I first tried the all meta package, and was also surprised that that

caused conflicts with an already installed lyx-qt or something

As others have pointed out, the locale you use must exist on the system.
(Except for C). On debian, which is similar to ubunt, we use:
  dpkg-reconfigure locales
This gets you a list of possible locales. Enable those you need.

Yep thanks I will do that.

It is actually quite easy to generate locales on ubuntu though it is different
from debian because dpkg-reconfigure locales does not work here anymore. The
command is simply:

sudo locale-gen de_DE

and german umlauts will work. With respect to the packages on ftp.lyx.org and
on the wiki it is best to install them with

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

But before, install lyx from the dapper repositories once to have all the
dependencies and thereafter remove the old version completely with

sudo apt-get remove --purge lyx lyx-qt lyx-common

Unfortunately, backports from edgy are not possible at the moment due to
build-dependendency issues.

   Hi everybody,

Since I upgraded to Ubuntu Feisty (7.04), whenever I input a special
character in math mode, I just get the name of the character, not the
 rendered character itself.

For example: to get an integral sign I switch to math mode, type \int

 by
a proper integral sign; now, all I get is a red int on the screen. A few
math characters, such as square roots, fractions, and (sub)indexes work
 correctly, tough.

Math characters appear correctly in the final LaTeXed document, mind
 you;
it's just LyX that has stopped rendering them in the UI window.

Is this a known bug? Any way to fix it? It's really annoying not to be
 able
to see my equations properly typeset as I write (one of my main reasons to
switch to LyX in the first place); I might as well be using plain LaTeX.

Hi there,

the package latex-xft-fonts is no longer a dependency of lyx in debian and
ubuntu. You have to install it. You could also use the inofficial 1.4.4 deb in
the download section of the wiki, where latex-xft-fonts is still a dependency.

Well, on my ubuntu feisty box all symbols work with the latex-xft-fonts
package. But I did a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig" some time ago, maybe
this helps?

Dependency on that package does not seem to be allowed according to debian
policies, so they removed it. I don't understand this either...

Ah, wait, have to correct myself. Just had a look and noticed that they put the
dependency in again in debian unstable. So it should be there in Ubuntu 7.10
then.

1.5.0rc1 crash when breaking last line of paragraph

2007-06-04 Thread ubuntuuser
LyX 1.5.0rc1 crashes when I try to break part of the last line (sometimes even
last 2 lines) of a paragraph into a new paragraph hitting Enter. This only
happens if another paragraph is following.

Can anyone confirm? I built LyX on Ubuntu 7.04. I attached a file that makes
reproduction easy.

The patch did not help, unfortunately. Seems to be something with Paragraph.cpp
rather than Text.cpp, but I am not a programmer. Forgot to include the console
output, hopefully this helps. After the crash it says:

pos: 21 size: 20
Assertion triggered in const lyx::Font lyx::Paragraph::getFontSettings(const
lyx::BufferParams&, lyx::pos_type) const by failing check "pos <= size()" in
file Paragraph.cpp:1273

Sorry, there were two patches available and I applied the one on Text.cpp which
did not help. Now I found the one on Bidi.cpp that solves the Problem. Could
have be a bit clearer in bugzilla. I will attach link to the patch to my
bugreport, too.

Thanks very much, that was the basis for further testing of 1.5.0 for me.

Re: background color or gray level of tabular cells/rows/columns

You seem to have formated the row as sans serif font including the ert. Remove
sans serif from the ert and it should work (that's at least how I reproduced it)
