Re: [MOPO] Gilda dress

2011-07-10 Thread David Kusumoto

As a big-time Rita nut - another mis-understood and oft-over-looked tidbit
about that shiny dress - is that at least one was dark emerald green in color -
and not black - with greater reflective properties for black-and-white
film-stock. Color publicity photos distributed in '46 show the dress being
roughly the same color as how it appears on the window card poster.

Another, additional, "fun fact:"
To be able to wear the dress, Hayworth had to wear a corset, because just a few
months before she had given birth to her daughter, Rebecca, and had not yet
regained her pre-pregnancy figure. In addition to the dress, Jean Louis made a
harness, worn under the dress. The harness consisted of rigging - one under the
breast, one in the middle and one on the side. In addition, the soft plastic
had been molded around the top of the skirt.

had the label "property of Columbia Pictures" and "Rita Hayworth" sewn
inside.[5] The initial price was estimated between $30,000 and $50,000, but the
lot was withdrawn before it reached the auction.[6][5] Later, in September

Dear Bruce Because of the kind of dress that it was, Rita literally had to be
taped into it every day before shooting started. It was that tight. It is a
virtual certainty that it fell apart and was not saved. Unless a spare one was
made, just in case, and not used. But it was such an expensive dress that I
really doubt that. Walter
