Re: [mk2-16v] Idle evens out once warm. Motronic

2015-04-14 Thread Chad Rebuck
You can try a local vw dealer for the connector parts (or
http://www.germanautoparts.com/ - that is who I use most of the time for vw
stuff). Also, the metal contacts can be removed from the connector if you
release them properly. Ifyou are able to remove them to squeeze them
tighter or replace with new metal contacts you won't need to find the exact
3 wire dpr connector.

For your alternator issue - maybe the voltage regulator needs to be
replaced?

Ok so I think my problem lies in the connection at the dpr. I wiggled the

is I can't find the part number for the connector. The website link I
posted earlier is for the fuel injector.
I'm also having a problem with my alternator not charging until I rev past
4000 rpm. I was driving and the exciter wire on my alternator ripped from
the connector. I crimped a new terminal but it won't charge until I rev.
Which is really bad because I go to work in the early morning when it's
 cold.
I really appreciate the help guys.

Re: [mk2-16v] Idle evens out once warm. Motronic

2015-04-14 Thread Holland Phillips
That's what I used to do. At some point, I acquired an assortment of the
various types of individual contacts for the electrical connectors on my
'92. I had the proper extraction tools for the various types as well. The
connectors which VW used on the Mk1 2 cars were really problematic. With
the advent of OBD in the US, they had to improve all that.
As far as your charging issue goes, Chad may have hit your problem. The
voltage regulator is mounted on the rear of alternator, and has a set of
brushes which ride against a commutator, much as in a electric motor. Those
brushes wear over time, causing problems. You may still be able to purchase
a relacement regulator at the local auto parts store.

I wiggled the connector again while warming up and nothing. Still idled rough
at 800 rpm then shot to 1000 rpm then drove and idled fine.
The voltage regulator was replaced less than two months ago.

Re: [mk2-16v] Idle evens out once warm. Motronic

2015-04-14 Thread Holland Phillips
It's possible that the connection to the DPR has finally degraded to the
point where wiggling it no longer affects its operation.
At one point when I was having charging issues, I ended up swapping the
regulator for a new one which didn't solve the problem, so I swapped it
again for a old spare I had, which fixed the problem.
