What time is "Hey Coach" on this season?  Is it the same time it has been on?  I thought I saw on Yahoo it was going to be on from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Central time.  Or was that a mistake by Yahoo's part?

Too much anti-Bush hysteria It can leave others suffering from a classic case of
overkill
James Lileks
August 12, 2004

Do you suffer from Sudden Bush Hatred Fatigue Syndrome?

It's easy to diagnose. It often strikes at a bookstore. You walk in looking for a
breezy summer read, and piled near the door are stacks and stacks of angry tomes about
the perfidy of Usurper Bush.

He's a tool of big oil, small minds. He's a scarily devout Jesus-freak Christian and
the dupe of Saudi Wahhabist puppetmasters. He led the country to war on bizarre and
fabricated assumptions -- sure, Clinton made Iraqi regime change standard American
policy, but that was just a scarecrow to stick in the field. Plus, George W. Bush is
Satan! Just look at the cover of Jim Hightower's book, where the author draws devil
horns and scribbles a mustache and goatee on a Bush poster. Bush isn't just wrong.
He's bad. Super-extra evil. Get it? Get it? Oh, and buy this book.

You decline the opportunity. You wander over to periodicals and flip open the current
Esquire. There's a story on stem-cell research. The author's subtitle: "How the
president is trying to kill my daughter."

Yes, of course, you think. (How weary your inner voice sounds.) That's precisely what
he is trying to do. That is the president's specific objective in life: Kill sick
people. It makes him happy. Every night he puts his cloven hooves up on the desk and
thinks of the people he's offed today. Ahh. Life is good.

You put the magazine away. The bookstore almost feels like enemy territory, or perhaps
the embassy of some neutral but vaguely brackish nation. Do you belong? You don't hate
Bush. You may not love him, but your marrow doesn't bubble at the thought of his name.

Do you feel somewhat estranged when you enter a bookstore? Sudden Bush Hatred Fatigue
Syndrome.

Of course, not everyone hates Bush.

One can understand why Southerners like him, since they're all two-toothed crackers
with gun racks and Klan sheets neatly folded in the trunk in case they drive by a good
ol'-fashioned flaming cross. Right?

It's harder to understand why putatively normal people like him. These creatures are
frankly incomprehensible to any right-thinking person. Maybe they're just so full of
Fox News and Rush Limbaugh they don't understand that their drinking water is now
composed entirely of arsenic, or that we have completely squandered the goodwill of
several hundred chain-smoking French intellectuals.

But ponder for a moment those who neither love Bush nor loathe him. Consider how that
stack of anti-Bush books looks to them, how tired they feel when Will Smith pops up in
the German press insisting that Bush lied. How weary they feel when Bruce Springsteen
-- the Boss! -- joins a musical caravan to cross the nation and warn against the
looming horror of another Bush term. "Gee, Bruce can both sing and strum a guitar. He
must know something I don't."

It's hard to tell how SBHFS will affect the vote. This group could go either way.

They could so weary of the incessant hysteria that they'll be willing to reward the
frothers, if only to shut them up. If I vote for John Kerry, will you be happy? Will
that do it?

The answer would be Yes! That'll do it!

Well, that, and nationalized health care, tax hikes on small businesses, the Kyoto
treaty, fealty to the United Nations, shipping nuclear fuel to the Iranians to make
them act nice, leaving Iraq ASAP and ushering in what Kerry calls a more "sensitive"
war on terrorism. (We will use marshmallow bullets, perhaps.) All that plus vast
federally funded embryo farms, and they'll be happy. For a while. Then we'll have to
do something about that "In God We Trust" nonsense on the coins.

On the other hand, SBHFS sufferers might hope that a vote for Bush would cap the
geyser for good. His foes have said all they can say; could they possibly hate him any
more?

Of course they could. If Bush takes out Iranian nuclear bomb facilities before the
election, it'll be good for another 50 books. Now do you see how evil he is? First
Iraq, then Iran -- good Lord, is no one safe?

[RollTideFan] Comings and goings of Iron Bowl coaches

2004-08-11 Thread M Laborde
I NEED BAMA FOOTBALL NOW!!!

---
http://www.tcpalm.com/tcp/college_sports/article/0,1651,TCP_1055_3103326,00.html

Comings and goings of Iron Bowl coaches By SCOTT ADAMSON August 11, 2004

When Alabama's Mike DuBose era came to an unceremonious end against Auburn in 2000, it
left the coach with a 2-2 career record against the Auburn Tigers - losing both his
inaugural and final contests against the Tigers. Dennis Franchione was victorious in
his first "uncivil war" and lost the last.

Tommy Tuberville's first Iron Bowl was a 28-17 loss, and since then the Tiger boss is
3-2 in the battle for braggin' rights.

For some reason - don't know whether it's the cough syrup or just boredom - I started
thinking about how coaches have fared in their first and last Iron Bowls. Mike Shula,
of course, started off with a 28-23 setback, but a coach coming up short in both his
debut and farewell Alabama-Auburn showdowns is nothing unusual.

History shows that coaches about to leave - or be fired - are 2-11 in their last
Alabama-Auburn game. As for those making their debuts in the series, Auburn coaches
sport a 6-6-1 mark in their initial contests against their arch rivals, while Bama
bosses are 4-10. Six of the last seven head coaches at the Capstone came away losers
in their first encounter with Auburn (I'm not including Mike Price and his 0-0
record), while the same number of AU coaches are 1-4 in their debuts.

Since July is here and pining for college football has officially begun, let's relive
some famous Iron Bowl comings and goings, shall we?

Terry Bowden's final Iron Bowl came in 1997, and a bungled call by the Tide - one that
led to a fumble - allowed the Tigers to kick a late field goal and escape with an
18-17 victory at Jordan-Hare Stadium. AU finished the season 10-3 and played for the
SEC crown, so there was no reason to think Bowden wouldn't be back in 1998 to try and
up his record to 4-2 against Bama.

However Bowden and company started off the following season 1-5, and the coach quit
prior to the Tigers' game with Louisiana Tech. Bill Oliver took over from there, and
his one and only Iron Bowl as head coach ended with a 31-17 loss at Legion Field.

Gene Stallings announced his retirement after Alabama's 24-23 victory over Auburn in
1996, helping the tall Texan exit the series a winner. While prowling the sidelines
for seven Alabama-Auburn tilts, Stallings finished with a 5-2 worksheet against his
school's biggest rival, including a 16-7 win in his first season in 1990.

Pat Dye's last Iron Bowl came in 1992. Not only were the Tigers in the midst of a .500
season, the cloud of an NCAA investigation hovered over the program. But all that
paled in comparison to the opposition.

Alabama was undefeated going into the game, won it 17-0, and went on to claim the
school's 12th national championship with a 34-13 rout of Miami in the Sugar Bowl.

For his career Dye was 6-6 against Alabama, including a four-year winning streak from
1986 through 1989. Following form, he was a loser in both his first and last
Alabama-Auburn contests.

Another odd farewell came in 1989, when Bill Curry brought his undefeated and No.
2-ranked Tide to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the first time in history. Alabama had
already wrapped up a share of the SEC crown, and a win would set up a title showdown
with Miami in the Sugar Bowl.

But the Tigers used their talents - and stadium - to full advantage, overcoming a
halftime deficit and going on to log an historic 30-20 win over Bama. Curry, who was
winless against AU while at Alabama and Georgia Tech, decided to leave Tuscaloosa at
the end of the year and accept a job at Kentucky.

While guiding the Wildcats, he still never beat the Tigers.

Ray Perkins opted to leave Alabama to accept a big money offer from the NFL's Tampa
Bay Buccaneers in 1986. His final season in Tuscaloosa was a solid 10-3 campaign, but
Auburn was able to pull out a 21-17 win over the Tide to give Perkins a 2-2 mark in
the Iron Bowl - and yes, he lost the first and last ones he coached.

Paul "Bear" Bryant capped off his historic career with a 23-22 loss to Auburn, but in
25 years at Tuscaloosa he got the better of his rival, winning 19 of 25 games,
including nine straight from 1973 to 1981. Bryant's last Iron Bowl loss happened to be
Dye's first Iron Bowl win, and Bryant came up short in his first one, 14-8 in 1958.

Doug Barfield's brief head coaching career at AU left him winless in the series, and
his final loss was a 34-18 setback to the Tide.

Ralph "Shug" Jordan's career-ending battle with Bryant came in 1975, with Alabama
taking a 28-0 victory. In a half-century on The Plains, Jordan was 9-16 in the Iron
Bowl and 0-1 in his 1951 debut.

J. B. "Ears" Whitworth had the lowest winning percentage of any Alabama coach, and
wound up 0-3 against Auburn. His 40-0 loss in 1957 was his last

[RollTideFan] Gallion says Fulmer subpoena will be served

2004-08-11 Thread M Laborde

Gallion says Fulmer subpoena will be served
Wednesday, August 04, 2004
MIKE PERRIN
News staff writer

Attorney Thomas Gallion says a setback in a jurisdictional ruling Monday in Tuscaloosa
won't stop the less-than-civil war that's raging with Tennessee football coach Phillip
Fulmer.

Gallion said Tuesday that he has lawyers in the Volunteer State willing to seek a
subpoena on Fulmer, compelling him to give a deposition in the Kenny Smith lawsuit.

"I've been on the phone all day and I've obtained one, maybe two, very good lawyers in
Tennessee to take the Kenny Smith case," Gallion said. "We're going to serve (Fulmer).
We've found a way to serve him for his deposition, and we've got lawyers to re-file
the case if our clients decide to move forward in Tennessee."

Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court Judge Scott Donaldson dismissed the lawsuit filed by
Smith, a former University of Tennessee football player and a one-time Alabama
recruit, and his parents. Donaldson ruled that the Alabama courts do not have
jurisdiction because the plaintiffs live in Tennessee and all but one of the
defendants live outside Alabama. That includes Fulmer.

Donaldson did not rule on the merits of the lawsuit.

Smith, his father, Kenneth, and his mother, Vicki Smith Dagnan, have not yet decided
whether to re-file the case in Tennessee. The defamation suit was spawned by Fulmer's
statements, reported in NCAA documents, that Smith's mother had an extramarital affair
with an Alabama assistant coach.

Gallion again challenged Fulmer to tell the truth concerning his involvement in the
NCAA investigation of Memphis prep standout Albert Means that led to the University of
Alabama being placed on probation.

Gallion is one of three attorneys of record in a $60 million lawsuit filed by fired
assistant coaches Ronnie Cottrell and Ivy Williams against the NCAA. Cottrell and
Williams were part of Mike DuBose's staff that was released following a 3-8 season in
2000.

Fulmer is not a defendant in the Cottrell-Williams suit, but Gallion has been
attempting to get his deposition in that case concerning information he gave to
investigator Richard Johanningmeier, who is a defendant.

There is some disagreement over what information Gallion could pursue in a deposition
from Fulmer taken as part of the Smith lawsuit. Several lawyers said Fulmer could
refuse to answer anything not directly related to the Smith lawsuit.

But, Gallion said, "if I get him under oath, he's history."

"I've got four boxes of documents on him - all the way from Linda Bensel-Meyers to Tee
Martin to Jamie Naughright," the Montgomery attorney said, referring to individuals
involved in recent complaints of athletic or academic improprieties at Tennessee. "His
deposition will take me two days, from sunup to sundown."

Price embraces UTEP, puts Alabama scandal behind him
JOHN McFARLAND
Associated Press

EL PASO, Texas - The view from Texas-El Paso coach Mike Price's office high above the
Sun Bowl depends on perspective.

The casual observer sees the site of some of the most pathetic football of the past
three decades, an often deserted desert stadium overshadowed by scraggly hills.

But Price sees untapped potential in a 51,500-seat stadium and scenic athletic complex
wedged into the foothills of the Franklin Mountains. He sees an eager fan base in the
historic city of 700,000 just across the Rio Grande from Mexico.

And at 58, he sees perhaps a last shot at redemption after losing a $10 million job at
Alabama following a night involving alcohol, strippers and few other confirmed details.

"I feel real lucky," said Price, a former national coach of the year who was hired in
December. "This has been a really humbling experience."

When Price leads the Miners onto the field for the first time Sept. 2 at Arizona
State, he'll officially join the small fraternity of coaches trying to make good after
off-the-field embarrassments.

George O'Leary begins anew at Central Florida, his first head coaching job since Notre
Dame fired him in 2001 because of a trumped up resume. Gary Barnett is back in
Colorado following a suspension for comments about women who accused players of rape.

Price may have the toughest job of them all.

He was 83-78 with five bowl appearances in 14 seasons at Washington State. At UTEP, he
leads a program with just one winning season in the last 15. The Miners have just six
wins in the past three years and lost eight times last season by 28 or more points.

But Price gives UTEP fans hope.

"I've changed my mind on him," said Tony Stafford, an English professor and one of the
few people on campus who raised concerns about hiring Price. "Since he's gotten here,
I've come to see the kind of person he is. He's a guy who made a terrible mistake, but
I think he's sorry for it."

Ticket sales are up, and optimism is back for the first time in years at a school that
still clings to the memory of the 1966 NCAA basketball championship when it was still
called Texas Western.

"There's a buzz that I haven't seen since I've been here," said UTEP president Diana
Natalicio.

Price brought similar excitement to Alabama last year.

But he was fired after just four months, before coaching a game or signing his
contract. Alabama's president cited drunken behavior after Price's highly publicized
outing at a Florida strip joint in April 2003. Sports Illustrated reported that Price
got drunk that night and had "aggressive" sex with strippers.

Price's $20 million libel and slander lawsuit is pending against the publisher of the
magazine, which stands behind its story. He admits drinking too much, returning to his
hotel room with a woman, then passing out and waking up with all his clothes on.

"Nothing that was in the article happened," Price said. "It was just a bunch of
innuendos. That night there were poor decisions on my part, but nothing like what was
reported. There was no sexual activity with women."

Price's football future was in doubt a year ago. He was not a head coach last season
for the first time in 23 years, and his prospects didn't look good. He was quickly and
publicly rejected after seeking the Arizona job.

But UTEP, about as far from the spotlight as a Division I-A team can be, was
interested.

Natalicio and athletic director Bob Stull liked Price but were cautious. They reviewed
incident reports, called other schools and performed other "due diligence" Stull
wouldn't specify.

"It's one of those life-changing experiences where you either learn from it or you'll
make the same mistake again, and I felt confident he'd learn from it," Natalicio said.
"We got a coach of Mike Price's caliber, and he to get a chance to redeem himself. ...
And so everybody won."

Some Miners players said they didn't understand the fuss over Price's indiscretion.

"All that talk about him and his past didn't faze me one bit, and it shouldn't. It has
nothing to do with football," receiver Chris Marrow said.

Price says he feels "reborn" at UTEP, but realizes how far he fell.

"I went to the Rose Bowl (with WSU), stayed in a Beverly Hills suite as nice as you
can get, took limos everywhere," he said. "At Alabama, I had drivers and Lear jets.
... Then, coming here to El Paso, I drove a pickup truck with two dogs. So it's been a
humbling experience to say the least."

Even sharing the WAC title in 2000 didn't do much to lift UTEP's terrible tradition.
It was just the school's third winning season since 1970. During that span, the Miners
have won two or fewer games 21 times.

The first step to fixing the losing mentality, Price said, is discipline.

"I can't make them taller. I can't make them a lot faster. But I can make them more
