[Bug 83934] Re: 1280x1024 resolution on 1680x1050 monitor
Yes, I do still have my Dell 1680x1050 monitor. With the latest Feisty code (and after restarting the computer), I am still seeing exactly the same problem -- namely, when I go to 1680x1050 (with the help of 915resolution), the left and right edges of the 1680x1050 screen display are chopped off and I still see only 1280x1024. No change AT ALL from what I reported last week. The effect is as if the computer is trying to treat the screen as if it were 1680x1050, but the video card is still driving the monitor at 1280x1024, and portions of what is theoretically on the 1680x1050 screen -- specifically, the leftmost and rightmost 200-pixel-wide strips -- are not being shown on the monitor. The taskbar along the bottom edge of the display also does not show up. Stated another way (since this probably sounds very confusing), when I try to go to 1680x1050 mode, it's as if my screen is being overlaid by a mask that is only 1280x1024, and those portions of the 1680x1050 display which don't fit within that 1280x1024 mask are simply not being shown. -- 1280x1024 resolution on 1680x1050 monitor https://launchpad.net/bugs/83934 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No. I have a laptop with an NVidia GeForce 440 Go, and cube works great, as long as I manually set desktops to 1 and hsize to 4 via gconf. So, PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the real issue, at least for me, was that the gconf values were not being modified correctly. [Bug 97675] Re: ubuntu 6.10 installer crashed
If you have more than one DIMM, it is always worth testing them individually to pin-point the bad DIMM. When removing DIMMs or testing them individually make sure you observe any motherboard restrictions. Normally if you have more than one DIMM on a channel they must be matched, and if you're testing a single DIMM, there is often a recommended slot to put it. If or once you've identified the offending DIMM, try to reinstall. -- ubuntu 6.10 installer crashed https://launchpad.net/bugs/97675 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 96745] Re: nautilus does not display confirmation dialog when you press delete to delete a file
daniel: yes, if I send it to the trash, then do empty trash, I get a confirmation dialog. I think that was the bit I was missing. I also have Include a delete command that bypasses trash turned on, and was assuming that pressing the delete key would actually delete the file, not just send it to the trash. turns out I need to shift-delete to actually delete the file, and in that case, I get a confirmation dialog. I'm for withdrawing this bug. it would be nice if I could disable the trash functionality entirely, so that delete would actually delete, but that's an upstream issue, and properly a feature request rather than a bug. -- nautilus does not display confirmation dialog when you press delete to delete a file https://launchpad.net/bugs/96745 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 98654] File name disppears in Nautilus Save As ... Dialog
Public bug reported: It is a weird bug with Save As ... dialog of nautilus, affecting apps like gedit, firefox etc. I'll try my best to describe it clearly. In case I didn't , there is a screencast showing this issue attached. It happens when you save a file. Normally no matter how you changed the destination directory you want to save that file, the file name field should remain untouched. But now in Feisty, when you are switching between some special directories, the file name will suddenly disappear. I've not completely figured out what kind of directories will trigger the problem and how special they are. Seems the directory should contain one or several single files of a special type. [Bug 89786] Re: Desktop-effect does not enable cube
o_O? I was replying to zeddock. He said that he had problems with the NVidia driver. The current bug is a gconf/compiz issue and has nothing to do with the driver. I merely pointed that out to zeddock. You should note that this is the original bug for a duplicate that You (Kristian) reported, and when I'm replying to certain statements here I'm not necessarily talking to You. ;) If You don't have any problems with the NVidia driver, then that's perfectly fine. zeddock has, and he should talk about it in another bug, not this one. -- Desktop-effect does not enable cube https://launchpad.net/bugs/89786 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 96480] Re: Kernel 2.6.20-13 acpi bug
I have the same problem running feisty x86_64 on a Mac Pro. 2.6.20-13.21 fails with a similar dmesg log. When I boot this kernel and run gnome, I get Failed to initialize HAL. Networking fails, and Suspend and Hibernate are unavailable from the Quit dialog. Blacklisting sbs fixes the HAL, network and Suspend/Hibernate problems, but the kernel oops is still in the dmesg log (attached). When sbs is blacklisted, running 'strace modprobe sbs' freezes at read(4, 8448 1 asus_acpi, Live 0xfff..., 1024) = 1024 \n nanosleep({0, 1}' None of these problems occur with 2.6.20-12.20. ** Attachment added: dmesg output, kernel 2.6.20-13.21, sbs blacklisted http://librarian.launchpad.net/7044399/dmesg -- Kernel 2.6.20-13 acpi bug https://launchpad.net/bugs/96480 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53330] Re: popcon website has dead links
Adding some additional commentary -- this could be a documentation or a policy issue, or both. This is a follow-up to a thread on the ubuntu- users email list (beginning 3/28/2007 titled popularity-contest) where people expressed concern about privacy and security in this package. A poster to the list pointed out the issues in Debian's popularity- contest have been very well described: see http://popcon.debian.org/ which has working faq and readme links to http://popcon.debian.org/README and http://popcon.debian.org/FAQ The package (and resulting data) might be used more if it were thoroughly described on Ubuntu official web sites and documentation. -- popcon website has dead links https://launchpad.net/bugs/53330 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
