Re: PESO: Abandoned - Final Take
Thanks to all for the help with this image. I think this final rendering (see link below) is about as good as I'm going to get. Basically I've nudged the mid tones a bit and then desaturated both RGB and red slightly. This also has the effect of lessening the intense orange colour. I've also had another go at the B&W conversion with a less contrasty rendering. Anyway, here's the link to all five variations. http://members.westnet.com.au/brianwal/Abandoned/ Cheers Brian ++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://members.westnet.com.au/brianwal/SL/ -- Find out how you can get spam free email. http://www.bluebottle.com/tag/3 -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: For those who miss CaNikon's Wifi capabilities
I've seen wireless in use at fashion shoots. Generally, the photographer doesn't let the model see the result. However, when a discussion of the results seems to be productive, the monitor is turned. I've done the same thing with the Pentax assistant. But as you point out, constant feedback can be a distraction. I've also seen wireless used at studio car shoots. The cars don't seem to care about the results:-). But the agency art directors like to see what's going on. We've had the same kind of feedback on television shoots for many years, via a video tap on the camera. But actors never get to see it. Unless, as I said, there is a situation where it might prove fruitful. Sheesh. I don't know what more can be said, WR. Sorry I said it. "Discussion" doesn't seem to get there with this group, everyone just natters on with their opinion and a closed mind. I described the working methodology that was shown, explained how he used the wireless capture and how it affected his work and sometimes the subject interaction. No one has asked any questions about the demonstration or technique, just opined that they didn't think it would work. I give up. I didn't make a recording of the session, WR. Several folks stepped up to have their portraits done. The wireless interaction was very useful, and it also allowed immediate display of the capture on a large projection screen so the rest of the session participants could see what was going on. Re: AF540FGZ - hallelujah!
I really liked my AF500FTZ, especially on the PZ-1p. Unfortunately it isn't a lot of use on the K10D (although it works as well as anything else on the *ist D), so I got a 540. I haven't used it much, partly because I was without it for a couple of months; on one of the rare occasions I did use it I got a couple of exposures, followed by a loud crackle-pop. At least it was still under warranty, so Pentax fixed it for me. But on the occasions where I did use it, it just plain worked. Just scored a used AF540FGZ from Craigslist (only $200?!?!) and I've just finished putting it through the 'test paces' here at the house. In a word - excellent. Everything that I've wished I could do with the Sigma EF500DG Super just plain worked. Bounce? Proper exposure. Straight ahead? Proper exposure. Manual lens set to a weird F-stop? Proper exposure. That's something I don't understand. How hard is it really to set up a simple HTML template and do a little find and replace with a good text editor? Somehow the simplest web gallery requires a complex tool, that creates complex unnecessary code. Re: HELP: I Lost Adobe Gamma
OK, more stuff done.I installed the PrintFix software that was on the second disk. It allows you to set profiles based on the printer/paper combo's and them make and adjust prints until you get the output to match the screen, supposedly. I played with that for about an hour until I got what I feel will be usable. At least now I can adjust a file to look "right" and it prints very close to that. However, it still isn' what I used to get before the old monitor took the jolt! I am turning off all printer stuff, other than setting the paper profiles, then telling the printer to let photoshop/lightroom run the show. One biggie that I really like in lightroom. Once I get a good print, I don't have to save, etc.Just leave it be, and the next time I open it, it will be setup just like before. Thanks for all the help folks! Re: Wifi (and Other Desired Capabilities)
Yup. Some or all of the capabilities on this list would be of great use to astrophotographers, night scene photographers, nature/wildlife photographers, hazardous conditions photographers, crime surveillance photographers, certain industrial photographers and perhaps many others. I think it could put the K10D (or some future, maybe, someday, after my funeral, K1D) into a variety of markets now dominated by other brands by being more versatile or even safer to use in those markets. --- "I don't mind if you don't like my manners. Ok, well, if that is the case (we'll assume) then I can see how that WOULD save time as long as the card itself was sufficiently fast. My impression was that it wasn't on the fly, that you'd have to stop to upload...and I didn't see an advantage there. I stand corrected! -Brendan __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! BTW, for HTML gallery output you can remove the 'medium' and 'small' JPEG image renderings entirely before uploading them to a server, they're only used by the flash gallery formats. I find the HTML output a little more complex than I'd prefer as well, but it's fairly easy to understand and work with once you study it a little bit. The js and css files are pretty clear and not too complicated. I post-process all JPEG exports from Lightroom intended for the web with a quick Photoshop script that does a set, small USM adjustment. Lightroom does not provide any output sharpening other than the relatively simplistic sharpening function in the Print module. This is something I expect in the future, many have told me they've requested it as a feature add. Re: For those who miss CaNikon's Wifi capabilities
Actually, it seemed as though you were knocking the technology because YOU don't perceive any use for it considering how you use YOUR camera. After all your first dig at the device was, and I quote, "I just don't get it. What's so tough about hooking a camera to the computer via a cable?" There's nothing in there about "saves time." Frankly, it doesn't have to save time if it provides convenience. You're like my dog. He can't find any use for my hammer either. --- "I don't mind if you don't like my manners. Re: For those who miss CaNikon's Wifi capabilities
Nothing. On the other hand, the distance between the camera and the computer is limited by the length of the cable, and the length of the cable is limited by the USB specifications. Further, people trip over cables, possibly knocking your camera and/or computer to the (hard?) ground. --- "I don't mind if you don't like my manners. I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad.
