Ann's shot of the two hats is very amusing. It makes you wonder what the hat wearing observer is thinking there. Also I like the wall art (?) of Stan and Patrick. One thing I found when I checked out the K-5 recently is that after a couple of years using the M1X I'd definitely have to re-learn the camera - even such simple things as the feel of the camera (exacly where the basic controls are, how hard to press the buttons, etc.) are very different. I'd also got used to having a screen on the back of the camera for reviewing shots, adjusting settings, etc. And, of course, a major plus of switching formats was a the lens weight. The one thing I didn't have with the M1X was a backup body. I'd been thinking of getting an M5 - that would presumably be a lot closer operationally to the M1X. I know you'd been less than completely satisifed with your one, but for what I tend to shoot most of the time I suspect It would serve me well enough. I was still thinking things over - after all, you might decide to get rid of your M5 because it didn't meet your requirements - when I took a look at Mike's Camera to see what they would want for an EPL-10 (not for me, but our trusty old EPL-1 is really getting a bit too long in the tooth) and noticed that they were apparently prepared to sell me an M1X for what they wanted for an M5. With C-41, everything is done with the same parameters. It can be done at home with little more than a developing tank, a bucket of warm water, a thermometer and the C-41 chemicals. E6, however, is another thing, not least because it requires very tight temperature control. If there is no local lab to process it you will have to send it in for processing. Ralf -- Ralf R. I see a couple of options. You could use the PUG as an excuse to grab the K-5 and give it some exercise. I know that the 16-50 doesn't like to be left fallow too long, the K-5 probably prefers to get a bit of exercise now and then too. You could put the PK adapter on the OM-1 and get some shots using Pentax glass. You could start an APUG, alternative PUG. Perhaps one with a simplified user interface that required less moderation, but some sort of password (could be the monthly topic) to keep spammers out. You could just enjoy the photos that other people do post, that were taken with Pentax gear. I kind of feel guilty that I never get around to even looking for something to post in the PUG, even though I often look at it and realize I already have a very topical image in my collection. Is there a list anyplace of all of the historical PUG topics? Thanks, Ralf I suspected there would be a low turnout. Henk got the idea but I have to say it reminds me of Jeff Koons - not to mention the inside of an old refrigerator bag of mine :-) so - well done but ugly is my response :-) PT - You clearly know mid-20th century abstract exprssionism - it's a painting.. it's beautiful .. it reminds me of a specific painter of that era whose name has drifted out of my so-called brain. ann On 6/5/2024 8:05 AM, Ralf R Radermacher wrote: Am 05.06.24 um 13:33 schrieb Brian Walters: Enjoy the (disappointingly small) gallery here: Not for want of trying. RE: May PUG is up
I always look but seldom comment. I find it interesting to see how others interpret the theme. I always enjoy those that push the interpretation. I think of Alan's Panorama a while ago. I did try to think of something for this months on the lines of the question "Is there still life in this?" I did enjoy Rick's picture of the desk. I brought back memories of a similar one that my mother had. -Original Message- From: Brian Walters Sent: Tuesday, May 7, 2024 6:42 AM To: pdml@pdml.net Subject: Re: May PUG is up On 7/05/2024 7:34 am, Stan Halpin wrote: > I thought it was a fine (Small!) gallery. Re: November PUG is up
Thanks again Brian! Several this month intrigued me. Ralf’s well seen signage, Henk’s fritillary courtship, Brian’s beautiful scene of a typical freighter… John’s nice shot of his re-purposed shipping container got me wondering about our local zoning restrictions and if/how I could sneak such a container into the vacant lot across the street. But PT’s Banana Boat really got me going! It was so reminiscent of scenes we saw on the upper Amazon in 2018 that I immediately began kicking myself for not having thought of something like that for my own submission. So I went into my archives for that period, found that I did NOT get a picture of the canoes loaded with food or goods to/from the market. Several nice shots of one or two guys motoring along in their transport canoes, but nothing that would have fit the theme. Chagrin that I did not think of looking earlier, relief that I did not miss a potential submission. Meanwhile as I was typing this, my computer screensaver did its every-2 minute-image swap and I was presented with an image that would have been nice for next month. I’ve already submitted for December, and will put this second-thought image out as a PESO next month. A happy coincidence is that my photographic obsessions appear to be seasonal. Henk Ralf wrote: (Maybe I'm obsessed about taking pictures of butterflies.)
