Re: LEADERSHIP and a ROADMAP
Im confused, but also fairly ignorant of the current structure. Hence I have a few questions about this debate. What are the primary functions of this group as it currently stands? What do other Ubuntu groups do that we dont? What do we want to do, that we currently cant do? Re: Mozilla Thunderbird transfer from 32 bit to 64 bit
I am using 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10 and I can tell you that the .mozilla-thunderbird directory exists in my users home profile. I cant imagine why it might not be compatible, but Im not really an expert on the subject either. Im happy to run some tests if you like, but I suspect it wont be a problem for you. I use it to connect to my gmail account with imap which does all my filtering, storage and contacts on the server so I didnt bother to copy my local profile. Re: Synaptic Package Manager query
According to the icon legend in the help menu, it means that the "Package is Supported", although Im not sure what that really means either. Re: Where can I find an online anti-virus that doesn't install on your PC?
Without admin access to the PC you cant upgrade the antivirus. Chances are that half of those free virus checkers are themselves virus ridden anyway. Try using an ubuntu cd and booting it into the live operating system. This will run the ubuntu operating system from the cd instead of the hard drive and avoid the need to use the installed copy of Windows. You might not be able to save anything, but you might be able to get internet access and try out a few applications that Ubuntu has to offer. Re: Modem Router
I dont know about the politics but my linksys WAG54g v3 works very well. I have had to reset all its settings once in 2 years and it otherwise functions normally and remains on all the time. I use it for wireless and wired connections to a variety of devices, and am able to configure port forwarding etc and all the usual things you do with a ADSL 2+ modem router. Re: Vmware on 64bit ubuntu
Thank you all for your suggestions. They have been helpful. It was great to know that this is possible, and I passed on your advice. My friend has initially decided to try out the free (beer) version of Vmware's ESXi server, because it looks easier to setup for a primarily windows user, and apparently has the functionality required. I did pass on your suggestions to try the open source equivalents, but he is familiar with VMware and not a big fan of the command line. Im not keen to push the issue, because I dont want to leave a bad taste for Ubuntu in the future if it dosent work out. I myself have tried VirtualBox and Xen with varying degrees of success. They were both ok to setup for a Linux guest but much harder to configure for a windows guest. Things have probably changed in the last 12 months though, and Ill give it another go when I get some new hardware. Vmware on 64bit ubuntu
Hi all, Can anyone tell me if its possible to run Vmware workstation on 64 bit Ubuntu using more than 4 gig of RAM? Sorry for the vagueness of the question, but Im doing some research for a friend who is currently a windows user but is considering 64 Ubuntu so that he can get better RAM usage to setup a virtual test environment. Re: Firefox crash when accessing ANZ internet banking
I can login OK, but Im using Feisty and I havent updated anything, including firefox, in a fair while. I have noticed that I cant use "Bpay view" on the anz website. It gives the bad ol' incompatible browser excuse. Commonwealth works fine though. You could change banks. I heard thats meant to be easy these days ?? ;) mike David Whyte wrote: > Hi All, > > I have found that when I try and access the internet banking site on > either of my Gutsy machines it causes firefox to crash.
