Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Qobuz.com streaming plugin

2022-10-17 Thread whitman

I’m trying Qobuz for a free month. Previously only used Spotify for
streaming. I’m primarily attracted by Qobuz’s hi-res content.

I’m using it with the Qobuz plugin on LMS and Material Skin. Two
questions:

1. How do I change the order that my Fvourited albums appear? They
default to date-added order, but I want alphabetical by artist, as
offered in the Qobuz app. Depsite thast being my choden option in the
Qobuz app, the LMS plugin does not offer this as far as I can see. Am I
missing a way to do this?

2. How can I make folders within the Playlists secion? I use them a lot
in Spotify, and for me they’re really useful to organise that section.
Without them, I have a very long and unruly set of playlists. Again, am
I missing a way to do this?

Thanks, Jim.

1. Does that mean it's possible in LMS but not yet done? Or just not
possible, full stop?

2. No, can't see it in Qobuz's own apps, as you say. I wondered if there
was a way for LMS/Material to organise this. It would be so handy, in my
view.

Jim, thanks for that idea, but not really what I want.

Michael, understood. And I guess from the lack of replies from others
here to this question that there's not much demand for such a facility.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Qobuz.com streaming plugin

2022-10-19 Thread whitman

Doing a little research, it seems that Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music,
at least, all have the facility to make playlist folders. So evidently
there is a demand for something that, in Spotify, I find a very useful
feature for organising what over time can become quite a bevy of
playlists, and I'd still love to be able to use something similar in
Qobuz.

I'm guessing that if the Qobuz plugin via LMS/Material isn't going to
have this facility any time soon, then it might need to happen natively
in Qobuz's own app. A little more fishing around, though, gives me the
impression that Qobuz are not overly responsive to user feedback and
feature requests. Has anyone here had any experience of asking Qobuz for
new features?

Intrigued by your mention of this Wiim thingy. How does it benefit you

I'm not seeing any title/artist info or art for the Jazzradio.fr
stations. Is that expected?

Also, while I'm on, in Material Skin (not checked anything else) I'm
seeing RNP's top list of stations running in an initial chunk
alphabetically (80s/90s to Zog), then four stragglers, then a second
alpha run (BigFM to Whisperings), and one final straggler (Cesky
Rozhlas). Should it not be one long alpha list? Can't see any settings
that would control this.

How odd—in the interim I noticed your 0.0.29a update and installed

Anyway, thanks for all the fish, etc.

And alpha-not-alpha seems like it will remain a mystery. No prob. Just

RCST, this looks exactly what I've been looking for. However, the (new)
download gets to my phone's Shortcuts OK, but I get: "A server with the
specified hostname could not be found." Have I got the format correct? I
know my LMS server's address, and I know the port is 9000, so I have:
http://192.168.X.X.X000/jsonrpc.js
Is that the correct format? If it is, then what else could be adrift?

Oh well, it took me a while, but I am now a happy 7.3.3 user.

All fine - but although the delay from track change to readout change

Is there anything more to be done?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-01-27 Thread whitman

I've had Spotify up and running for about a week now using this great
plugin.

My question is about the quality of the Spotify streams.

I realise this thread is about the plugin, but I wasn't sure where else
to post. I realise, too, that this forum is for the Squeezebox, and not
Spotify itself, but I know that many Squeezebox users enjoy good
quality as well as good music. I felt sure there will be others here
with views on this.

So: I must say I find the quality of the Spotify stream disappointing.
I have the plugin settings on "high quality", which seems to be 320k of
something called Ogg Vorbis. But I find the quality of the streams
rather boxy, flat, and uninspiring. They do not compare well to, say,
the streams I listen to on the great BBC iPlayer plugin for my
Squeezebox, or the AAC+ streams of one of my favourite net radio
stations, Radio Paradise, which I also listen to regularly via the
Squeezebox. Even some MP3s sound better to me than the Spotify
streams.

I'm not sure I'll want to continue the premium Spotify sub if this is
really the kind of "quality" they want me to pay for.

Thanks for that: I hadn't realised there were settings at the Spotify
app/client as well. But it doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm
assuming therefore, Triode, that the setting at Stream Quality in your
plugin's prefs determines the quality that gets to the Squeezebox,
irrespective of whether Sound/Enable High Bit Rate is checked or not in
the prefs at the Spotify app/client?

I'm saying I don't like them. What do you mean by source? Obviously a
poor original will never be improved by Spotify. I'm saying the overall
quality is poor. And to be clear, Triode, are you saying the settings in
Spotify's own app/client do not affect those in your plugin?

When I started this little sub-thread in post 1,936, I was simply
moaning about the overall quality of Spotify's supposedly 'high
quality' 320k stream. It does seem to vary - which I imagine must be
something to do with how Spotify has changed its conversion and/or
storage habits over time - but in general I'm disappointed to have to
pay for something that isn't consistently top-notch.

JackOfAll, that's an interesting thought. Is this the same thing as
Enable Volume Normalization in the Spotify's own app/client prefs? If
yes, see my question above about interaction between Spotify's
app/client and Triode's plugin.

Thanks for the reply, Paul, but I don't understand what you're

track/artist readout, just the station name, without fail.

Michael, the SSL bit of code returns this:

1.966Antonys-Mac-mini:~ MINI$

The perl bit of code returns this:

This is perl 5, version 18, subversion 2 (v5.18.2) built for
darwin-thread-multi-2level
(with 2 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail)
[plus some legal]

I'm running macOS 10.13.3, in other words the latest, on my Mac mini.

Do you still advise me to go to LMS 7.9.1? I've stuck with 7.9.0 because
I'm generally wary of betas, but I'll be guided by you.

Left Channel, I tried these new URLs, and they work fine ... but I get

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce - Song info plugin for ABC Australia radio

2020-05-03 Thread whitman

Paul, thanks for this. Especially useful for me, because I had no idea
about ABC. I've just tried the jazz and classical stations, and all
working fine, apparently timely and accurate.

(I also tried your new KCRW what-are-they-playing plugin; I already knew
about KCRW Eclectic, which I love when I'm in ther right mood, and
again, all apparently working fine and accurately.)

To my taste, the ABC jazz and classical stations have good content, if a
little heavy at times.

Which leads me to a separate, related point. The ABC plugin made it
clear to me that there are still plenty of good (=to my taste) stations
out there I don't know about. I wonder which of the forums here would be
the place to get some other suggestions going, where we might share info
on some good 'uns? I'd be happy to start a conversation about jazz
stations, for example.

Thanks again, Paul: two very helpful new plugins.

Leftchannel, those RP forum items you linked to certainly imply that
increased use of RP might be a factor here.

For me (Virgin ISP in UK) things were a little better yesterday (Wed
13), with Regular stream better at what I'd describe as pretty stable,
but Interactive still very wobbly. The MP3 320 feed was still fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-05-03 Thread whitman

My listening, mostly On Demand via BBC Extras, still plagued with
rebuffering. This evening, for example, tried listening to Clare Teal,
R2 26-4-15, and died after a minute or so, so I restarted the stream,
successfully this time, but then rebuffering constantly after 20 minutes
or so.

Again, if it would help sort this out, I could provide a log, but I'd
need some guidance as it's ages since I've done that.

Neil, no, I don't have Dynamic Mix installed, but I do have Dynamic
Playlists.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-05-06 Thread whitman

Giza, I don't know what an uPNP is, so I can't imagine I have one. And
there's nothing else trying to get on the network at the times of my
rebuffering events.

Neil, I checked the Logitech Media Server Log File, and no error
messages, and nothing else at the time of this evening's rebuferring
events. All I see for this evening were two logs around the time I
switched on to listen to a R2 Listen Again show via BBC iPlayer Extras
...

[15-05-06 18:43:58.8485]
Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraPlayableParser::parse (146) Extra
Playable playlist URL
=http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05t2dj9/playlist.json
[15-05-06 19:02:27.7371]
Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraPlayableParser::parse (146) Extra
Playable playlist URL
=http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05ss73q/playlist.json

The rebufferings began to happen about 20 minutes after that second log
there, around 7:15, and then regularly from about 7:25. I gave up
shortly after that.

Giza, interesting. I took your advice and switched off Upnp in plugins.
Not entirely sure why it was there in the first place. Anyway, I
streamed a few things over the last few evenings, and it's holding up
well. I'll keep testing and report back, just in case it's coincidence,
but fingers crossed ...

Well, looks like it was coincidence. Listening last night to a R2 Listen

well, back to square one. Any suggestions, anyone?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-06-09 Thread whitman

Well here's a simple thing I hadn't thought of. I was convinced the
rebuffering was limited to the two iPlayers, and then about a week ago I
suffered a severe bout of rebuffering while listening to Radio Paradise:
a first for me, as far as I recall. Sod this, I thought, I'm going to
adopt the IT Crowd approach, in other words I turned it off and turned
it on again. After rebooting my main Squeezebox Classic ... no more
rebuffering on iPlayers. Fingers crossed. Weird, no?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2015-10-25 Thread whitman

I've come adrift from SDT (or is it the other way around?).

I've just updated my Mac to Hello My Captain 10.11.1, and after a few
updates and so on to bits of LMS, my SDT seems to have settled on
5.9.16.

But I know late last year I updated to a tcutting new version from this
forum, at least 5.10.something, I think. Not sure. Can someone tell me
what the latest version is and where in this l-o-n-g thread I can find
it? I want the plain-jane version, not the wunderground one.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC Music Jazz through iPlayer plugins?

Will the programmes, November 12th to 15th, be listenable with either

Thanks bpa, that worked a treat. My misunderstanding: I was looking for

I realised I should be looking for "default.opml". I am now fully
prepared to wig out.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Jazz FM changed again!

2016-03-08 Thread whitman

Frozzers, the Tunein Radio scheme is very useful.

Like others here, I have the Tunein app but, er ... never really looked
at it.

I've been trying to find a way to get back into Jazz FM playback for
ages. (I posted a few times earlier in this thread.)

The only negative I can see for now with using Tunein is that once
you're into Jazz FM's playback list, there's no extra info there beyond
the name of the show. For example, I like to listen to Helen Mayhew's or
Sarah Ward's Dinner Jazz show, so it would be really nice to know what
date the three or four shows listed are. I can't see that info. So it's
a bit ... random.

Nonetheless, great to be able once again to get into Jazz FM's playback
stuff. Thanks!

I can't "click" on anything on my SB3s or in the web view, but iPeng
came to the rescue: once I was into TuneIn Radio there and thence into
Jazz FM and catchup, the shows were listed with broadcast dates, so very
easy to play the precise episodes I want.

This way of using TuneIn Radio seems to me a lot easier than all the
kerfuffle with scraping and whatnot. But one man's scraping is another's
... fun, presumably.

Frozzers, thanks for showing the way. Thing is, to be honest I rarely
use the web view, so I didn't go far enough. But as slim-maikel says,
it's those extra steps that deter. Anyway, I'll be sticking with TuneIn
Radio and iPeng for now, as that's easy and clear.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer Extras - problem?

2016-03-27 Thread whitman

I'm still using the non-Dash version of bpa's BBC iPlayer Extras plugin.
Nothing doing today: not a single show will play. Before I dig deeper,
is anyone else having problems ... or is it just me?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer Extras - problem?

2016-03-28 Thread whitman

Bpa ...

I get shows from today. Fail.

Schedules fail, categories fail, A-Zs fail.

The "On Demand Stream Preference" in the BBCiPlayer plugin reads HLS >
MP3 > FlashAAC > Flash MP3.

The only general change on my Mac recently has been that I've updated
from OSX El Capitan 10.11.3 to 10.11.4.

Puzzling.

Apologies, bpa, for not clarifying the problem.

In all cases, I get to the list of shows, I click on a show, the display
