Alan,

I'm attaching the two master files used for the following (also ran
cross refs between
each vol.):

Hello,

I have a book project that is being cut into two volumes (because it
is
too long and will be sold as a boxed set).

Each volume is presently a separate *product* in the project
structure.
I presently set the counters in the second volume using:

\setupheadnumber
  [part] [2]

\setupheadnumber
  [chapter] [5]

(I have multiple [5] parts in the project, and the first volume ends
with part 2 and chapter 5.)

1) Is this the right way to be handling this?

2) Any suggestions on how I can put a Table of Contents for the first
volume in the second volume?

Thanks!

Alan

Shared to the list, without the attached files. Based on the command:

\useexternaldocument
https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/useexternaldocument

I'll make a solution Wiki page on the garden once I learn how this
works.

[NTG-context] Fwd: Re: LMTX 2021.03.02 | cross reference to an external file | \pagereference

2021-03-04 Thread Richard Mahoney
Wolfgang [and Hans ],

I'm attaching a minimal(ish) example of a project structure with
a call to \pagereference. One can see from the output of master000.tex
that the cross references to an external file all work, *apart* from
the call to \pagereference. (This is the same issue that I am having
with
my two volume proceedings.)

I'd be grateful for suggestions.

Thanks Wolfgang,

Hans kindly sent me a simple minimal. I've adjusted it to include a
call
to \pagereference and it works. I'm currently trying to test my
project
to see why my own calls to \pagereference do not result in any output,
despite the fact that all the calls to the reference ids in chapters
work
as expected. I'm imagining at this point that it has something to do
with
using two master files --one for each volume-- with multiple includes
(\components) for each chapter -- the \pagereference code appears
in a number of the components.

I'll try to set up a simple example replicating the file structure I'm
using
and then send it through.

Best, Richard

Hi Richard,

I just tested \pagereference in a simple example and had no problem
to
get

the page numbers from the other document. Without a minimal example

there is no way to tell what's missing in your document.

Yes this is not bullet proofed but I need it for internal usage. I think
we'll have many okular users.

In the beginning, you could even start programs with program(...), but Adobe
recognized soon this might be a security problem.

Nowadays, the “best” behaviour is when the viewer asks you if you really want
to open such a link but then hands control to the OS.

Last time I checked, Adobe Reader even let you open hidden files from arbitrary
paths.

Several other viewers just do nothing.

What do you mean "work" and "not work"?

Do you what to open a file by clicking on text in viewer? What application
should be used to open a file? Take a look on page I linked in previous
message.

> The PDF Viewer does not support the file type.

What "PDF Viewer"?

For example, I use different viewers: mupdf, zathura-pdf-mupdf (zathura with
mupdf pdf backend), okular, pdf-tools (emacs major mode). Some of application
(okular, for example) could preview many file types (ps, pdf, odt), while
other can't do that. It is up to application what to do (or actually, PDF
backend) on link.

Please see the page about '\goto' command, it was written for a reason!

This works:

This does not work:

Hello Hans,

I read your post today ;-|

In the past, that is in the pdfTeX time, I used this feature as follows:

\useexternaldocument[Taptones][c_tap-tones.pdf][Chapter about using tap-tones]

\starttext

This is a test to jump to another file
\goto{Jump to tap-tones}[Taptones::]

\stoptext

I tested it with a recent version of MKIV and it works.

I hope this can help you setup your project successfully.

not so much a bug but the current mechanism assumes a project/component
struture

Hi,
I'm also struggeling with cross-referencing in a project/component
layout. I attached a minimal example that resembles the layout I use.

If you compile xr-prod1 and xr-prod2 all cross-references are simply empty.

I looked at the lua code to see if I'm able to fix it myself and
stumbled over the 'identify_inner(set,var,prefix,collected,derived)'
function in strc-ref.lua (at around line 1396 in MKVI from 2015.09.04
11:00). It look like identify_inner gets sometimes called with 'prefix'
set to nil while 'derived' is also undefined (at 1493 and 1514). If I
get the program flow right this looks suspicious, as it always retuns
'false' from 'identify_inner'. If I add 'prefix = prefix or ""' to
'identify_inner' I actually get references printed in the test case.
However the links are not working and for the figure the section number
is wrong.

Finally looking at the uncompressed PDF I can see that references are
set not prefixed in xr-prod2.pdf (i.e. link to 'plain'), but are
prefixed in xr-prod1.pdf (anchor is 'xr-comp1-1:plain').

Maybe these informations can help in resolving the issue. :)

i'll see if i can catch the non structured variant

When you produce a PDF from the attached documents you can use the
hyperlinks to jump to the chapter page in the other document but no
information is printed because the information with the section number,
page number or title isn’t loaded (can be seen in the tracker
information in the log).

Re: [NTG-context] cross-references between documents in a project (using \useexternaldocument)

2015-08-11 Thread tala...@fastmail.fm
Sorry for not being clear. The original question was whether cross-referencing
in a project can only be done between components, or if they can also be done
between products. I could never get the latter to work.

Wolfgang confirmed that in MkII, intra-product cross-referencing works (even
with the examples I had posted),but not in MkIV. He speculated that the numbers
in the references were not appearing in MkIV due to a bug, or because the
feature was not implemented.

Best wishes,
Talal

Perhaps I might ask a more preliminary question: when using project
structure, is cross-document referencing possible between two product files,
or only between two component files within a single product file?
You can create hyperlinks between different products and your example (I
slightly modified it) works as expected with MkII where I get the chapter
 number in the links.

The missing numbers with MkIV can be a bug or not yet implemented.

[NTG-context] Broken (invisible) external cross-references

2014-12-05 Thread Jean-Philippe Rey
Hello,

I am using external cross-references (across multiple files) and this seems to
have been broken for a few months.

Here is my minimal example:

% file test_crossref1.tex
\starttext
\chapter[lorem]{Lorem}
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit \in{Chapter}[lorem].
\stoptext

% file test_crossref2.tex
\useexternaldocument[xref][test_crossref1]
\starttext
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit
\in{Chapter}[xref::lorem].
\stoptext

I get the correct reference Chapter 1. in test_crossref2 with a ConTeXt
version from March:

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.78.2 (TeX Live 2014/dev) (rev 4746)
ConTeXt ver: 2014.03.22 15:31 MKIV beta fmt: 2014.3.22 int: english/english

With more recent versions (including the last one downloaded this morning), the
chapter number doesn't appear in test_crossref2, I only get Chapter ., not
even ??. There isn't any error message in the log file. The internal cross
reference (in test_crossref1) still works fine. I have the same faulty result
with these three versions:

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.79.1 (TeX Live 2014/dev) (rev 4972)
ConTeXt ver: 2014.07.30 10:31 MKIV beta fmt: 2014.8.9 int: english/english

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.79.1 (TeX Live 2014/dev) (rev 4972)
ConTeXt ver: 2014.09.06 20:59 MKIV beta fmt: 2014.9.11 int: english/english

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.79.1 (TeX Live 2014/dev) (rev 4972)
ConTeXt ver: 2014.12.05 11:11 MKIV beta fmt: 2014.12.5 int: english/english

Is this a bug or did something change in the way to build references from
external files.

Thanks,

[NTG-context] Cross-document referencing problem!

2012-04-05 Thread Verhaag, G.C.H.M.

Hi ConTeXt User's,

Again I'm struggling with cross-document referencing! The page of the
\pagereference[def] command is shown correctly in the pdf result of the
attached test.tex file using \at{page}[def]!

However when I refer to this reference using \at{page}[tst::def] from
the external document crossref.pdf only the 'page' string is displayed
in it, but no sign of the page number. Clicking the page string brings
me to the correct location, but I'm missing the pagenumber itself?

Both tex-files (minimal example!) files are attached!

Regards,
Gerard Verhaag

P.S. Currently I use ConTeXt ver: 2012.02.18 10:50 MKIV fmt:
2012.2.18 int: english/english together with Acrobat Reader 9.4.2 on
Linux box.

the most simple way is:

\goto{Some Other Document}[someotherfile::]

otherwise go the \useexternaldocument route with symbolic names and such

Nobody else has reported this problem, does that mean that this feature

 Hi,

After going through the suggested reading This Way, sep 2011
(http://pragma-ade.com/show-mag-15.htm) in relation to this topic it was time
 to do some tests!

Well, I stumbled on the very first basic problem! Using the
\useexternalfile[logical_name][filename] resulted in an Undefined control
 sequence ... error message!?

Anybody any suggestions about the syntax of this command?! The description in
the reference part of the ConTeXt Garden wiki site is not of much help to me
 either, sorry!

I think this is a typo in the manual and Hans meant the \useexternaldocument
command because \useexternalfile was removed from MkIV and had a different
purpose.

[NTG-context] \useexternaldocument

Hi all,

How can I open a PDF file from within a presentation?
For example, assuming that the file intermezzo.pdf is present in the same
directory, I thought I could say this

\starttext
\useexternaldocument[intermezzo.pdf]
As one may see in the example \from[intermezzo.pdf]
\stoptext

But this does not work as I would expect.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: [NTG-context] goto and open file

2007-06-19 Thread Alan Bowen
Jean—

Many thanks for the tip. It turns out that the PDF viewer that comes
with TeXShop is the partly responsible for the problem. The other
part of the problem is with the relative pathnames—which is a
limitation if the aim is to put the PDF files produced on someone
else’s server.

The solution was to use an alias of the target PDF file (symlink?) in
the same Folder (directory) as the .tex source file in which the link
is established and to use another PDF reader.

Many thanks.

you can use this:

This example is from the beginner's manual, page 86.

Most tourist attractions are described in \from[hia]. A description
of the Eui||feest is found in \from[hia::euifeest]. A description of
the \goto{Eui||feest}[hia::euifeest] is found in \from[hia]. The
 eui||feest is described on \at{page}[hia::euifeest] in \from[hia].
See for more information \in{chapter}[hia::euifeest] in \from[hia].

automatically in Excel?
