Re: Deleting an event in Calendar
Hi, Two ways I use when in Month view: First method: * Navigate to the day of the event. * Interact with the Day. * Navigate to the specific event. * Press VO-cmd-f5 to bring the mouse to the VO-cursor. * Press and hold the ctrl key down then click the Trackpad. . This brings up the Contextual menu where the "Delete" option is. For whatever reason, there appear to be apps like Calendar where VO-shift-m does not work to bring up a Contextual menu but one does actually exist when you use the sighted person's method. Second method: * Follow the same steps as above using VO navigation to get to the event. * Once you've landed on the event, go up to the Edit menu and choose Delete. HTH. Later... The method I use in all word processors is to type a few *** and then simply use the inbuilt find command to jump to each of these. If necessaries you could type ***1 ***2 etc to number bookmarks. In my experience this is much quicker and easier to do than most inbuilt bookmarking functions in any word processor. Re: Downloading entire TV seasons/series in iTunes
Hi, I don't believe that it is possible on the iPhone, but I could be corrected on that. On the Mac, you either choose to download the entire season when you first purchase it, the first episode, or to leave them in the Cloud for future download. If you wish to download the entire season at once after the fact, as long as you've checked the box for "Show iTunes Purchases in the Cloud" from within the Store pane of iTunes, this is relatively painless. With that option checked, go into your TV Shows list, highlight the season you wish downloaded by holding down your shift key while arrowing through the list of episodes in the season. Once they've all been highlighted, press VO-shift-m to bring up the Contextual menu and choose Download from there. Note that you must be Interacting with the TV Shows list in order to properly do the multiple selection. HTH. Later... Re: Problem solved, Re: Viewing a season of Purchased TV shows in iTunes
Hi Donna, To have items you've already purchased but haven't yet downloaded show up in your Library, go into iTunes Preferences, in the Store pane and check the box for "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases". When this box is checked, all items you've purchased, except for those you've chose to hide, are available to either strew or download. Right beside the title for the episode, there will be a column which will read "Download" or "Local". Local means that the item has already been downloaded and "Download" means that it will be downloaded if you press that button. So, if you prefer to not use up local disk space, you have a good Internet connection for streaming, and you don't have a data quota to worry about, you can simply watch the episode without actually downloading it. Hi Tim, When I am looking at shows that are already downloaded and in my library, things work exactly as you describe. Re: Sending Messages in iOS 8.0.2
Yes, the same thing happens if you have a text message that you have to send to activate an app. An example of this is the Verizon account verification for NFL Mobile. I had trouble tapping the send button once voiceover was turned off, so I actually double-tapped and held with one hand, turned off voiceover, and tapped the button. Re: Problem solved, Re: Viewing a season of Purchased TV shows in iTunes
Hi, If you put your TV Shows in List view, there is usually a Season number column and an episode number column. So, if you were looking for The Big Bang Theory, Season 4, you could bring focus to the TV Shows table, don't Interact with it, then type the word "Big". This will take you to the first item in that list with the word big in the Show title. The usual sort for TV Shows is alphabetically by Show title and then it will sort them by Season and Episode number automatically within the actual show. If you happen to have the three previous seasons, you'd have to go through the list until you got to Season four before being able to focus on Episode 1 of Season 4 to start there. HTH. Later... Accessibility of Canvas E-Learning Platform
Hello everyone, I hope to soon be taking some graduate level courses from a US-based university. They told me that their e-learning platform was canvas. Can anyone tell me how accessible Canvas is with Safari and the Mac? Would I be better served if I used Chrome or Internet Explorer in a Windows environment? My preference would be Safari on the Mac, unless there is a special Canvas program for the Mac. Finally, are there accessible Canvas apps for the iPhone or iPad? Kindest regards to all and many thanks, Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. yep. I forgot about the "a" option there. still, if the folder is not there, then its likely you are not infected. still, as a placeholder that has no write perms, that would definitely work to keep the worm off. now all we need is a bird to catch the worm. :) -eric On Oct 6, 2014, at 7:02 AM, 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries wrote: > Close, spaces in terminal commands imply separate commands unless you tell it > that you really meant a space by putting a backslash "\" in front. Close, spaces in terminal commands imply separate commands unless you tell it that you really meant a space by putting a backslash "\" in front. So the test would be: ls -a /Library/Application\ Support/JavaW The -l also isn't needed. The L means to display the listing in long format so it shows the date, number of bytes etc. Since we're just checking for presence of the folder we don't really care about formatting of the list. Re: Problem solved, Re: Viewing a season of Purchased TV shows in iTunes
Sure! :) And it is, at least to my thinking kind of unintuitive. You have the option to select the Seasons tab, which would seem like the logical thing to do. The problem is that when you interact with the group, all you see are the season number and an image. Note, there's also an unlabeled button, don't click it, it will hide the season. Instead of selecting the Season Tab, select the Episodes tab. You will then have off to the right an alphabetical list of available episodes. this is pretty unhelpful, unless you have all the season titles memorized in the correct order. However, one of the columns in that table gives the season number. Click on that, and you will be taken to a list of the season's episode, in order, with a brief description and option to download. I have no problem sending messages from iMessages in 8.0.2, and am running it on an iPad 2 32G. My problem is that I cannot seem to prevent VoiceOver from announcing every character I type, not just the words, as I have it set in settings/accessibility/VoiceOver/keyboards/software ... They open fine from the Open file selection in Text edit or Safari, but Spotlight is not finding them. I checked my Spotlight preferences and all categories are checked. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. I agree with everything you said, Kevin. I'll be curious to see if I still have some of these issues when I get my 6 in a month or so. It works but it's buggy on my 5s and iPads. Irritating pause when clicking back to the home screen during which you can do nothing. Then, all your gestures get executed in a rush. Re: Erasing The BootCamp Disk and Restoring The Macintosh HD To A Single Disk
Hello, Hmm. I would if I could. I forgot to mention in the post that oqtion is not available. When I open the BootCamp Assistant, I make sure that the first 2 checkboxes are unchecked, but the checkbox to install or remove Windows 7 or higher is dimmed. So, now I'm left with no alternative. I receive an alert that I can't partition the start disk to install nor can I remove Windows to make the OS a single partition. So, that's the rest of the story and I have no option (I think) to get rid of the BootCamp partition and place that amount of specified storage back into the main Macintosh startup HD. If others have some suggestions on how to resolve this, send them my way. Thanks. Equalizer for the mac.
Hi! This might be a dum or odd question but is there an equalizer for the mac that can increase the trebble of the system sound? I know there's an equalizer in Itunes but i want one for the whole system including the voiceover voices. I have a small hearing loss and to be honest its sometimes hard to hear the speech. I could ofcourse lower the speed and getting rid of the voices i have and use something else but i must say i do like the vocalizer synths because they're so responsive. And they can be used on a very high speed level. /A -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. iphone tip: accessing home network files
Hi all, Thought I'd share this with the listers, as it is a very handy app, giving a solution to a problem many of us like to do from time to time. Often, you may want to access audio files using your phone, stored on a computer in my home. As long as you are inside the house, i.e. on your own lan with the iphone, the following app is excellent. Name is: file browser, by Stratospherics if I remember well. This app gives you instructions on its own website, on how to make files available to the phone, stored on home computers. Then, from the app, you can connect to the computer, browse it, and either download or stream whatever audio you want. The app lets you connect to local network shares, so if you have a windows machine with stuff that you'd like to listen to on your phone while you are at home, then follow the instructions on the website to first make the files available to the lan on the computer in question, and then simply connect and listen with file browser. Same goes if you have a mac with files you want to listen to or download on your phone. But that's not all. The file browser IOS app also has support to let you access a time capsule, so if you have audio, video, text or whatever stored there and you want to listen, view or download that into your phone, you can. A time capsule is neither a mac nor a windows pc, but file browser has support for it, so you can access its stuff just as easily as another network share. So much for internal files on your lan. Also, if there is an ftp server out on the net that you have access to, you can download files from it, and then listen, view etc locally. I used to use an app called ftp pro to access ftp servers and get stuff from them to listen to on my phone, but file browser now does that as well. Even better. If you have dropbox on your phone, file browser has access if you give it. So what I do from time to time, is move stuff from dropbox over to the local machine in my house, disk and folder, where I'd like to store it, to free up space in my dropbox when I need it. Of course you can do these things from your computer, but having the ability to do it from the phone is sometimes handy. As a side note, there is also an IOS app out there for a few dollars, called winzip. That thing can also take stuff from dropbox, and then zip it up and store it back in dropbox. Handy if you have a folder somewhere, that you want to zip and then share to someone using dropbox. I then first use file browser to put the folder into dropbox, from whatever local network share it happens to sit in, and once up in dropbox, I zip it up with winzip, and then use the dropbox app to share the single zip file. I wish file browser could zip as well, but as far as I've seen, it can't for now. Of course, first uploading an entire folder to dropbox takes time and bandwidth. Then, using the IOS winzip app, you are in fact re downloading that folder to the phone, zipping it there, and then re uploading the zip. It is somewhat tedious, but at least it can now be done from our phones. This is especially useful if you have a vpn server running inside your home. There are numerous ways to do that. If you run a vpn server at home on one of your machines, then you can connect to it from outside while you are about somewhere, and to your phone, it will then look as if it is simply part of your local home lan, while in fact you are out and about. So once that vpn connection is up, you can even get to stuff on all your machines from outside on the net. If you have stuff on a drive at home, and you want to put that into your dropbox while you only have your phone at hand, this is one solution. To give you an idea about the app, here's an explanation. Say you want to copy files from a local computer into dropbox. When you open file browser, you get to choose where you want to connect to. This can be a local windows or mac machine, a time capsule, dropbox or an ftp server somewhere. For this example, we choose to connect to our local computer Once connected, you will see your files stored there, and you then can hit a select button at the top of the screen, and then tap the files and folders you want to copy. Next, you tap the file browser toolbar, where you'll find a few buttons: copy, delete etc. Once you hit copy, you return to the file browser start screen, select a new location to connect to, dropbox in our example here, move into the folder where you want to paste, and then hit paste on the toolbar in file browser. The files will then be copied or moved etc. To clarify on how to select, copy and paste: once you are seeing the local folder name you want to copy, you first hit select, then you tap the folder in question, and now that this folder is selected, you hit copy. Then you move into your destination folder, wherever that is, and then you hit paste there. The copy and paste buttons are both in file browser's toolbar
Re: Any free ways to fill out pdf forms
Thank you for letting me know this. I might have asked them to purchase it for me, and then it would not have worked. I did ask them for a form in a different format so that I could fill in the boxes independently. The response was that I could fill it out on paper and send it in, and that they would make an exception. I pointed out that on-line access is not difficult to accommodate, and that of course, someone could simply fill it in for me, as they would have to do on paper. I pointed out that since the rest of the site was accessible to me, there was no reason why the features which require me to share information as my colleagues did should not also be. I have yet to hear back. Meanwhile, a stopgap solution was to fill it out on my son's PC, where I was able to download it, fill it out, then submit it on the site through Adobe's documents center, which is absolutely not ideal. Could someone please explain to me why it works fine on the PC? (The layout is a little hinky, it's unwieldy, but it works.) Re: Keyboard focus in Amadeus Pro
Hi Agent 6b, I learned the solution from a podcast by Eric Caron, long ago. If the scroll area in Amadeus pro looses focus, which becomes apparent when you notice that the arrow keys left and right no longer rewind and skip, then do the following: 1. Stop interacting as far as you can, until tvo dings at you. 2. Now find the scroll area using VO left and right. Donot click, just move over to it. 3. Now, click here with the mouse and focus is back. To click: a: Hit VO plus command plus f5. This routes the mouse cursor to the spot where the VO cursor is. You just went over to the scroll area, so the mouse pointer will be routed there. b: Perform the click with VO shift space. After that, you will find that the arrow keys etc will work as expected, and focus is back to the scroll area. Hth, Paul.
