I would love to see that site renovated and brought into the 21st Century. No
question that it looks like a time warp from 1996 right now.

Any volunteers? Paravel will gladly donate server space and hosting for such.

Cheers!

Do ‘glasscoder --list-codecs’. That should return the list of codecs which the
binary is actually able to load (and is how glassgui builds its list of
available formats).

> glasscoder command line invocation returns unsupported library format
> (library not found)

Where have you installed the codecs? They have to be in a place where ld.so(8)
can find it. A favorite gotcha on RHEL-ish systems is to put them in
‘/usr/local/lib’ (the default for many configure scripts), but *not* in the
default list of places where ld.so(8) looks. To fix that, you can:

1) Install them in ‘/usr/lib’ or ‘/usr/lib64’ as appropriate. You can do that
by passing ‘—prefix=/usr’ to ‘configure’ when building each codec. This is my
preferred practice.

2) Add ‘/usr/local/lib’ to the list of places where ld.so(8) looks. To do
that, do (as root):

echo /usr/local/lib > /etc/ld.so.conf.d/glasscoder.conf
ldconfig

Cheers!

[RDD] RML Send and RD Softkey

2016-10-31 Thread Matthew Chambers
I was trying to set up RML Softkey to remotely control my main studio
playout machine to switch between LiveAssist and Auto and to PN (Play Next)
from my windows laptop for a live remote I'm doing in the station parking
lot with a wireless mic. I'm sitting here in the studio sending test RML
commands from RML Send and RML Softkey to print a message in RDAirplay for
testing and it's not working

[SoftKeys]
;
; This section can be used to program the RDSoftKeys applet, or you
; can use the --map-file= switch to configure multiple soft
; key setups on the same host.

  Columns=4

  Command1=kele-air.kele.local:LC\ darkRed\ Remote\ Control!
  Legend1=Remote Control
  Color1=blue

  Command2=10.0.0.108:PM\ 1!
  Legend2=Live Assist
  Color2=yellow

  Command3=10.0.0.108:PM\ 2!
  Legend3=Auto
  Color3=green

  Command4=10.0.0.108:PM\ 3!
  Legend4=Manual
  Color4=red

  Command5=10.0.0.108:PN\ 0!
  Legend5=Play Next
  Color5=green

I tried just sending the RML from RMLsend and nothing is happening in
RDAirplay

"Good Point, although the official site is paravelsystems.com..."

Is it? I go way back with Rivendell, to at least 2005. I know Fred and
Scott developed it for Salem and I was involved with some of the events
that led to Salem's dropping the project. (Something I was vehemently
against, which nearly cost me my job.) I'm glad that Fred and Scott were
able to set up Paravel and continue the development of Rivendell and make
it a viable product for those entities who just can't grasp the concept of
Open Source and community support and development. However, I am a staunch
supporter of Open Source and community support and I would like to see that
preserved with Rivendell. I have nothing against Paravel for providing
turnkey solutions and paid support options for Rivendell. After all, that
business model allows for a lot of money to be made on Open Source
software. However, from the Paravel website, it is difficult to see the
Open Source aspects of Rivendell. There is no mention of the availability
of source code or download locations. There is no mention of this forum or
other support avenues. The only download options offered were for the
Broadcast Appliance DVD. The station I tried to recommend Rivendell to
actually went to the Paravel site and came away with the impression their
only option was to purchase the workstations from Paravel with Rivendell
installed for $5k each, way out of their budget. The pages at
http://rivendellaudio.org give a much better feel of the Open Source aspect
of the project and that quality, professional automation is within reach of
small, no budget, operations. It's just that those pages are woefully out
of date. It would be helpful if they were more current.

Just my thoughts.

Re: [RDD] Rivendell Website

2016-10-31 Thread Bill Putney
I'd suggest the Broadcast Appliance version of Rivendell from Paravel
systems. You can find it at
http://www.paravelsystems.com/rivendell-broadcast-appliance/ . It is a
LiveCD and includes the Centos Linux distro. Put a CD or thumb drive in
a PC and you have Rivendell in an hour or so. It requires a 64 bit
computer with at least 512 GB of disk. I think 4 or 8 GB of memory would
be good though I don't think the install script checks that. It will
install a several different flavors of Rivendell depending on if you
want a stand alone client/server or just a client. The server keeps the
audio storage and the database for the audio. The client does the most
of the work, has the user interface and does the playout of audio.

If outdated and nobody is maintaining the site, just add a redirect meta
tag in the main page of www.rivendellaudio.org site sending someone to
the main paravell site.
