RE: [RCSE] Blind Nut Stripped
Title: RE: [RCSE] Blind Nut Stripped I've had similar issues with blind nuts either stripping or not being set at the proper angle. Last case was my Sharon, where the front nut was only 1/2 visible through the wing hole when the center and rear were in. I used a big soldering iron to melt the blind nut right out of the epoxy holding it in. Then, in my case, I enlarged the hole in the right direction and glued it back in. You might try the same to pop out the bad one and replace it. Don't know how that happened, I have been very careful when tightening the screws on the wing. My Shop Theory book tells me that an 8-36 SAE machine screw has a major diameter .010 larger than the diameter of the Metric screws that came with my Eraser. Has anybody had a similar problem and found an easy solution? I am thinking of tapping the blind nut to accept an 8-36 cap screw since the 4.0 metric cap screw does not engage correctly. Heli-Coil it. I had a similar problem with a moldie a few years back and this worked perfectly. Make sure to work slowly and carefully and use cutting oil to minimize the possibility of breaking the blind nut loose. Tom Mark Williams wrote: Help, the forward blind nut on my Eraser is stripped. Re: [RCSE] Blind Nut Stripped
I had the same problem. It looks like the blind nut is aluminum and the threads were slowly wearing away. Through further investigation the supplied screw was only engaging about half the threads. So I took the middle screw moved it to the front and purchased a 30mm to use in the middle. All seems to look good for now. I think a thread lubricant would be a good idea to help preserve the existing threads that are there.
