Thanks for the report. I'm guessing it is some kind of power or
dynamic ip issue. I might be able to look into it tomorrow.

One of John Palmierri's comments on the main ticket (
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/11881) has links to both a
source tarball with all fixes included and a prebuilt binary that was
built on Lion + XCode 4.x. He writes:

"From sage -bdist:
http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/palmieri/misc/sage-4.8.alpha0-x86_64-Darwin.dmg

 From sage -sdist:
http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/palmieri/misc/sage-4.8.alpha1-trac11881.tar.";

If you are building from source, I think you have to set the SAGE_PORT
environment variable, as explained in the error message that stops the
build (I think).

2011-11-13 Thread john.hoebing
I've reviewed those two tickets and I see some
discussion about the combo of Lion/Xcode4 but
I don't see a pointer to either a tar ball or patches
to get an alpha 4.8 sage that will (start to) build
on OS 10.7.x.

My build system is a new mac mini with
Lion/Xcode4 installed by default, and I'm not
going to try to regress to Xcode3. If someone
can help me get a sage alpha that doesn't
complain about X4 then I'll start helping to debug.

While Mike et al. are at it, Juanjo is in the process of getting ready
to release (yes, I know that means "not today") a different ECL that
will deal with the Cygwin issue, so you might want to see if he has a
pre-release version for this. Just throwing it out there

I think he dealth with the scipy one.Building ECL (lisp!) is the
current remaining blocker.

If you like fixing subtle issues involving building compilers, give it
a shot by logging into sqrt5.cs.washington.edu. :-)

Quick report -- Mike Hansen started working on this.

So far he has fixed the problems with readline and BoehmGC, and he
appears to have built *all* the rest of Sage on OS X 10.7 using XCode
4.1, except scipy and ECL/Maxima. And he reports "I don't think the
scipy one looks too hard."

For Mike, who got several versions of Sage working on Cygwin, this is
probably like a walk in the park in comparison.
