[Rosegarden-user] Route multiple tracks into a single synth plugin
Hi list, I'm currently using rosegarden to arrange music for my band, and find it very convenient. At the moment, I load soundfonts into qsynth and then do the required patchwork with qjackctl. But I've been wondering if it's possible to load the fluidsynth-dssi (or any other multichannel plugin) into rosegarden, and then letting multiple tracks using the same single instance of that synth. The reason I'm wondering this is acceptable quality GM soundfonts are usually expensive on RAM and while one can load them into qsynth, that makes for an extra step when opening sessions. Also it would be nice to have all the synth parameters saved within the rosegarden's save file. Thanks in advance to all of you people. Fede -- Comprehensive Server Monitoring with Site24x7. I guess I'll have to stick to qsynth for now. On the other hand, I just found out that I could load linuxsampler into the master midi bus of qtractor and have multiple tracks use a single instance of that plugin, so for anyone looking for such a feature, there is that option. The situation is exactly the same, suddenly only the selected track plays. I remember it used to happend when I fiddled with a track's channel number. I've since upgraded to the develpment version and haven't seen the problem again. If you have already put some work on your piece but you can't recover it, the only way I found to dodge this is to export to MIDI and then import in a new session. Re: [Rosegarden-user] Midi playback
I usually make use of the dssi plugin capability of rosegarden, and while not all-encompassing, it works. If you need a preset, you can set up a session with the needed fluidsynth-dssi plugins loaded, each with it's own soundfont, and then save it as default session. If your soundfont is a GM one (with all the instruments inside one file) you can split it with swami or polyphone. I find it more comfortable to have everything within RG when arranging midi so that whenever I feel like working on a tune, I just need to run jack and rosegarden. Another plus is that you can apply LADSPA effects within the same program, which are far supperior to the fluidsynth's ones. The dssi implementation could be better, but hey, it works as it is, so it could be a lot worse. Have a nice one, Fede -- Dive into the World of Parallel Programming!
