[Bug 672650] [NEW] two-finger scroll on Lenovo T410s should be available, but isn't

2010-11-08 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Hello. The option for 2-finger scrolling is greyed out in the gnome-
mouse-properties dialog under Ubuntu 10.10 on Lenovo T410s.

Yet doing the following:

xinput set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Two-Finger Scrolling" 1 0
xinput set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Two-Finger Pressure" 20

results in a perfectly working two-finger vertical scroll.
This should be a basic built-in function for the distribution on Lenovo's most
popular line.

Hm, I do not know whether htis is a feature request or a bug.

[Bug 620528] Re: mouse back button nautilus list

2010-11-08 Thread John Kuang
This annoying problem has around been since I've started using ubuntu
(gutsy), i.e. a LONG time. It is NOT device specific as I have
experienced this with many different mouses. I've been using a work
around to directly map the back button (alt_left) using xbindkeys. It
would be nice if I didnt have to though.

Oh, SerP6? I just thougt it's kind of typo, when I realized it is a
laptop model, sorry. Anyway it still may be interesting, especially
knowing what kind of CPU and GPU you have. Anyway it's not Dell or
Serval who "manufactures BIOSes"; they assemble and package them based
on components from their vendors.

[Bug 670397] Re: Exchange account messages not loading for all folders

2010-11-08 Thread Andrew
I have similar behavior. Evolution starts and infinitely shows "Checking
for new mail (100% complete) and "Refreshing folder 'personal/Inbox' (0%
complete)". If I have new email it will be shown in the list after some
time. But if I click at it Evolution shows "Retrieving message '...' (0%
complete)" that never finishes as well. When I try to close Evolution it
hangs.

[Bug 670793] Re: Ethernet device is automatically disabled in Ubuntu 10.10.

2010-11-08 Thread Book 'em Dano
Try downloading the driver for your NIC here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#2.
Download the tarball, extract it, and open the README file for
instructions on how to compile, insert and check if the module is
working. It will probably be easier to run the autorun.sh file, perform
chmod +x autorun.sh on the file first. Also you may have to remove the
existing module first, r8169, before loading the new module by executing
rmmod r8169.

[Bug 671662] Re: Can't open personal folders. Error "file not found". Can access person folders just by opening "Computer".

Well,it says "No such file or directory". I don't understand much from PCs.
But I don't understand why I can get to those folders by going to Computer and
then to the folders I want to view,if they don't exist.

[Bug 620549] Re: Shows incorrect mailbox, one of many, no choice.

2010-11-08 Thread heynnema
Hello Pedro,

How can this be marked invalid, when I still have this problem?

Indicator Applet is now version 0.4.6.
Evolution is now version 2.30.3.
Evolution Indicator plug-in still shows an empty configuration tab.
I still show a localhost mailbox, with a zero count, in the indicator display,
but my other POP mailboxes still don't show up at all.

Please advise.

[Bug 656631] Re: resume from suspend does not initialize the display on 2.6.35 kernel

2010-11-08 Thread mikeos
Jame Krug: i bet you must have a Dell Latitude E6410 with nVidia and
Intel Core i7 2.66GHz. Maybe the GPU does not matter. I spend over 3
weeks analysing the problem. The result is evident: it's not about
Ubuntu (in Windows, yes being desperate I installed Win7 on a different
HDD to test out, the problem is the same), it's not about Mainboard
(Dell replaced my MB), it's not about RAM type (I tested with different
modules of different sizes), not even about HDD (i tested with SSD and
classical HDD), not about PCI peripherals (i removed all removable PCI
peripherals), not about batttery model (I tried with a different models
- 6cell and 9cell). It's most probably about the BIOS bug affecting
Latitude E6410 with Core i7 620M 2.66Ghz (Dell replaced my CPU for the
same model with no improvement); probably a race condition during
frequency scaling (SpeedStep) on resume on batteries. Try disabling
SpeedStep in BIOS and the problem does not appear; however it is a very
unlucky solution. I'm trying to persuade Dell to give me a different
nearest model of Core i7 CPU, even though I should pay for the
difference in price. I expect that a different resulting CPU frequency
helps to avoid the problem. BIOS should resolve it, but who knows when
A06 comes out an if it would contain the fix. If one follows the
history of E6400 latop overheating issues, it took one year and 10 BIOS
revisions to mitigate the problem. I'm not sure whether the GPU is
involved in this strange race condition when resuming on batteries.
Please paste here your system specifications, especially CPU and GPU
specs.

[Bug 367774] Re: EDAC spam in dmesg, edac-utils shows no erros

2010-11-08 Thread rew
Just for documentation for others that might experience problems like
this.

I had similar problems, The EDAC module was falsely reporting errors in
my i3200 memory controller (I think it might have to do with the memory
controller).

I do have ECC memory installed.

I went into the BIOS and disabled "quick boot". I think this is the
relevant change I made there, but we also changed a few other settings.
Like "display full schreen logo" was changed to "disabled".

Now I don't get these errors anymore.

So: Possible workaround: disable quick boot in the bios.

[Bug 671560] Re: [USB-Audio - Logitech H555 Headset] Mixer path with "Speaker" only

2010-11-08 Thread David Henningsson
Just to summarise today's thoughts.

There is one output volume control named "Speaker".

We can either fix this in the driver or in PulseAudio.

Driver: We have a generic problem of that the names picked for mixer
controls are in general *not* compliant with the standard volume control
names as specified in linux/Documentation/alsa/ControlNames.txt. We can
either try to fix the generic problem, or create a quirk for these
devices that changes the name.

PulseAudio: We have a generic problem in that PA disables hardware volume
control if one of the mixer paths does not have a volume control. In this case,
analog-output does not pick up "speaker" as a volume control, whereas
"analog-output-speaker" does.
 * We can try to fix the generic problem by
   - fix the original problem and see what bugs we'll suffer from if we don't
unify has_volume
   - disabling the profiles without hw control instead of disabling hw volume
control.
...or we can create a quirk for this device by writing a PA profile set and a
matching udev rule.

One problem, five fixes to choose from. A difficult decision.

[Bug 178176] #CensuraChiapas porfavor leelo y reenvialo

2010-11-08 Thread Jose de Jesus Pascacio Castillejos
http://chiapatuit.net/

http://twitter.com/#search?q=CensuraChiapas

http://vinicioportela.blogspot.com/

[Bug 672572] Re: png in trash opens in firefox

2010-11-08 Thread tsg1zzn
Would you do me a favor and please read what I wrote before replying?

"Please check that default program that opens .png files is "Image Viewer"
command line being "eog" and not firefox."
I don't want to open the image in eye of gnome! I want to open it in gpicview.
Yes, "Image Viewer" (command line "gpicview") is set as the default action,
that's what I write in the FIRST SENTENCE of the bug report.

About selecting nautilus, I shouldn't be asked this in the first place.

Opening png files works fine everywhere but in the trash bin. The exact
same file in my home folder opens in gpicview, I move it to trash, and
nautilus tries to open it in firefox instead.

[Bug 650498] Re: Expansion: 'ẞ' LATIN CA PTIAL LETTER SHARP S (U+1E9E)

2010-11-08 Thread Bruno Maag
soc says: PS: Could we just leave out that ß-hating here? It has nothing
to do with that particular topic here?

I think it has very much to do with the topic at hand. It is about
quality. As much as some people argue that a specific cap eszett should
be designed we should equally consider the opposite view, not just
simply adhere because some bureaucrats have decided, in their infinite
wisdom, that it is now a good idea to have an uppercase version of a
glyph. If Galilei would have simply agreed to the churche's wisdom ships
would still fall off the edge of the world today. Unfortunately, we are
lumbered with the cap-eszett Unicode point and we eventually have to
fill it. That does not mean we should put a crap design into it.

I stand by my assertion that eszett is a ligature in the knowledge that
Tschichold and other typographers agree with me. In addition the meaning
of the words 'Busse' and 'Buße' or 'Masse/Maße' is not defined by the
s-sound but by the pronunciation of the preceeding vowel (short/long).
The preceeding vowel dictates the usage of eszett, except where the
eszett is at the end of a syllable (or have they changed that now?).

[Bug 448682] Re: Cannot stop couchdb using /etc/init.d/couchdb after package install

2010-11-08 Thread Mathias Gug
Some conversations with cjwatson on IRC lead to two potential fixes to
address the issue:

1. < cjwatson> mathiaz: I meant calling sigaction in the daemon itself

2. < cjwatson> or create a tiny C wrapper that does  struct sigaction sa;
  memset (&sa, 0, sizeof sa); sa.sa_handler = SIG_DFL;
  sigemptyset (&sa.sa_mask); sa.sa_flags = 0; sigaction
(SIGHUP, &sa, NULL); and then execs the program

It seems that option 1. may not be possible if erlang doesn't support
signals.

[Bug 571822] Re: Empathy allign RTL text as LTR text on messenger

An alternative course of action would be to give Telepathy messages a

Since I don't know how RTL languages work, I can't judge whether auto-
detection is enough or whether we need a flag. I'd prefer to use auto-
detection if we can, though.

[Bug 571822] Re: Empathy allign RTL text as LTR text on messenger

2010-11-08 Thread Simon McVittie
This was bounced from project to project and ended up in telepathy-spec
at .

However, I'm not sure whether this is actually relevant to telepathy-
spec, because I don't think the communication between Empathy and its
MSN backend should need to specify the text direction if it can be
detected automatically.

Is it meant to be possible to auto-detect alignment from the text of the
message? It seems to be, since if I copy "שרה" from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bi-directional_text and send it between my
XMPP accounts, the edit box displays it right-aligned (however, the
conversation history displays it left-aligned).

So, I think there are really three bugs here, of which we can't fix (B):

(A) For all protocols, Empathy should auto-detect whether the text
should be RTL, and if so, right-align the text in the conversation
history

(B) (not fixable by us!) MSN on Windows should auto-detect whether the
text should be RTL in the same way as (A), rather than relying on the
RL=1 flag

(C) To work around (B), telepathy-butterfly (which Empathy uses for MSN)
should auto-detect whether the text should be RTL, and if so, set the
RL=1 flag when it sends it to the MSN server

People who speak RTL languages: does that sound like a reasonable course
of action?

Can you post a backtrace? It would be useful if the build used -fno-inline, or
this will get a bit tricky to track down.

Please also verify that Qt did detect that Neon is absent. Run libQtCore.so.4
and paste the last line of the output. E.g.:

# /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4
This is the QtCore library version 4.7.1
Copyright (C) 2010 Nokia Corporation and/or its subsidiary(-ies).
Contact: Nokia Corporation (qt-i...@nokia.com)

Build key:   armv6 linux g++-4 full-config
Compat build key:|
Build date: 2010-11-04
Installation prefix: /usr
Library path:/usr/lib
Include path:/usr/include/qt4
Processor features: neon

If it says "neon" is present (like above), then it looks like there was a
detection mistake. Can you try turning the feature off by setting
QT_NO_CPU_FEATURE=neon and running the app again?

Finally, it would be nice also to have the command-line of the compiler used
when compiling the actual .cpp file.

Oh well, why does this happen?

  [...@monique~%] echo $LANG
  en_US.UTF-8
  [...@monique~%] echo $LANGUAGE
  de_AT:de

If I change $LANG to de_AT.UTF-8, it just works!

Seems like, the strings for what is displayed as the question, and the
strings which are used to compare the answer are not taken from the same
  locale (group).

  Kinda disturbing, please fix.

[Bug 617192] Re: [maverick-beta] Disabled menu items unreadable

2010-11-08 Thread Christian Giordano
I think they are still not enough recognizable, using as disabled color
for the text a color which is not between the enabled color and the
background is a very brave choice and in my opinion is not paying off.

Re: [Bug 671126] Re: --keyring argument breaks qemu-debootstrap

2010-11-08 Thread Alex Chiang
Clint, I agree that this isn't really a problem with
qemu-debootstrap. There is no sane way for qemu-debootstrap to
deal with all the possible debootstrap arguments unless you
completely replicate debootstrap command line parsing in the
wrapper, which doesn't make sense.

I agree that this bug should be Invalid in qemu-kvm.
