Hi, On Sun, Jul 12, 2009 at 5:45 PM, Pierre Buylemongolito404+ubuntu...@gmail.com wrote: I understand the issue highlighted by Jean's mail concerning the decision making process of Ubuntu-be. As I earlier tried to told him, there is no formal decision process in Ubuntu-be because we are not a formal organozation. And yes, this can be slow down things and be conterproductive. I've no idea of how it can be solved. I think it can be worked around with self-organization of small, task focused groups. The only Ubuntu-be wide action that have to be taken are money spending. For this, we could formalize voting. Something like: when a decision has to be made, a vote is called. Every member of the Ubuntu-be team (on Launchpad) registered before the call has one voice. Votes are open for a limited period of time. After the voting period, if the majority of the voters have said 'yes', the money can be spend. I really like this idea, I think this is the most important process that needs to be formalised! [Good idea Pierre!] The language excuse is the lamest I ever heard. I you really think the language is the issue, please go create Ubuntu-vla. Go create your own single language LoCo Team. Go to the LoCo council and explain why you think it is a good think and respect the Ubuntu spirit. Really, please do it. Leave us do the multi-language way. We will be pleased to announce for your events on our mailing list and website. We will be happy to publicize your realizations too. Unlike our beloved country, we don't have an old legacy keeping us together. I really think this would be stupid, but clearly you disagree. Since we cannot find a consensus, we better split up. And since we are Ubuntu-be, your are to ones who need to leave. I couldn't agree more :). [humor hat onWe are small enough as it is, if anybody wants to divide this group into Flamish/Brabanders/the one with hats on/men-women, please do.humor hat off] Communicating in English has nothing to do with keeping/loosing your cultural identity, it is what it is: communicating with a group of people that have a different native language to do some good for ubuntu. Re: [Ubuntu-be] Proposal for printing new posters and flyers for Ubuntu-be
I actually second the motivation of Mark. I agree it is a good price and that the posters draw attention, but then again spending 20 % of the available budget just to have even more posters doesn't seem right. Why not utilise the 800 first? On a second note: is it legal to advertise by printing posters mocking the competition(Microsoft windows lapop with chains on)? I can imagine a funny poster of Proximus showing a man trying to use his Base phone, but who is unable to get a connection? [ok, Base got better :-] Or a Mercedes poster showing a Daihatsu with engine trouble? If I'm correct it only recently got legal to compare prices in a commercial. I think you get my point :). Third: (and I don't mean this in a bad way, the posters are funny) when I talk to people about ubuntu I try to point out the important advantages (free, open, legal, central application inventory, central upgrades, security, ...), I don't try to mock Windows. So should we go that way with the posters? Best regards, Rob. Re: [Ubuntu-be] ReleaseActions - Volunteers needed
Hi Mark, The power issue could be resolved if I park my car in the parking lot, and then leave my car running while tapping energy from my car (the distance to the underground passage is about 10 meters I think, and I have the gear). The only thing I don't have is an ubuntu laptop with compiz [my work laptop is secured by pointsec, and I do not want to mess with it too much]. Kind regards, Rob. Re: [Ubuntu-be] ReleaseActions - Volunteers needed
Hi Francois, Ok, I will come with a projector, but I do not have a power supply. Anybody else has one? I also don't have a laptop with Ubuntu (and compiz) on it, so somebody should bring one [my desktop is too much work to bring along :-]. Also, do we burn some CD's up front? It's not on the wiki. But I can imagine people trying it a lot faster if they allready receive a cd for it and don't need to download the ISO (I remember that kotnet [the ISP most of the students use], has a very limited download limit, so they won't download it just for fun).
