Re: Fwd: [QUAD-L] Chairs
At one time I had visions of modifying my Quicke P300 2/93 to 8/99 and making a pulling chair to pull a small tractor pull type sled. I passed the chair on to a friend who's father was an amputee (leg) due to diebetis and only had a manual chair and just lost his wife, who never let him have a power chair. Permobil has a cool 9mph one, not covered, but it's way cool. The whole front end slides out an extra 10 inches or so for speed stability. My provider told me they use to wave the 20% co-pay, but insurance's contrates made them stop doing it. I'd love to bring one to custom chopper place. What would you have them do to your chair? Greg
Re: Fwd: [QUAD-L] Chairs
I wonder why she was against a power chair? Most people want to get their loved one in a power chair because its less pushing for both and more independence. Maybe they didn't have a vehicle to haul it or the wife was afraid the power chair would ruin the carpet. Have you looked at the Bounder H Frame? On Fri, Aug 8, 2014 at 12:26 PM, greg g...@eskimo.com wrote: My chair is in the shop again. Tires, tighten up where a few bolts have fallen off, new lateral supports, etc. I asked about motors and motor breaks, my chair rolls pretty easy when in off/stopped position. but he mentioned that's a lot of money for a chair that old. So I put that off for now. My chair is like 11 years old now. I know Medicare and insurance's don't cover the fast chairs, but anyone know of some faster ones that are covered? 7.5 is about as fast as I've found. Thanks, Greg

Whats that ridiculously expensive chair that expands the wheelbase with a switch? I saw one on ebay, it extends out longer for higher speeds and offroad driving. By comparison, some of the fastest cars I know, require the most amount of daily work and adjustments, because they are fast. Because a chair operates faster, means that its harder on the suspension, wheels, bearings and energy usage. You can expect to change the tires more often, which could be costly. I've seen old chairs with new parts work better than some brand new chairs, so in some cases it is better to consider a rebuild over a newer design. But consider all of those reasons.
