I wouldn't call v.5 a risky software but rather premature and fixing it takes time - teething problem as you said. I'm rather not afraid of having my data lost, however, I do not leave much space here to have it lost :) (daily backups). Loaded about 30% of my e-mails (18000 e-mails so far) into v5 and it's working not bad in standard mode (in OTFE Duplicates Removal are not not working). Of course there are issues but assuming that RIT is working on having it fixed they are IMO not something to give up TB! so far :) > If you need a stable email client, I recommend TB!v4. Note that v4 is an evolved program, and it is the best POP client in the world (I don't use IMAP, so I cannot comment on that). v5 is a completely new software, as it is written from scratch, and it therefore does have its teething problems. I know this is the beta list and people are donating their time and energy to a product for free, and the developers appear to be not listening to the paying users' urgent requests. But it is their decision whether to listen and implement, and it is your decision whether to donate your time to a commercial product. There is never a reason to get all upset. If you need a working email client (and are using POP), TB!v4 is the way to go. If you want to participate in testing a completely new program (albeit with the look-and-feel of TB!v4), test v5 but don't get upset - it's a new software and supposed to have teething problems. It should be called TB!new.v0.1 ;-) Personally, I currently depend on email for both my own company as well as my PhD studies, and I don't have a spare computer to test a risky software. If you need a stable email client, I recommend TB!v4. -- Cheers, Thomas. http://thomas.fernandez.hat-gar-keine-homepage.de/ Message reply created with The Bat! 4.2.44 under Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3 Current beta is 5.0.12.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Using it on x64 W7 and finding problems even with filtering on OTFE as well as a lack of support for non-native OS characters as well as lack of refiltering on Virtual Folders (at least on OTFE) ... (issues I wrote about through last week). Today's New Matters :) 1. Hang it today while recovering backup file - repeatable issue. 2. Importing messages from other clients (not writing here about EML but about scanning other client file and import) is at least not implemented properly. TB! moved my 6000 e-mails into default Inbox account ; all would be good BUT it was from different e-mail address and all got mixed...) - had to do exporting and importing manually through EML. For instance, EML import could have implemented scanning subdirectories as well instead of selecting each of them manually. However, I still have hope and I'm still willing to give it a chance (unless we're going to reach version 6.0.99 and there is still no filtering over OTFE nor non-native OS characters support). -- Best regards, RS The Bat! 5.0.8 Windows7 Professional (x64) Polish (SP1) OTFE Enabled ; so far only 3 POP3 accounts The Bat! 5.0.10 Windows7 Ultimate (x64) English (SP1) OTFE Enabled ; so far only 3 POP3 accounts Current beta is 5.0.12.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hi Gene, >>Weird how the same program can behave so differently on different platforms. > Let me paraphrase that a program that has REAL problems with its > installation process is going to have some pretty strange results from > computer to computer Today got onto another issue while trying to install TB! Had TB! install file sorted with other installators (ex: D:\! INSTALL\INTERNET\E-MAIL CLIENTS\ THE BAT\TB 5.0.8 Pro\thebat_pro_5-0-8.msi) Couldn't install from there. Had to copy it out of the structure to install (other programs were installing properly from there - checked). I agree. Could someone who is NOT using Courier please save the mail, zip it and PM it to me please. I'll then do some tests here and then log the bug with the courier developers. Raymund resent me the original post by Gene. I forwarded it to myself and received it correctly. To do this I modified my courier configuration. No Filters fix yet. Hardd to believe
If find it so hard to believe, that it has been almost two months since the dreaded release of v5 and there is still no fix for major basic functionally such as filters, virtual folders and hangs. Is it really too much to ask? I am begging, not shouting... PLEASE FIX THE FILTER ISSUES. (Yes, a known reported bug) Please fix the hangs. Every morning I have to restart TheBat as it is hung. Maybe TheBat doesn't have any new customers That would explain the lack of urgency to fix these issues. To be honest, I read these lists and I usually get a laugh out of people venting. I have never done that, however, I am so frustrated and disillusioned with this product and the RitLabs team that I felt it necessary to vent. Normal TB! database to OTFE - is it working?
Hi, I need to import data from Thunderbird to TB! (about 6GB all together), sort it into folders and remove duplicates. I could do all of it on OTFE except duplicates removal that is not working at all. Do you guys know if making a backup file from non encrypted TB! can be imported later on to OTFE? Can play with a TrueCrypt and TB! as I did it for Thunderbird for a while but not going to have TB! on it for rest of my life :) Hope that they can sort it out quite soon :) BTW, is there a limitation to database file for TB! ? It's gonna be about 3-4GB after it's compressed (Thunderbird compressed with 7ZIP is about 3GB). -- Best regards, RS The Bat! 5.0.8 Windows7 Professional (x64) Polish (SP1) OTFE Enabled ; so far only 3 POP3 accounts The Bat! 5.0.10 Windows7 Ultimate (x64) English (SP1) OTFE Enabled ; so far only 3 POP3 accounts Current beta is 5.0.12.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
