No. The D-FA 50mm Macro is 1:1 AFAIK so it is NOT the same optic as FA
Macro 50mm.

Good news. It tells me that Pentax is at least thinking in terms of

Or they just borrowed the FA optics and repackaged them into the more compact
plastic bodies?

FA 50 f 2.8 macro is also 1:1.Both FA and D-FA have 8 elements in 7
groups, but this doesn't mean they're identical. There may be different
sorts of optical glass used, for example.
Optical formulas of 100mm macros are also the same (9 elements in 8 groups).
Well, seems that I have to borrow both versions and make a real-life
test someday.

Alright, my bad.
So yes, I think a real test is obviously needed...

D-FA Macros

2004-12-17 Thread Margus Männik
Hi there,
I checked our Pentax dealer pricelist today and noticed both 50mm and
100mm new macro lenses available. I am interested in 100mm macro and
surprisingly the new version is 80 euros cheaper than FA I 've decided
to get before. Does anyone have an experience with D-FA 100/2.8? Or
maybe someone have got even more lucky and compared FA with D-FA ???

BR, Margus
P.S. Interestingly, price for 50mm D-FA is about 50 euros higher than
price for FA version.
I really do not understand Pentax marketing...

They have just hit the stores. They are full-frame lenses. They replace the FA,
and may be better, but that is still to be determined.

D FA macros

2004-11-17 Thread David Nelson
Seem to be appearing in Japan. A bit of googling and pondering the
meaning of multiple question marks (translators are for wimps!) has
revealed a couple of piccies you might be interested in.

One interesting feature is that the hood does not attach to the
extending part of the lens barrel - so this barrel part actually extends
within the hood. While this means the hood is less effective at higher
magnifications, it also means that you don't lose the working distance
that you would if the hood extended a few centimetres past the front
element.
So far I've not seen any photos that allow any conclusions on optical
quality to be reached - only a few small samples.
Anyone on the list got one on order?

Cheers,
David
