MI - Round doesn't work in Create Ranges (MB5)
Hi - In Map Basic I can't make the Round statement work in Create Ranges for any values less than 1. ie Round 0.1 doesn't, it defaults to 1. Is this a bug - I am using MB 5.0.18 or 19 from memory. Sorry if this has been addressed - I have been off the list for a year. MI Mapinfo resources availabale
Greetings, We've finally moved the Spatial Graphics Mapinfo resources pages to the GeoCommunity website under the "Software" heading. The new location is http://software.geocomm.com/utilities/mapinfo/index.html Here you'll find descriptions and pointers to numerous Mapinfo resources, websites, free utilities, MapX examples, Vertical Mapper resources and examples, and more. Hopefully you'll find this a useful MI resource to add to your bookmarks. If you have something that is an obvious omission from this page please let me know and I'll make any appropriate additions. MI ODBC Error
Hi Mappers: Does anyone else get this error with ODBC? "ODBC Error: ODBC RC=-1, ODBC SQLState=S1000, DBMS RC=0, DBMS Msg=[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Connection is busy with results from another hstmt." It seems to happen whenever I first open up a table, and also when I try to do a refresh. I am using SQL Server 6.5 and MapInfo 5.5. Thanks a bunch! re: MI GeoObjects 2?
Richard, We sincerely apologize about the delay in getting back to you regarding web sites that are using GeoObjects. I know it's a poor excuse, but we've been absolutely swamped with our GeoObjects Competitive Upgrade offer, having upgraded several hundred MapObjects and MapX developers in the last few weeks. As we informed you of earlier, our GeoObjects Internet Map Server product simply doesn't exist yet. Information isn't available on our website at this point, we'll let you know when detailed information and pricing is available. We are in fact compiling a list of sites that are using the component as we move towards the formal launch of our GeoObjects Internet Map Server product. We've always found it hard to promote a product until it actually ships. Things are just easier for both our users and us that way. We're happy to hear that GeoObjects meets the task for you. Of course, our documentation is targeted towards developers as they are ultimately the users of the product. Please get me a list of issues with the Getting Started Guide documentation, we'll incorporate them into the next release. We strive to make it better daily. If you haven't noticed, the GeoObjects Getting Started Guide is patterned after the ESRI MapObjects Getting Started Guide demo and documentation, focused primarily on upgrading MO developers to the Blue Marble GeoObjects component. The documentation was quite simplified as the underlying product is quite a bit simplier to use. Richard, I know this is a long post but I have a quick story for you that may be somewhat relevant. While I was in college I frequented a shop that made canoe paddles and oars (Shaw and Tenney in Old Town, Maine) . I got to know the Mr. Tenney (the "master" maker) very well. They made "firsts" which were perfect, and "seconds" which were slightly imperfect. The company name only went on the firsts, never the seconds. I asked Mr. Tenney why he never put his company name on a "second". He explained to me that someone seeing the paddle lying about in a canoe would never know it wasn't a first and would assume that it was his best effort. Blue Marble will put it's name on its internet map server solution as soon as it's available (as a "first") and do it's best to tell the world about it. I need some MB code that will make a lot of maps one right after the other with the same legend. I am a MB novice, I got something (sort of) but its not pretty and most of all its not really doing the job, And I have a deadline Does anyone have code I could use? (OK, I am in a way asking you to do this for me ... but if you have already done it..! ) I have counties of WA state. They are joined to a file with disease rates. county 1 ... 39 for each county disease rates a b c d e f ... I want to produce maps in png format (to make a www page) one after the other 1a.png 1b.png 1c.png 2a.png 2b.png 2c.png ... ... 39a.png 39b.png 39c.png ... With the same legend (manually set intervals, same color scheme) Any help, code, ideas (or volunteers) would really be useful. I think I know enough to augment someone else's code. Richard E. Re: MI automatically populate a column with Lat/Long values?
Greetings Mats.E Agreed - Dynamic is good and although I sing MapInfo praises, there are a few tools that don't come in the standard user interface. The design challenge for the GeoBasemap mapping system was to deliver value in a generic product. Fortunately we have had a pretty good user experience with this module, perhaps in part because we stress the need to update columns after editing in both the user doc and training. But more likely the uses of our Mapping System (and most subscribers to MapInfo-L) are a little above your "average" MapInfo users. When I design an app from scratch, I specify locations in lat/long, store attributes in a relational database and add some nice VB or Microsoft Access database edit screens, hot-linked to the MapInfo via Mapinker. And sometimes we build the Blue Marble co-ordinatate conversion dll into the database forms. But that require custom development that comes at a price. We are trying to bring down the cost of custom development with our Images+/MapLinker suite but I suspect the market is segemnted - The "applicaiton user" (who needs a nicely tailored custom interface), the advanced GIS consultant (who appreciates our Mapping System) and the more advanced GIS applicaiton builders (who could leverage off our MapLinker product but might not appreicate the simplicity of our Mapping System product). Yes, Mats, I agree with your comments. Dynamic is good. And it is always a challenge to deliver just the right level of technology for each situation and each end user. .
