REAL EASY, It's not hard. You haven't seen many BpBr Duplexers have you? The pass is tuned with the plunger (inthe center) and the notch is tuned with the Rod (not plexiglass). The RF is applied at the connector (one end of the internal loop) the other end of the loop has a "cap to ground" adjusted by changing the dielectric of the "cap" by adjusting the "rod". That's how it works in a very very simplestic exp. And I don't > think it's a hybrid ring either. RIGHT !!! [Repeater-Builder] Re: Speaking of Wacom WP-678
Dual ports are not required for BpBr cavity probes. The decreased notch depth is probably due to the lower Q of the smaller cavities... 4 or 5 inches. Telewave does the same single port function without the reactance rods. Their probe construction sets up the same end result with less physical hardware. Sinclair has a newer generation one hole cavity port with two and three coax fittings on it. Another means to and end... cheers skipp ps: "fairly old...", "made in the 80's"..? > "Paul Finch" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello, > > that is one of Lloyd Alcorn's marvels. RE: [Repeater-Builder] Hi All, Help with Building Cavity
Ed, I have a set built out of the May 1973 QST... With few modifications they work as well or better than the Wacoms or Cellwaves I have used. Am currently sourcing some 4" type L copper now to build more. If you have mort time than money, you can come up with duplexers that may not always be the prettiest, but darn functional. QST also had an article I am looking back to see if I can find, that if I recall is called the "Six-pack". Its made from double-sided PC boards and then plated with Silver as a part of the construction. I have not talked to anyone who has used them, or even built them, but certainly am looking at them for a repeater that we can back pack to its destination. Randy, W0AVV Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] Celwave PD200 Repair
Subject: Antenna Repair Fiberglass Collinear Antenna We were given a 5.8 db Gain Stationmaster for the 220 band, and it seems to be very sick. There is no DC continuity directly across the UHF connector, and the VSWR is horrible! We are in the process of taking this antenna apart, however there are some of you on this site have been there and done that. This subject has been covered a while back, but I can't seem to find any reference in the index. If I recall, there are three screws holding the base, but the antenna fiber glass sheath will not pull out, only if a torch heats the solder at the antenna tip. Also, the index does cover the Celwave Paint procedures for the fiberglass after assembly (this antenna needs this work). The index needs to be updated, and even then the price of the gallon minimum of the urethane paint and catalyst is exorbitant! I have been told by some of the locals that a supply house in my area for Corvette and boat fiberglass repair will fix me up with UV non metallic type urethane paint at a reasonable price. You can contact me direct ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or via the builder site. Thanks. Tony, K3WX Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] Getting frequencies for UHF repeater eithe r commercial or ham?
Two users?! I hate to be the one to say this on Repeater-Builder, but ... Cell phone? Free calling between "family" members? Can you hear me now? Good. Dollar estimates below (you can replace the numbers with your real ones to do your own homework on this, but...): Assume: * The cost of building the commercial repeater with radio, duplexer, hardline, antenna, isolator, and NOT including tower space/site rent is $1000. * The cost of a monthly two-person cellular bill with two phones that you can probably get for free is approximately $35/month. You're looking at 28 months to hit break-even and get any economic benefit from your investment in that commercial repeater if the area is serviced with cellular coverage. This also assumes no failures or maintenance bills on the repeater for at least two years. I'd say that estimate of $1000 for a first time repeater builder is not unreasonable if you have none of the parts. You can get that cost down by finding surplus commercial radios and things, but you'd have to factor in the true cost of your time to hunt down the gear, test/tune it, etc. Then you have to compare the coverage area. The truth is that a 2-way radio repeater for two people doesn't ever make economic sense... (or cents)... unless there's no cellular coverage where you live at all. However, it's hard to measure the "fun" factor. If you think your wife would actually carry her radio and use it to call you, knowing that you're the only person she can reach on it and that it's not a secured or private communications medium... and you just want to do it for fun, go for it. Build the repeater, by all means! -- Nate WY0X p.s. No licensing or coordination expenses were factored into this what-if scenario above either. Those would add in and make the ROI even later. It works on 6 meters because your antenna noise temperature is much higher than the noise temperature of the pad/preamp combination. If you need a preamp on a 6 meter receiver though, I would think the receiver must be a little deaf. That method can never yield good performance at UHF, where antenna noise temperatures are much closer to ambient (295 K). Bob NO6B Yahoo! RE: [Repeater-Builder] Getting frequencies for UHF repeater either commercial or ham?
I live in Wyoming so the FRS is not going to work as I cant cover the distance I need with it as the power requirement is not enough. Putting up a repeater for only two user is not uncommon up here. We have several that only run a few users at most population being what it is. Renting from another I have already checked into the coverage for the locations that I am wanting is not possible due to the nature of the locations are so far apart that only one repeater over half the area and the other repeater the other half. Would be nice to have one that would cover the whole area. It would be two users at first but would grow in time to include more. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Sinclair Q-203d Duplexer Question
Charles, It is shown in the list in my older Sinclair catalogue...but no spec's other than 148 -174 Mhz. The 201 and 202 are shownthe 202 has somewhat higher notches than the 201so I suspect that the 203 will be somwhat poorer in the notch depth again. It is a 500 Khz spacing unit. 73 John VE3AMZ - Original Message - From: "Charles Blythe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 2004 11:14 PM Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Sinclair Q-203d Duplexer Question | Well, in keeping with my tradition, I saved another batch of radio | equipment from the dumpster. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Wacom Duplexer Question WP678-R2?
I don't think the "R2" means anything. I bought a WP-678 duplexer for a GMRS station many years ago, and it was packed with an 8-page brochure entitled, "Field Tuning Instructions for WP-678-2 and WP-665-R2 4-cavity BpBr Circuit Duplexers." The instructions are no different from any routine tuning procedure for UHF pass/notch cavity duplexers. Moreover, the WP-678-R2 is a standard UHF four-cavity duplexer for a 5 MHz split. Nothing special. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY > Hi Guys. > > I've found a Wacom WP678-R2, and am considering purchase of same... Yahoo! RE: [Repeater-Builder] Hi All, Help with Building Cavity
There are plans in May 73 for a set of 2 meter duplexers that I currently use. They do not as I recall list a source for the silver plating material, but you can generally get one of your local photo processors to give you used fixer solution from color photo processing (contains lots of silver). With a plating kit(sources such as JC Whitney), 5 gallons of that solution will be more than adequate for plating the duplexers inside and out! Good luck if 2 meters is where you are headed. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Wacom Duplexer Question WP678-R2?
We do this routinely; however, can't remember about the reject tuning (I don't actually do the tuning another guy does), but I do know that this is in the back of the T1504 Motorola manual. The combining cables between the two duplexer has to be a 1/4 wave and the lengths are there for the cutting. It also helps when the two repeaters are 10 MHz apart, i.e., one at 450 MHz and the other at 460 MHz. One side note, it works with the Motorola and Wacom duplexers but not a decibel. Anyone know why not? We don't! Steve Bosshard (NU5D) wrote: Pretty sure the R2 was when they took 2, 678's roughly 2 to 2.5 mc apart and ran them on a common antenna. On each duplexer, tune pass normal, and tune reject on one cavity for it's own TX or RX, and the second cavity to reject the second TX or RX. This way you can run 2 repeaters on one antenna with very little trouble. Doug There is a product you are looking for called AICKINZAP made by Aickinstrut products. Their phone number is USA 1-412-828-3196. They are located at River Road, Verona, PA. This is what the Federal Aviation Administration uses to paint fiberglass antennas to exclude the uv rays and give longer antenna life. The cost if very high-$20-$30 USD per 4 oz can.
