Re: [ql-users] DJW Software
For CAVERNS: http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/A.Jaw.Venema/ It is, as I recall, referred to as the "Arachnoid type game." Re: [ql-users] Directory Devices
When I used to have more than one QL networked to another, I arbitrarily referred to the networked drives as ndk_ (after fdk ... i.e., Network DisK) regardless of its actual physical type. Does that make sense? Is that what you wanted to know? I'd like to compile as complete a list of current directory devices on QL-style systems as possible so that I may provide icons for these devices as required. Obviously, 'default' icons will be available for any 'unknown' devices. The directory devices I am aware of at the moment are: MDV FLP/FDV/FDK (the 3 types of floppy systems over the years) RAM WIN ROM ATR - Atari/DOS disk device IIRC DOS - QPC2 CDR - Thierry's Atapi drivers. NUL - Nul device (+ BLACK_HOLE?) N, M and S - network devices (assuming these count) (DEV, SUB, PTH etc don't count as they could I suppose be anything) Any more known directory device driver names? -- Dilwyn Jones Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Re: [ql-users] The Wall, etc, etc
Microsoft has issued Service Pack 1 for XP which can be downloaded their site -- available for the past month ... it is a free download. There have been many early driver issues with XP that were or are being fixed. Some of these problems will not always be noticed with some operations but may with other calls to the system. Strange as with 3.03 the sound code is almost exactly the same on both OSs. I would love to be able to kill the XP noise, somehow You can configure SMSQE.BIN manually using MenuConfig and disable sound/reduce volume. Consequently, Jan Venema has provided the source code so that someone else could finish the program -- essentially, FLP SERial support. I could be incorrect in my assumption as to Venema's motivation for writing QLAY. There is a LINUX compatible version, too. QLAY will probably do 95% of what you are looking for. The current/persistent limitations of QLAY are its inability to communicate with SERial or FLP ... files are held on a WIN drive. QUILL files, for example, can be created and SAVEd, but must be PRINTed through DOS ... transfers must be done in DOS, etc. Non-text files may need to be ZIPped before being transferred through DOS for PC-disk to QL ... Both of the limitations [i.e., lack of FLP SERial support] can probably be overcome if a QLever QUANTA member (OR, any other QLingon reading this LIST) who can write machine code (or, assembly?) would complete the code. SBYTEd dongled-TK2_code can be used with QLAY. I have read that QLAY is much slower than QPC when run on the same platform (factor of 3?). AFAIK, QLAY's speed is dependent on the host platform's speed -- I think that on anything faster than a 66MHz PC, QLAY will be faster than the original QL. Again, the QPC emulation will be much faster on a faster host platform. --- -- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
