VO on Nano: Can it Read the menus also?

2009-09-19 Thread Pete Nalda

I've got Vo on the new 5th gen nano working ok but it only reads
what's currently playing. In the prefs for this nano I have checked
Use VoiceOver and use system Speech. It won't let me check use menus
unless I turn the Use VoiceOver off. What am I doing wrong? I'd like
it to read both menus, and what's playing, and whatever else may be
possible. TIA.

I don't like Fring: Any other accessible skype clients for Iphone?

2009-09-19 Thread John J Herzog

Hi all,
I figured out why my Ipod touch is not going to sleep. Apparently,
when I turn Fring notifications on, it interferes with the devices
ability to remain sleeping. The down side of this, is that I do not
get sounds for incoming messages, calls, etc.
Are there any other accessible ways in which to use skype, AIM, etc.
on the Ipod?
Thanks,

RE: Using voice over during a call on iphone.

2009-09-19 Thread Donna Goodin

Hi Tony,

Once you get the voice volume adjusted, you only have to move the phone away
when you want to do something on the screen. The problem is that when the
phone is next to your face, the screen becomes inactive. If you think about
it, you'll se the logic here. If the screen were active while you were holding
the phone next to your face, you could end up launching all kinds of stuff
while you were on the call!
Cheers,
Donna

Thanks, that command worked to turn zoom off. I feel your

Re: question about "unread" in status column in mail

2009-09-19 Thread Christina

Thanks. I understand what you are saying about the preview pane and
messages being marked as "read". However, I'm still confused a little
about how to get voiceover to let me know if a message is read or
"unread. I do not have mouse cursor following the voiceover cursor.
However, voiceover continues to say "blank" and I know there is a
graphic or symbol that indicates the mail is unread. I know this
from sighted help and also zooming the voiceover cursor as large as I
can get it. I do not like to rely on my limitted vision though as it
is very time consuming and sometimes I still need sighted help and I
prefer to do it on my own. :) I hope what I'm saying makes sense. :)

Thanks for any help or thoughts,
Christina

Hello again,

If the preview pain is on, the message is marked as read when you move
focus over it. You can turn cursor tracking off and just move the vo
cursor over the message, then you will hear the status as unread.
There is also a way to turn off the preview pain, but I don't remember
off the top of my head where to click.

RE: Using voice over during a call on iphone.

Hi Tony,

Re using Vo while on a call:

1. Hold the phone away from you to activate speaker phone.
2. Two finger flick up to get VO speaking.
3. While VO is speaking, press the volume switch up untill you have the VO
voice volume where you want it.

You will then be able to press the keypad button to actifvate the keypad.

If you have the latest upgrade on your phone, VO will remember the volume, and
you will only have to do this once.

Using voice over during a call on iphone.

2009-09-19 Thread Tony Bernedal

Hi all.
I have looked around the webb but can't find answer to my ipone question.
I have used the iphone for a couple of days and so far no problem.
But a question. How do I activate voice over during a call? I red
somewhere that you can flick two fingers upwards to get v o speaking
but that didn't work.
I need v o during calls so I can navigate the phone keypad so I for
example can use tone controled systems.
Any Idea?
And when I'm at the keybord, does anyone know of a good skin or case
to use with the Iphone? I'm afraid dropping it so I want some skin or
case that makes it little more easy to hold.
But so far I like it.
Regards Tony

Re: sluggish composng of mail

2009-09-19 Thread Barry Hadder

hi,

You can toggle zoom with option-command-8.

I don't think that zoom is the problem as I have it off and I'm
experiencing the same problems of sluggishness that you are. It's not
just in mail, but in every situation that I'm editing. It's very
frustrating.

Re: Looking for an Easy-To-Use Commercial DVD Ripper for Snow Leopard

2009-09-19 Thread Matthew Campbell

Hey Mark.
Why don't you try a cool little open source program called handbreak.
Sorry I didn't give you a direct link but you could probably google
search it.
Only thing is that I'm not sure if it will let you select episodes
though but the worse you could do is give it a try.
HTH.

Hi May. It could be that the gmail section of your mailboxes table is
collapsed. Interact with the mailboxes table, and find the row that
says gmail. If it says it's collapsed, expand it with VO backslash.
I assume you're using imap with gmail? If so, check out this article
which should everything you need to know to get it set up properly.

Looking for an Easy-To-Use Commercial DVD Ripper for Snow Leopard

2009-09-19 Thread M. Taylor

Hello Everyone,

As the title suggests, I am looking for a all-in-one step commercial DVD
ripper for my Macbook Pro. In the best case scenario, I would launch the
program, insert the DVD, select what type of output such as .mp4, iPhone,
etc, select start, and that's it.

The application does not have to be free. I simply want a simple app and
not one in which I have to become a video editor.

Oh, as many of my DVDs contain television episodes, I need an app that will
allow me to manually select which episodes to rip.

I have such an app on my Windows computer but it is not Jaws accessible and
my PC is significantly slower than my Mac.

I would appreciate any help on this.

Thank you all in advance,

Mark

Requesting help with creating a new group in Address Book with SL

2009-09-19 Thread Brett Campbell

Hello,

I'm trying to create a new group in my address book for the first time
using Snow Leopard. I can't seem to figure it out. When I select
create new group, a group titled Unknown group appears in the groups
table. I have selected rename group from the edit menu, but nothing
seems to happen. I've hit enter and interacted with the Unknown
group, but I can't change the name like a file or folder.
In leopard, when creating a new group, a dialogue appeared with a edit
box for the name along with an OK button.
The funny thing is that It's now simple as can be to create a smart
group in the address book. The problem here is that the smart groups
aren't syncing to my iPhone with Mobile Me.
I'm hoping someone can give this a try and point me in the correct
direction

Thanks,

Brett

Hi,

I am using the handy Tech Braille Wave as a display under SL.

does anybody know if it is possible to transfer files to the Braille device

HT has a Linux (.rpm) version of their communication program available, but
i don't know how to run such packages under MacOSX. So, any feedback would
be greatly appreciated.
