[powernet] telemetry software latency

2016-10-17 Thread Bradley A Krupp
Fermi 2 is looking for feedback from peers on how much latency (time delay from
when a dosimeter is in a dose rate field to when the dose rate and workers dose
is displayed on the computer screen) they are seeing in their telemetry
systems and what you may have done to improve it. We know there are a lot of
issues that can affect it such as software used, network infrastructure, how
many bases verses repeaters, computer capabilities, etc.. We currently use
Teleview 2000, WRM2 base stations and repeaters, and DMC 2000 EDs in iPAM
transmitters. Any feedback you can provide is appreciated. Thanks in advance
for your assistance.

Re: [Powernet] Quick Benchmarking on ED's

2018-10-31 Thread Bradley A Krupp via Powernet
Fermi 2

Using a mix of DMC2000S and DMC3000. DMC2000's are used primarily for remote
monitoring. DMC3000's are used for everything else. Once we upgrade our
telemetry software (currently using TeleView 2000 but we own but have not
implemented GEDDS) we plan on phasing out the use of DMC2000's. Currently own
a few DMC3000 transmitter modules but are not using them.

[Powernet] Landauer Verifii digital dosimetry platform

2019-01-09 Thread Bradley A Krupp via Powernet
We have been asked to evaluate whether the Landauer Verifii digital dosimetry
platform would be of any value to implement at Fermi 2. We currently use the
Landauer Inlight Model 2 for our DLR along with Sentinel. Mirion DMC2000's and
3000's are used as SRDs along with the applicable transmitter when remote
monitoring is required. TeleView 2000 is currently used as our remote
monitoring software. We are in the process of transitioning to GEDDS. Has
anyone evaluated implementing or implemented the Verifii platform at their
site? It appears to be geared more towards medical facility use. There also
does not appear to be any way to perform remote monitoring. I've included a
link to a video we were provided and the Landauer website for additional
information. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can be.

I didn't get much of an initial response to this question when I sent it out to

I wanted to see if any facilities were using emails to send Form 5s and send

Re: [Powernet] [EXTERNAL] Fixed Radiation Monitoring System calibration question

2019-01-29 Thread Bradley A Krupp via Powernet
At Fermi 2, the RP Dept has a separate group of instrument personnel that are
fully qualified RP techs. This affords them the ability to handle sources,
post areas, etc. as necessary. They are responsible for both tech spec and non
tech spec rad monitor calibrations (GE, Gulf Atomic) throughout the plant while
also performing functional tests on a handful of them. These include liquid and
gas effluent and area radiation monitors.

I would appreciate your response to the two questions below:

  1. Who performs the detector calibrations on your installed radiation

  1. If RP/HP DOES NOT perform your installed RMS detector calibrations, is
the department performing the calibrations trained/qualified to handle sources
(or does RP escort/handle the sources for them)?

Re: [Powernet] [EXTERNAL] High Range Noble Gas Monitors

2019-06-05 Thread Bradley A Krupp via Powernet
Fermi 2 recently upgraded to using GEDDS as our telemetry software. We have
been able to set up AMS-4s in GEDDS. Theses have just been the standard
particulate units. My question has to do with a unit set up for Noble gas. We
are able to configure it in GEDDS but don’t understand if there is any
additional setup that will reference it as a noble gas monitor. To the best of
our knowledge, the AMS-4 has an activity readout (we use uCi/cc) and that just
gets transferred to GEDDS in that manner. We think the AMS-4 is indifferent as
to whether that is alpha, beta or gamma activity. Not sure if GEDDS would see
that as something different. Does anyone have any AMS-4’s set up with GEDDS
that are Noble gas only or any insight on them? I’ve copied our instrument
folks to keep them in the loop. Thanks in advance for your help!

Has another utility experienced unusual neutron spikes response when using

We have experienced several unusual neutron doses and dose rates within a short
time after activation of the DMC2000GN.

What is the activity of the 40K? I would think you could release them by direct
frisk. Is there any reasonable way that a fire extinguisher can become
internally contaminated with licensed material? Typical fire extinguishers are
under slight positive pressure even when discharged; I think that it is
unreasonable to do anything more than direct and indirect surveys of the
external surfaces.

You may have to revise the material release procedure to specifically exempt
fire extinguishers to answer any concerns, which might have been expressed.
