[Bug 104553] Re: upgrade failed when fontconfig cache dirs are newer than system date

2007-09-12 Thread Daniel Burke
I believe that while this bug is a symptom of Bug #134074, fontconfig
should still be able to continue with fonts from the future. A
fontconfig guru would be better qualified than I to comment on this.

[Bug 134074] Re: Text based install writes files +GMT offset

2007-09-12 Thread Daniel Burke
While the listed bugs are symptoms of this bug, I do believe that fontconfig
should not fail for a reason as simple as files being in the future.
Perhaps a fontconfig guru would be better qualified to confirm that statement.

Having said that, I still think that it is prudent that fontconfig
complain of files from the future.

[Bug 139301] LIRCD starts up and dies right away

2007-09-12 Thread Sebastian Schack
Public bug reported:

Whenever I start the LIRC-Demon it dies after a split second for,
apparantly, no reason. This is also indicated by IRKICK which shows,
right after the start of LIRCD, that it is connected to the LIRC demon
and one second later it tells me that the link between the two has been
disconnected.

Installed packages are:
kdelirc_4%3a3.5.7-1ubuntu4_i386.deb
lirc_0.8.2-0ubuntu5_i386.deb
lirc-modules-source_0.8.2-0ubuntu5_all.deb

I normally report bugs using apport. However, apport doesn't seem to
recognize the dying of LIRCD so I had to do this manually.

Please tell me which outputs you need. Since this is reproduceable, I'll
be able and happy to provide them.

[Bug 139210] Re: ATI Radeon 9200 crashes with Gutsy driver

2007-09-12 Thread Michal Suchanek
Also dies within few minutes. It appears that the system is quite happy
except there are no updates to the on-screen picture nor can I use input
devices. But shutdown with power button works fine.

Also this driver does not do 1152x864. It is probably missing this
built-in mode at any usable frequency.

[Bug 88152] Re: nvidia-glx] Switch user/switch VT causes lockup with compiz/beryl/desktop-effects

2007-09-12 Thread Nico
Same problem here.

Login user 1,VT 1, with full desktop effects.

Fast user switch to user 2, VT 2, who has no effect.

Fast user switch to user 1, on VT 1 -> black screen with responding
mouse cursor only.

CTRL+ALT+FKEY for VT switch not operational

The only solution I have at the moment to come out of this is a system
reset. I hate doing those...

No password set for any user.

Up-to-date Gutsy from new install, nvidia-glx-new.

This used to work well on the same machine, with Feisty, manual nvidia
driver (9755 I believe) and git packages of compiz/fusion (Trevino).

This is a rather annoying bug that I consider a blocker either for the
Fast-User switching by default, or for the Desktop effect by default. I
do not understand its medium importance.

I saw the concept work, so there is a way to fix this (wishful
thinking?), now is the time before the beta cycle!

I am clearly willing to help with testing and any additional info
needed.

After I installed enigmail with

turned out that

[Bug 8629] Re: Evolution setup wizard does not fit in 800x600

i have a portrait screen and evolution does now NEARLY adapt to it (gutsy tribe

NEARLY - it does not take into account the amount of space on the left margin
where my panel sits.

the window is has the correct size for my screen, and accomodates even
the panels at the bottom, but not the one to the left.

i hope this is easy to fix now -- as most of the problem is gone.

thank you for the improvement!

[Bug 139299] block global shortcuts behavior wrong in feisty

2007-09-12 Thread weez
Public bug reported:

This mostly affects VNC client windows.

For each of the following paragraphs, the VNC server system is running
Fiesty.

In 6.10, I right click the title bar of my vncviewer window, select
Advanced -> Special Application Settings. Then I go to the Workarounds
tab, select Block Global Shortcuts and select Force. Now I can pass
through KDE specific shortcuts directly to the VNC desktop that the
vncviewer is connected to. Specifically, I can hold down left alt and
middle click to change the Z value of the window under the cursor.
Great.

In Fiesty, doing the exact same thing results in left alt + middle click
affecting the windows on the local KDE instance, instead of passing the
clicks through to the VNC desktop. This means my vncviewer window
disappears to the bottom of the stack when I click rather than affecting
the window on the VNC desktop I am working with.

Let me know if there are any other bits of information that would be
useful to know.

[Bug 133823] Re: prism javelin/xbow works out-of-box, but the module is not loaded by default

2007-09-12 Thread Brian Murray
Kees Cook and I ended up looking at this in some detail as we were
curious how kernel modules get automatically loaded and discovered that
while the driver can be manually loaded the specific PCI id that your
device has is listed in modules.pcimap but not in modules.alias. Kees
discovered that this was a bug in the driver itself and has sent a patch
to the driver's maintainer and Ubuntu's kernel team. I have attached it
to the bug report also. It should be fixed for Feisty.

[Bug 139102] Re: Firefox randomly crashes

2007-09-12 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you Johnathon for submitting this report.

Unfortunately this report lacks information we need to investigate it
further. Of course this is not your fault, but the file you attached to
your report doesn't provide useful information for us (we need the core
dump of the crash). For this reason, could you please try to obtain a
backtrace by following the instructions on [1], or upload the *full*
crash report that probably was generated during the crash and that
should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please disable all you third party extensions and try to reproduce the
crash. If you find a way to reproduce it please don't doubt to submit
it.

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 136933] Re: Bullet Proof X shows confusing message when X can't start

2007-09-12 Thread Mike MacCana
I think 'safe' is better than 'failsafe ' - the term 'failsafe' isn't
widely known. Also the error message needs to tell the user why there's
an error before anything else.

How about:

Your graphics hardware is not properly set up.

Click Configure to choose your monitor and graphics card, or click
Continue to use safe settings.

2007-09-12 Thread Peter Schwenke
Sorry. Looking at the datestamps I copied the second patch to the webserver but
not the recompiled packages.
I have since done a "clean" on my Feisty build to get some disk space. The

ltmodem, ATI or NVideo video.

Anyway, I'm rebuilding and will put the packages up tomorrow.

[Bug 44248] Re: gnome-btdownload unable to resume saving to directory

2007-09-12 Thread Conrad
Hi,

I cannot duplicate this bug. Gutsy with latest updates. AMD64.
1. After exiting btdownload and restarting it bu double-clicvking on .torrent
file
a dialog appears which asks if you want to restart session.
Clicking on restart session restarts torrent download where we left.
2. Selecting save elsewhere and then selecting dir where torrent is saved also
works.

But bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/66373 still is there.

Cheers,
Konrad

[Bug 136637] Re: apparmor reinitializes caps late in boot

2007-09-12 Thread jjohansen
Kees is right,

AppArmor composes capabilities, so as long as AppArmor is loaded
capabilities are being enforced, whether or not applications are
confined or unconfined. AppArmor's additional capability mediation that
is specified in profiles is applied after standard capability mediation
is applied.

The stacking of the capability module is fake in that AppArmor will
never call into it. Allowing capability to stack was done because suse
had many customers trying to load the capability module and having it
fail resulted in bug/support requests. It also has the benefit that
enabling/disabling AppArmor doesn't have to change the initscripts to
load capability.

[Bug 89746] Re: HP Pavilion dv6103eu laptop - all Ubuntu versions gets frozen during X startup until I specify "noapic" boot option

2007-09-12 Thread Jack McDowell
The computer boots with noapic, but the bcm43xx chipset does not show up and
irq7 (usb) becomes disabled... On a side note, the other options such as
"acpi=noirq," etc which have been previously mentioned didn't work either. I
hope someone can solve this, and if anyone would like me to test something I
would be more than willing to. The final release is just 1 month away and it
would be nice if this problem could be fixed... I would hate to have to give up
and go back to xp,

[Bug 139286] Pinnacle 310i remote not working at all

2007-09-12 Thread Timf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

My TV card Pinnacle 310i works fine as far as viewing DVB-t television.
I need to add saa7134-dvb into /etc/modules, place dvb-fe-tda10046.fw into
/lib/firmware/2.6.20-16-generic and then reboot, and the card is installed and
works fine.
I do sudo cat /proc/bus/input/devices and the remote is recognised and an
event# assigned.
I do cat /dev/input/event# with zero output from the remote. If I try with an
event# for the mouse or the keyboard, there is much output.
I have tried the various input tools Gerd Knorr, from LIRC people, etc
I have tried installing LIRC and lircd as per their instructions.
I have looked at the source for the input layer, and the source for the dvb.
I have tried this card on an ASUS mbrd, an Intel mbrd.
I have tried changing PCI slots.
In all cases, I point the remote control at the ir detector and - nothing.
Regards,
Timf
(My first bug report - I will attempt to attach dmesg.log, lspci-vvnn.log,
syslog.log uname-a.log version.log)

[Bug 139285] movie player kills network

2007-09-12 Thread martinbures
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I was listening to an .mp3 audio stream from di.fm. The stream
connected and played fine for 28 seconds. It then cut out but movie

reboot everything is fine.

[Bug 139282] Gnome Power Manager Suspends when computer is in Use

My laptop (a dell Latitude d620) will automatically suspend even when I

[Bug 78491] Re: network-manager insists on connecting to wireless network, even if wireless option is disabled

2007-09-12 Thread John McCain
I can also confirm this problem. You can disable wirless via network
manager, ifconfig down, and it will still pop up, get an
address, and hijack my routing and name servers.

ps -ax shows a dhclient3 process tied to eth1. If I kill this process
manually, the behavior stops. Is dhclient bringing the interface back
up without telling network manager?

[Bug 115242] Re: [apport] emacs-snapshot-gtk crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

2007-09-12 Thread Christoph
I should clarify: I have narrowed the issue down to emacs-snapshot-gtk.
emacs-snapshot-x works fine on both machines.

[Bug 26338] Re: Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords

2007-09-12 Thread teach2471
I also just downloaded wubi & installed ubuntu 7.04 onto my Windows XP
machine and have been using ubuntu for several days. Then thru a
terminal window, I used the command line & added some users via adduser.
I shutdown my Pc succesfully. The following day, I tried to logon to
ubuntu using my regular signon that I created upon installation(which is
also the same one that I had been using for several days), I now get,
Incorrect username or password. Any help would be appreciated.

[Bug 116326] Re: No audio INTEL HD audio - Realtek ALC268 codec - Toshiba A205-S4577

2007-09-12 Thread Mahdi
Hi,
tried 1.0.15rc1 and everything worked fine. Quality is much better, specially
for recording. No patches needed.

I know that the drivers should be enough, but i'm just trying the whole
thing for kicks. It's not all that difficult to make install libs,
firmware, utils and drivers if i have to make install drivers... and
that somehow less buggy, since testing is all done on releases...

Romano, what do you mean by "toshiba quirks"? Do you think 2.6.23 final
will support alc268 out of the box?

[Bug 139280] apparmor profiles fail to load

2007-09-12 Thread Mirco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apparmor

I installed apparmor and apparmor-utils on my gutsy-based desktop-system. The
kernel-module installed and loads properly, but I can't load any profiles what
makes apparmor a bit useless atm. "sudo apparmor_status" just gives me a 0 to
all values:
$ sudo apparmor_status
apparmor module is loaded.
0 profiles are loaded.
0 profiles are in enforce mode.
0 profiles are in complain mode.
0 processes have profiles defined.
0 processes are in enforce mode :
0 processes are in complain mode.
0 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined.

and in dmesg I found this:
[ 3201.788000] audit(1189650654.540:66): operation="profile_replace"
info="failed to unpack profile" name="/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf" pid=16929

restarting apparmor with "sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor restart" gives me this:
Reloading AppArmor profiles /sbin/apparmor_parser: Unable to replace
"/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf". Profile doesn't conform to protocol
Profile /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd failed to load
: Failed.

Loading profiles with "sudo aa-complain /etc/apparmor.d/*" or aa-enforce shows
no errors but the output of apparmor_status doesn't change. So I don't think
the profile is loaded.
The Installation of apparmor-profiles only makes the logs bigger by adding more
unloadable profiles but doesn't really change anything.
I found a similar report for suse at the opensuse buglist at
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2007-08/msg00203.html. Maybe this helps.

Ah, and my system is up to date. So I use apparmor-2.0.1+510.dfsg-
0ubuntu25.
