Re: [LegacyUG] Online download of Legacy 7 Question: UPDATE
When I downloaded 7, I put it in a Legacy7 folder and kept Legacy 6 in the Legacy folder. I'm still using 6 til I become more confident that 7 will work for me. I don't think you can transfer a program using a flash drive, you can transfer a database file. I would love to be able to use my flash drive with the program on it. Good luck, Deb. RE: [LegacyUG] Online download of Legacy 7 Question: UPDATE
Deb, That is your best plan. It would be best if you check exactly what what you have on your PC first to see if you do have two versions in different folders (Use Windows search to search for Legacy.exe). You can find the version connected to your Desktop Icon by right clicking the Icon and then Properties then click Find Target. I would then look for the uninstall file in that folder and double click it to remove that version. If the Search locates another version I would uninstall that, as above. >From the Legacy website I would suggest that you download Legacy7 using the >"Save" option - saving to My Documents will be fine. Then double-click to >install. For your Laptop, if Legacy is installed then uninstall. Copy the >set-up file onto your Flash Drive and then copy into My Documents on your >Laptop - double-click to install. When both are running OK delete all the >set-up files (if you wish). If you delete the Legacy 5 from the Desktop all you are doing is deleting the Icon, nothing else. This is true of pretty well all programs, as very few will install to the Desktop. You main find that some programs use the Desktop as storage for a set-up file from which their program is installed onto your computer (Open Office is one example) but when the program has been installed even that can be deleted. Re: [LegacyUG] Online download of Legacy 7 Question: UPDATE
What exactly do you mean by "using a flashdrive to transfer my program"? Are you talking about your data file (such as Millemaci.fdb) or the folder with the actual program itself. If you RIGHT-click the shortcut on the desktop and then select properties, then the Shortcut tab, what does the box for Target say? Check the same thing on your laptop, then post the answers here. If you go to Control Panel_Add/Remove Programs, is there more than one entry for Legacy? Gary Templeman - Original Message - From: "Deborah K. However, You are correct version 7 does overwrite previous versions if it is installed in the same folder. Furthermore, if you have run version 7 then an earlier version will not be able to open your files. If you haven't over written your back-up you should be able to use File>File Restore to open in an earlier version. Oh, and why is it a problem? Ron Ferguson _
