i have been using their antenna,2 dipole,for almost 10 years now,in a salt

the quality is there and price too,at least in CND prices.
i also have an SRL210A4 Sinclair on top of a tower at 250 feet for 30 years

i would never use fiberglass antenna for repeater, static, grounding,,quality,i

I haven't bought any of their antennas for ham projects yet. I've
purchased
one of their VHF dipole arrays for a commercial job, but I wasn't
on-site
when it was delivered, unpacked, or installed, so I didn't get to
examine
it. Most of what I've heard has been positive. They share a lot of
similarity with Sinclair's products; I heard (maybe even here) that
some of
their engineers, or maybe company founders, were ex-Sinclair employees.
They seem to be much more popular in Canada then down here in the
states.

I have some of Comprod's filtering products and have been happy with
those.

I've been very happy with Sinclair's dipole arrays, which is what I was
leaning toward buying, but the price is getting a little out of hand.
The
Decibel dipole arrays were a good value, too bad they quit making them
for
the UHF ham split. These antennas will all be top-mounted, and I refuse
to
use fiberglass omnis for such installations, so my choices for dipole
arrays
are fairly limited. If Telewave made dipole arrays that included the
mast
and internal harness I'd consider them too, but they don't. TX-RX's
dipole
arrays (made by RFI) are another option, but I haven't yet found anybody
using them, and I'm not sure I want to be the $2000 guinea pig.

Heck, even the "cheap" ham antennas aren't so cheap anymore: current AES
price for a Comet GP9 is $220. I think that's about double what it was
when it first became available.

The main reason why I stopped using West Crystal. They didn't raise their
prices, but they got too expensive.

Don't overlook Comprod. Very similar antennas, and I think they're
cheaper. We are on low-band, and they are re-designing the phasing
harnesses and feeders so that we can run high power (aka 2kw) instead of
their normal 300w rating.

I was very impressed with them. When we called Sinclair and asked for such
a beast, they just blew us off. Comprod got an engineer on the phone with
us and the new low-band, high-power bays and phasing harnesses are in the
works for 2 and 4 bay arrays.

Yeah Jeff, I think they when commodities prices (metal) went higher, and
the Canadian dollar started falling.

This was one of the reasons we decided to "experiment" with 2-bay
antennas at our "not as important" sites... amongst other things, like
them being a heck of a lot easier to deal with on the tower... etc.

Also watch out for something we ran into... find out if your distributor
has them IN-STOCK. We had to wait for the factory to make them, ship
them to the distributor, then the distributor shipped them here,
complete with running them over with a fork-lift, going through the

be made...

About 1 year ago price of metals about doubled, some trippled like lead now
they are almost back where they were so it will take some time before the
raw material cost factor catches up to the lower price of the raw metals if
it ever will.

Then there was the fuel surcharge for trucking the raw materials and the
finished product.

As I said, "last I heard" :-)

That being said, I am not knocking Cushcraft - I've used their
antennas in everything from repeater service to EME use and never had
an real complaints (I especially liked their 4 dipole arrays for
repeater service).

Some of Comprod's cavity filter products look a lot like TX-RX, but not all.
They make a line of duplexers and filters that are square cavities, more
like EMR's. TX-RX does make some square cavities; I have some square TX-RX
cavities that are high-power models for 900 MHz paging.

I have a couple of Comprod UHF duplexers - they don't look anything like
TX-RX. Go here and look at the page that has model #66-40-44 on it. The
Comprod duplexer I have are built like this, but the exterior of the ones I
have aren't gold alodine, they're painted with grey epoxy paint, about the
same shade Wacom used to use before they switched to black a few years
before the company went 10-7:

http://www.comprodcom.com/en/filters/duplexers/pdf/duplexer.pdf

Comprod's dipole arrays look lot like Sinclair's.

Go figure.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Sinclair - big price jump?

2009-06-02 Thread Jeff DePolo

I haven't bought any of their antennas for ham projects yet. I've purchased
one of their VHF dipole arrays for a commercial job, but I wasn't on-site
when it was delivered, unpacked, or installed, so I didn't get to examine
it. Most of what I've heard has been positive. They share a lot of
similarity with Sinclair's products; I heard (maybe even here) that some of
their engineers, or maybe company founders, were ex-Sinclair employees.
They seem to be much more popular in Canada then down here in the states.

I have some of Comprod's filtering products and have been happy with those.

I've been very happy with Sinclair's dipole arrays, which is what I was
leaning toward buying, but the price is getting a little out of hand. The
Decibel dipole arrays were a good value, too bad they quit making them for
the UHF ham split. These antennas will all be top-mounted, and I refuse to
use fiberglass omnis for such installations, so my choices for dipole arrays
are fairly limited. If Telewave made dipole arrays that included the mast
and internal harness I'd consider them too, but they don't. TX-RX's dipole
arrays (made by RFI) are another option, but I haven't yet found anybody
using them, and I'm not sure I want to be the $2000 guinea pig.

Just wondering what your thoughts are concerning the COMPROD line of antennas.
I was at one of their seminars and was very impressed with the construction and
workmanship.

I was about to order some Sinclair dipole arrays for upcoming projects

(SD318 series 8-bay UHF). Last time I ordered one, probably 5 or 6 years

ago, I thought it was around $1400. This time, all of my usual vendors are

giving me quotes over $2,000???!? Did Sinclair have a big price jump over

the last few years?

I'm still waiting for a callback from the factory. I may go with Comprod

instead - about $400 less each.
