Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-05-31 Thread chipmalee

Something funky with DAR. I had my normal recording scheduled but seems
when DAR can't record, it repeats itself to record...over and over (see
screenshot).

Also DAR was down for maintenance over the holiday weekend but it
kept on scheduling recordings but recordings were not made and it just
looped itself.

Also, I keep deleting the recordings in the screenshot and it would not
deleteughhh.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-05-25 Thread Ikabob

I registered to Dar.fm and saved several talk radio programs. I get
emails informing me that they are available to retrieve.

Again, when I try to retrieve them at mp3tunes music locker on the
Squeezebox, I get the mp3tunes error message: login failed. Does
anyone have any possible remedies? I really would like to try this
service. Thank you.

The work around is create your mp3tunes account on your SB instead of
entering your ID and password on mySB.com. I have discussed this on
last week's radio show. If you still have problems, call the radio
show this Saturday at 11pm and I'll walk you thru it.

I assume from your profile, you have both a Squeezebox and Squeezebox
Radio and your question is how to hear the radio show on your
Squeezebox. There is instructions on the radio show thread on how to
add the stream onto your Squeezebox favorites but you can also call the
telephone number posted during the show and hear it.

Hope that helps. It's better to use a audio format to explain things
rather than writing back and forth on a forum. That's why I started
the radio show. Of course the best format would be audio visual but
radio is not that advance yet.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-05-11 Thread chipmalee

Did anyone else not get their recordings on their SqueezeRadio today?
Very strange. 2 scheduled recordings I made Tuesday morning never made
it to my SqueezeRadio (SR) plus they were not in my MP3Locker either.
Later I tested by scheduling 2 more recordings at the same time but
difference stations. Very strange, all my recordings are gone on the
SR now. But they are all there in my DAR.fm account. Is this a
Squeezebox or DAR problem? To be continued.

Let me know your experience on this Saturday's Squeezebox Radio Show.

I made make a daily recording 7am and by the time I can get to it at

Just heard Leo say Michael was on his Twit show talking about Universal

This is pretty cool. I missed the original announcement, but tested
this a bit last night. As an NPR listener, most of what I would want

this is a nice solution.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-05-08 Thread mp3michael

Chip,

Thanks for the feedback. Let me address the numbered cons:

1) The DAR system puts the day in the Playlist URL. Is this not
sufficient for you?

2) DAR.fm has 1200 stations in our database. It's true stations do not
make their stream URLs easy to find because they want you to go to
their web site. Radiotime has a great database that they've pulled
together over the last 6 years. We tried to work with them but they
didn't want to work with us. So we're making our own. We've only been
at it for 3 months and already have a good start.

3) We are testing .asx support which is a format many stations use. We
should be able to support that shortly. This should enable the addition
of 1000 stations.

4) We can add a smaller time increment to the recording time. I will
talk to my engineers about this.

5) A free locker will hold about 70 hours of recording assuming the
station transmits at 24kbps aac. This is the bit rate for most AM/FM
stations. If the station transmits at a higher bit rate (like some net
only stations do) it could be less than 70 hours. For $20 users can get
space for about 700 hours so support DAR.fm if you like it and want more
storage!

I will check out your radio show.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-05-08 Thread mp3michael

There are 1200+ stations on DAR.fm to record, but there are many more on
the net that are not yet in the system. It's easy to add a station, you
just need the streaming URL. Here's instructions about how to find
them.

1) Go to Google .com and search for the station name and/or call
letters and pls or m3u together in one search like this: kabc pls
[OR] kabc m3u
2) Sift through the Google results looking for any URL that ends in
.pls. Copy this entire URL.
3) Test the URL in iTunes. Open iTunes. From the Advanced menu select
Open Audio Stream and paste the URL in. If you hear nothing that is
not a correct URL. Keep trying different URLs until you hear the
desired audio then you'll know you have a good URL is good
4) Add the station to DAR.fm by going to this URL
http://www.dar.fm/streamadd.php Type in the particulars of the station
(location, genre, time zone) and then paste the URL in.

It will instantly be available for recording on DAR.fm and playback on
Squeezebox.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-05-07 Thread chipmalee

PROs:
1. Recording is stored on MP3Tunes Locker in sippets with labels of
the name of songs or Break if there's commercials.
2. Cloud storage on MP3Tunes.com. Playback anytime, anywhere.
3. You can play back on your Squeezebox thus freeing your computer.
4. It is the closest thing to a Radio Tivo. RadioTime has recorder
apps for iPhones but has suspended their Red Button recorder
software.
5. This is the next killer app! This is the first of it's kind!
There's rumors there will be a DAR.fm button on the next generation
of Squeezebox.

CONs:
1. Recording in MP3Locker sippets is hard to keep track of. There's
no time log of the overall time recorded.
2. Limited radio stations in DAR.fm database. You can't add
Favorite like in your Squeezebox but you can submit a new radio
station URL
stream.
3. Radio stream URL must include a .pls or .m3u extension
(http://www.dar.fm/streamadd.php). This is no good since most streams
URL are
hidden, which RadioTime has been able to figure out but not reveal.
4. Recording schedule is hourly and by hourly increments only.
5. There's no indication how much of your free 2GB MP3Tunes locker
storage you have left.

Hear Chip's review tonight on The Squeezebox Radio Show tonight.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-05-04 Thread chipmalee

Great idea!!! mp3michael. I've been trying to find something like a
RadioTivo since the 90s
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81243). The closest
thing is RadioTime, which has evolved into TuneIn but their recording
portion has been suspended.

Here's some problems I've run into in your DAR database. Your database
doesn't have a station I wanted to record so I'm submitting a URL. As
an example, I need submit Hawk 99.9 but their player is a pop up.
There's no URL or I can't find one that fits your requirement (m3u or
pls). I tried submitting RadioTime URL but your website
(http://www.dar.fm/streamadd.php) won't accept it. It came back with
Malformed stream URL or wrong file type. PLS or M3U only. Fix and
re-try.. So my question is where or how do I find the appropriate
stream URL for Hawk 99.9?

Hawk 99.9 URLs:
http://www.999thehawk.com/page.php?page_id=36466

javascript:popUp('http://player.streamtheworld.com/_players/nassau/?callsign=WODEFMplaynextauto=true#Main')

RadioTime URL:
http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s21661formats=aac,ogg,mp3,wma,wmvoicepartnerId=16serial=5f08ee5a908da686c2e0d287c765f757

http://tunein.com/radio/999-The-Hawk-s21661/

I think this is where RadioTime works its magic. They are able to
convert an unknown URL to play on the Squeezebox.

In summary, how do I record Hawk 99.9 at 720am for 15 minutes using
DAR? Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Listening to any talk show on demand on your Squeezebox

2011-04-28 Thread mp3michael

We're beta testing a new service called which operates like a Tivo for
radio and we want to invite Squeezebox users to try it out. Using this
service you can record radio shows and music station broadcasts to be
recorded and then listen to them on demand with your Squeezebox. It
operates like a DVR, but for radio content instead of TV content. As
with a DVR you can time shift content and skip commercials/segments
you're not interested in. It is free to use and the show guide has
thousands of popular and obscure shows to choose from.

The service is called http://www.DAR.fm and here's how you can try it:

1) Go to DAR.fm and search for either a show name or station. When you
locate what you want click the Record button (it's the red circle).
2) Either create an account or login with your existing account. PLEASE
NOTE: If you have a MP3tunes account then simply use those credentials.

3) Go to mysqueezebox.com and add the MP3tunes app to your device. Be
sure and select Put icon on home page for easy access. You will need
to enter the same credentials you used in step #2.
4) After each recording you should receive an email letting you know
that it recorded. Go to your Squeezebox and select the MP3tunes icon
and then select Playlists. In this list you should see a playlist
containing your recording. It should being with DAR. Select it and
enjoy radio goodness!

TIP: You can pause content with the pause button. If you want to rew/ff
then hold down the rew/ff button until a progress bar appears. Then
release the button. Press and hold it again and you'll see the timer
advance or rewind. Release it when you've moved the desired time.

Please give it a try. Email any feedback to me:
mich...@michaelrobertson.com.

If you want content tips try the brilliant comedic genius of Phil
Hendrie or the financial smarts of Dave Ramsey.
