Announcing Project Unity L10N
Hi translators, We all know about Unity, the project that is changing the way we interact with our computer by bringing a consistent user experience and a solid, elegant design for desktop and netbook users. We want to make sure Unity is for everyone, and one of the key aspects to make it possible is that it is available in everyone's language. Unity is already available in more than 60 languages [1], and can be translated into almost any other. Unity is also Free Software, which means it is in your own hands to make it happen. So, if your language is not in that list, how can you translate Unity? * If you are new to translations, you might want to read the Ubuntu Translations Quickstart Guide [2] * Next thing you can do is go to the Unity translations page [3] and start translating online right away. * You can then do the same with the Applications [4] and Files [5] places and translate them as well. * That's it! You'll find that contributing to Ubuntu by translating it is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways you can start If you've got any questions, you can contact the translations team in whichever way you prefer [6] We've got about 150 Ubuntu translation teams, and I'm pretty sure we can make that by the time Ubuntu Natty Narwhal is released there is a translation from each one of these teams. Hence, I'm proud to announce the Unity L10N project, stay tuned for more updates and join the translation party! In my 2nd response to the thread Start 2 functions of apps at same point of time of August 22nd 2010 on this list I explain in detail how my setup works, combining the three apps mentioned above. Take care --- Verdajn brakumojn el la plej verda loko de la tuta mondo, Sammondane, Ĥod 2010/12/20 Miranda Pennington mirnan...@gmail.com I am wondering if some people could offer me advice on how to go about recording/creating some pop music with vocals. My boyfriend and I used to use Sony Acid for making our humor music, but I like using Ubuntu for all my other computing needs, so I'd like to use it for making music too. Typically, what we would do is create a rhythm track and then he improvises vocals and lyrics while I play the keyboards. After about ten minutes of noodling around while recording, I take the vocals and midi data, chop it up, organize it into a song, assign synth sounds to the midi data, process the vocals, and record any additional instrumentation it needs to flesh it out. I know that I want to use Hydrogen, auto talent, sound fonts, synths, and effects plug ins, but I'm not sure what the best sequencer or DAW would be to use to for recording or mixing, or how to go about pulling everything together. Do I have to use Ladish with a sequencer and a DAW and route everything together, or can I do most of this inside of one program? I'm thinking qtractor looks like the easiest to get a handle on, but the lack of envelope automation for fx, panning, and volume is sort of holding me back from using it. I use those a lot and I don't know how I would get along without them. I also need to be able to chop up the vocals and move the parts around fairly quickly. Also, I need to be able to save sessions so I can work on something here and there. I've seen that Ardour will be coming out with midi support in the future, so should I just wait to use Linux for what I want to do until it comes out? Would Muse be able to do what I want? I read somewhere that envelope automation is available in muse, but I haven't been able to find any info on how to use it. I'm guessing rosegarden could do all of this, but it looks difficult to use. Maybe that's unfair assumption though. I'm not sure. I don't mean to sound picky, but the interface on rosegarden looks very difficult t navigate to my eyes. I've searched on the web for comprehensive tuts, but I'm not finding much on my own. If anyone would be willing to blog a tut on how they put together their music, I would be forever grateful. Even if your music is totally different, just seeing how someone else goes about setting everything up to make a song from start to finish would be really helpful for me and anyone else who wants to get into Linux audio production and doesn't know where to start. Also, if anyone has some advice on how to get the Linux Sampler up and running with the piano library on Ubuntu, that would help me out. I know I need the Linux sampler back end along with jsampler or fantasia, but I haven't had any luck getting to it to work. I also play piano and do my own singer songwriter stuff. I would like to be able to record piano as midi data and use Linux Sampler for the piano sound. Since it's solo piano, it has to sound decent. How do I record it along with vocals? [Bug 693020] Re: Closing KVM window requires clicking the X twice
More details: this is xubuntu x86-64. If I just launch kvm and immediately kill it, it exits with one click on the X. But if I clock on the display area to let KVM do a mouse grab and then alt-escape out of the mouse grab, afterwards the KVM window ignores the first click on the X. (Even if I switch focus to another window and switch focus back in between doing so, the first click on the X is always ignored after KVM's done a mouse grab.) In fact, if I grab-and-escape, the click the X once, and then grab and escape again, it's back to ignoring the first click on the X and thus needing two clicks on the X to kill the window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/693020 Title: Closing KVM window requires clicking the X twice -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 687275] Re: Fix graceful action in init script when mod_chroot is enabled
That would be nice to have as a built-in functionality, but apparently it differs from mod_chroot. I have added ChrootDir /var/www to /etc/apache2/conf.d/my_defaults, but it seems like the fastcgi processes now get started outside of the chroot / before Apache chroots: I am getting the following error (only /var/www/usr/lib/libc-client.so.2007e exists, not /usr/lib/libc-client.so.2007e): /var/www/bin/php4-fcgi: error while loading shared libraries: libc-client.so.2007e: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Apart from that there appears to be another problem, fastcgi processes (PHP) return Service Temporarily Unavailable, while requests to normal resources (image) work fine. This is likely also related to the order in which chrooting and spawning the fastcgi processes happens. I just happen to have an LTSP server installed (Lucid 32bit), which uses tftpd-hpa for thin client bootup, and it works just fine. r...@ifptr-ltsp:/var/log# apt-cache policy tftpd-hpa tftpd-hpa: Installed: 5.0-11ubuntu2 Candidate: 5.0-11ubuntu2 Version table: *** 5.0-11ubuntu2 0 500 http://ro.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What I did: - fired up the ltsp server - tail -f /var/log/syslog |grep tftp - fired up a thin client, saw this in the logs: Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2239]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2239]: tftp: client does not accept options Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2240]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2241]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/3a9a0138-979c-d611-acb4-7924b73424e4 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2242]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/01-00-0b-cd-de-d1-cb Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2243]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C0A80001 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2244]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C0A8000 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2245]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C0A800 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2246]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C0A80 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2247]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C0A8 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2248]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C0A Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2249]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C0 Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2250]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/C Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2251]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default Dec 21 21:04:29 localhost in.tftpd[2252]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/vmlinuz Dec 21 21:04:30 localhost in.tftpd[2253]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386/initrd.img Dec 21 21:04:36 localhost in.tftpd[2256]: RRQ from 192.168.0.1 filename /ltsp/i386//lts.conf - ran logrotate (forced, because /etc/cron.daily/logrotate doesn't necessarily rotate the syslog if you run it manually): /usr/sbin/logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.conf - check /var/log/syslog* that indeed it was rotated - re-ran tail -f /var/log/syslog (to watch the new syslog file and NOT syslog.1) - rebooted the thin client, saw the exact same thing logged to syslog (in.tftpd was running all this time, I didn't restart it) r...@ifptr-ltsp:/var/log# apt-cache policy rsyslog rsyslog: Installed: 4.2.0-2ubuntu8.1 Candidate: 4.2.0-2ubuntu8.1 What am I doing wrong? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to tftp-hpa in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/683955 Title: [SRU] Please upgrade tftpd-hpa in lucid to at least 5.0-14 -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
