Re: [Ubnt_users] MTU

2018-02-22 Thread David Jones
If it is a flow control problem you will likely see low download and high
upload (from the clients perspective). We had a few rockets and rocket AC's
that would have great upload for the customer but crap download. What we
had to do for this is have the netonix and the MT and the rockets have flow
control. To not affect backhaus and other things we separated it out on the
MT.

Yeah everything is on AIRcontrol. Just can figure it out.

At peak times I can run TCP Btest from PC through CPE to Router on Local tower2
and get 45-50 Meg. (10Mhz channel)

Btest from Router Tower2 to Router tower1 and get 200Meg. (AF5x link 250M
capacity Only 50-100M used).

Tower 1 Connected to GB fiber and can get 700Meg to Dist router at Core due to
traffic.

But from PC through all to Dist router I can only get 8 Mbps at night. During
the morning when traffic is low I can get 45Mbps. So has to be buffer, retry,
MTU, cpu, etc. but I cant pin point it. Ping times stay pretty stable. AMQ and
AMC really good on this AP, 90%+.

Giving some serious thought to Preseem.

I am trying to get every last drop out of our internet. Most towers have a
MikroTik Routing, Netonix doing POE and Switching, Fed by AF5x, and Rockets or
Prism for AP’s. Sometimes seeing some slow downs I cant account for.
Wondering if MTU or Flow control needs adjusted.

The MTU settings are as follows:
MikroTik MTU: 1500 L2 MTU: 1598 Flow Disabled
Netonix MTU: 1528 Both
AF5x Up to 9600 Auto Flow Disabled
Rocket MTU: 1500 Flow Disabled
Prism MTU: 1500 Flow Disabled

In your experience should any of these be adjusted?

Our CCR1072 pulls 2g out of 10g and doesn't break a sweat.

Re: [Ubnt_users] MTU

2018-02-19 Thread Travis Allen
Guys,
We have had a very similar problem recently with non Cloud Core mikrotik
routers. Nothing seemed wrong, but the router capacity to process packets was
maxed out even though the CPU showed only around 70-80% max. After replacing
the router with a CCR, everything was much better. I recommend upgrading the
router to a CCR and see what happens.

The MTU settings are as follows:

AF5x Up to 9600 Auto Flow Disabled

Rocket MTU: 1500 Flow Disabled

In your experience should any of these be adjusted?

If it was MTU related it would likely not be a “slowness” issue but more of a
on-off-on-off experience for the end user. Sounds interference or congestion
related to me. Too many connections in connection tracking tables? Broadcast
traffic?

I'll plug that Preseem is working really well for us to help find issues
exactly like you're talking about. It is more than monitoring and equipment
stats like AirControl. It actually gives you visibility into the customer
experience. I'd recommend doing their free 30-day trial. I promise you'll
want to keep it like we decided to.

2018-02-19 Thread J Portman
We have found, every time, without exception there are only a few causes:

* Not enough backhaul. :)

* Sector is heavily loaded.
* Customers with excessively weak signals pulling the sector down
* #1 INTERFERENCE. Gotta LOVE airmagic and airview on prism aps.

YMMV,

unless you are passing VLAN's MPLS/VPLS or PPPoE over the AP's everything
else looks fine.

Re: [Ubnt_users] MTU Size Changes Itself on Rocket M2

2016-08-19 Thread Scott Lambert
What's your PPPoE server? Yesterday afternoon I got a call from a tech at a
customer location. Yahoo main page loaded. The yahoo mail login page did not.
The customer's linksys router had lost the internet port a few years ago, so
every device was using the ubnt radio in router mode with pppoe, 1492 MTU.

I lowered the MTU on the tech's laptop and everything worked. A bit later I
noticed that the dynamic PPP MTU fixup rules on the MikroTik PPPoE server were
at the bottom of the list and not being reached. Moving those rules to
position 0 solved the customer's issues.

I suspect most consumer routers are better at dealing with PathMTU discovery
blackholes than Windows TCP/IP stack. That *may* be why we only had one
customer complaint. I'm not sure why AirOS didn't handle it, if that's the
case.

I'm not sure how the rules ended up out of order after months of correct
operation. I suspect it happened when I updated the mangle packet marking
rules via a script. But it could be a RouterOS 6.26 bug. I've not dived into
deeply enough to prove any theory. I probably won't bother if it doesn't
happen again. I have scheduled it to upgrade to 6.34.6 tonight.

2016-08-18 Thread Sam Morris
There is nothing in the event section of the AC2 server, nor is there
any indication of the MTU size getting changed in the radio's logs.
(There is an entry in the event log from when I changed it from 1492 ->
1500 bytes, but that's the only thing related to this.) (I checked
Saturday and Sunday's logs - nothing to indicate the MTU size was
changed.) I'm continuing to investigate - if anyone has another thought
I'd welcome it :)
