This year I'm going to see if I can do enough corporate travel to pay for a new TV off the points on my cc. I sometimes carry a small balance on my card from December into January but other than that I pay it off every month. I'm eligable for $200 in Amazon gift cards right now... However, you have much less protection when you use a debit card than when you use a credit card. This topic came up on the local news just the other day. Credit cards have more fraud protection than debit cards. Most likely, if someone somehow steals your card or gets the number and drains your account, you'll have to pay for it. According to the report, it's just the opposite with a credit card due to the level of protection offered. Also, fringe benefits such as free or cheaper extended warranties and buyer's protection insurance only come with a credit card.
