[Therion] Best caving tablet
I have a asus vivo tab/not 8 tablet, which I just find too big for cave surveying, which I feel will be a problem with the one below. I think that you need to be able to hold it on one hand while caving, which for me makes a 6inch tablet probably the biggest, but I have not got round to buying one as yet. The vivo although it has a wacom tablet built in, I am not very impressed with the accuracy, even after going through the 100+ point calibration, gone back to my dell axim, Andrew On 15/09/15 20:50, Rob Countess wrote: > http://ruggedpcreview.com/3_slates_xplore_xslate_b10.html > > I'm thinking of this: XSlate B10. [Therion] Arranging legends
Guess you all can tell I am trying to get a survey complete by the number of emails I am sending For anyone who is interested in what I am doing, the pdf if available at http://wotcc.org.uk/__Transfer/Reads.pdf and the raw data at http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/Burrington/Reads/ I am using the legend command to put text in different places and other pdfs to make up a complex final poster. Some thoughts/observations When using the normal map header 0 0 nw legend on/off works and turns the list of symbols on and off colour-legend thbook says colo[u]r-legend â turn on/off legend of map-fg colours when map-fg is set to altitude, scrap or map (M, A) but the map colours seem to remain in the legend? As soon as you use code tex-map \def\maplayout{ \legendbox{ } map-header and map-image get ignored, which is a bit of a pain, as everything has to then go through the \legendbox. My guess is there is a reason for this, but it would be better if the 2 map commands could still be used. I cannot find a way to insert the list of symbols \legendbox{110}{-200}{NW}{\the\legendcontent} Put the legend on with the scale bar, north arrow . map colours, but no list of symbols using legend on/all/off seems to make no difference. This is the one I could really do with a solution to, as I would like to have the list of symbols As \formattedlegend adds in the map colours, my feeling is that \insertlegend should put it in but have not got anywhere with \legendbox{150}{-230}{NW}{\iflegend\the\insertlegend\fi} \legendbox{150}{-230}{NW}{\iflegend\insertlegend\fi} \legendbox{150}{-230}{NW}{\insertlegend\} \legendbox{150}{-230}{NW}{\the\insertlegend} thanks in advance Andrew
[Therion] Therion on OSX 10.11 pre-release
Hi For the one that can not wait and want to install therion on the new 10.11 (El Capitan) pre-release. There is a few things that may fail 1. Permission problems with brew. Somehow permissions got changed on my install. The fix was sudo chown -R `whoami` /usr/local cd /usr/local git reset --hard origin/master brew update 2. You need Xcode 7 Beta. Download and install it. Then sudo xcode-select -switch /Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer/ sudo xcodebuild -license 3. Now you should be ready to install therion brew install therion Good luck Chris

FYI, you can use Andy from andyroid.net to emulate android on a PC if you want to try out topodroid. However, the emulator can't use Bluetooth. So you have to disable/deny Bluetooth and enter everything manually. Still a cheap way to try out the program. On Tue, Sep 15, 2015 at 2:43 AM -0700, "Martin Sluka" wrote: Me too. M. TopoDroid is able to calibrate DistoX. The calibration routine is identical with PocketTopo I think. If price is not a problem (and weight) there are Panasonic army grade tablets with Windows and digitizer screen. Hi, I`am using an old Asus 696 PDA with Wmobil 6 and of course pockettopo. It works very well. Once I have lost the original pencil in the cave and I couldn`t find it anymore. It was not so easy, but the surveying on that day was made with my fingernail âº. A replacement for the original was found quick and very cheap. BTW, I have now a second pencil in my small case and both have got a tiny hole for a thread. Other members have tried out some android apps. But as I have seen (2014) there was no app which was able to kalibrate/justify the DistoX. But that is not really a problem, I think. I have used a Dell Axim x51v PDA for my underground drawing and data collection since the original DistoX came out. Running PocketTopo on this Windows Mobile OS. I find it works well, waterproofed using a beach case (Aquapaq bags for total immersion waterproofing, or a cheap beach case for phone/PDA). The winning features for me are the replaceable battery (allowing larger batteries which can run the PDA all day) and low cost (2nd hand via eBay). [Therion] Best practice - orientation of original sketch?
+++ Bill Gee [2015-09-14 19:48 -0500]: > When you are drawing the sketch in the cave, is it normal to ALWAYS make north > the same direction on each sheet of paper? No - whatever fits on the paper best is generally best (although if surveying in one rarely knows how that will go unless you have a very joint-controlled cave). In practice I do almost always put North up (and 'up' up on elevations) as I don't know which way the cave is going to go for more than a couple of legs. > What is considered "best practice" in this regard? That is probably true with most drawing tools, including xtherion (which doesn't have a way of rotating the view to more easily read the writing, for example (SFAICS)). I made a typo. Pockettopo is simpler in programming. You just draw exactly what you want. Topodroid automates the drawing of dashes and tick marks and makes your drawing in the cave neater.
