Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:

[Bug 1854386] [NEW] Show application renders computer unusable (invisible overlap)

2019-11-28 Thread Damian
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I've upgraded my ubuntu 19.04 to 19.10 this morning and I came across
this very annoying bug.

Whenever I click on 'show applications' or press win key (shortcut), the
menu with the applications show, but it's empty - you can search through
it and it works fine (applications show, one can trigger application
launch), but then after you select an application, the menu doesn't
disappear at all.

It doesn't go away when pressing any application on the dash panel, nor
when clicking esc key, it only goes away after you click on the dash
icon again, BUT...

It doesn't really go away - it just becomes invisible, but still it
overlaps all the items that are launched (with exception of dash panel,
because it's not being overlapped), and you can't do anything on any
launched application. Sometimes when you try to move some windows, you
can see them getting transformed into a miniature, as if the system
wanted to insert application into the suggestions on the 'show
applications'.

The only thing that worked for me was restarting my computer.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1852581 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852581

Thanks a lot, Martin.

That means you were probably affected by LP: #1852581, which affected
the hwe-edge version of the 5.3 kernel and was fixed during an update.
That explains how you got an update for that kernel and it fixed your
problem.

Thanks a lot for helping us finding out what was the case for your
issue. I am going to mark this bug as a duplicate of referred bug that
had already the fix released.

Regards.
Cascardo.

[Bug 1854340] Re: Gnome Shell Extension not Sowing on the Installed Extension section

2019-11-28 Thread Paul White
Not a bug with the dashtodock extension so reassigning to chrome-gnome-
shell, the package which allows managing of extensions on
https://extensions.gnome.org.

I can confirm the issue when using Chrome and Firefox in both Ubuntu
18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04 (dev). Most of web page is blank as per attached
screen shot. No extensions are displayed at all. When using Xubuntu
20.04 (dev) which doesn't have chrome-gnome-shell installed I see a
prompt to install said package.

This seems to be a very recent change so possibly the web-site has
changed and chrome-gnome-shell needs updating(?)

gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1852505] Re: When using a hidpi screen the GL preview only uses a quarter of the screen

2019-11-28 Thread tmodes
Sorry for the late reply.

We released 2019.2 RC1 with this patch last weekend. I was hoping it find its
ways into the repository.
The maintainer of our own ppa disappear recently and nobody else volunteered to
maintain it now. So I can't give you a link to a ppa.

The building instructions can be found at
https://wiki.panotools.org/Hugin_Compiling_Ubuntu
(The list of the dependencies is a little bit out of date. For some libraries
newer versions are needed. Otherwise it should be the same.)

[Bug 1854379] [NEW] Snap packages sources are not stated on listings

2019-11-28 Thread Yamin Bismilla
Public bug reported:

As shown in the attaching (flathub_source_good.png), flathub packages shown in
listings with the:
'source: dl.flathub.org' shown directily without having to click into the
application package.

This is not the case for Snap packages. You have to click into the
listing to find out if it is a SNAP package or not.

This is confusing these days as you can have the same package from
multiple sources (ubuntu source, SNAP, flathub...)

SNAP sources should be shown the same way.

A user would want to know the source, especially if it is a SNAP/flatpak
because they would associate it with more frequent updates and the other
benefits of the packaging.

Ideally you could also filter based on the source as well

** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Re: [Bug 1852575] Re: Kernels 5.022 or higher booting issues

2019-11-28 Thread Martin Dimitrov
Dear Sir / Madam,

In my update history, the update was written as:
package: libnss3
version: 2:3.35-2ubuntu2.5

Though, when I was updating it, I can definitely remember this was shown as
a kernel update of 5.3.0-23. After installing it, I was able to boot into
kernel 5.3.0-23.

Does this help?

Kind regards,
Martin

I believe Arkanon mentioned that the new kernel fixes the graphics
problem because it includes fixes from 5.3.8 as described in LP:
#1847980, which would still be found from the kernel in -proposed.
However, combined with this issue, Arkanon could probably not test the
fix for the graphics issue without being able to boot at all.

[Bug 1854376] [NEW] Snap/Flathub Download Size is confusing

2019-11-28 Thread Yamin Bismilla
Public bug reported:

The information provided for Snap/FlatPak packages is confusing and
should be improved.

For example, the Flatpak Developer Demo currently shows the following
information

Download Size = 918.1 MB
Installed Size = 257.5 KB

This is inconsistent and confusing. For my case, it led me to thinking
there was something wrong with Snap/flatpak packages. Why are they so
huge! Then I had to do some research.

It's my understanding this is due to possibly having to download and
install a 'runtime' along with the application. Please correct me if my
understanding is incorrect. In this case, as I don't have many flatpak
runtimes, the huge download size is probably to download the runtimes.
If I download another flatpak using the same runtime, the download size
would be much smaller as it would not need to redownload the runtime But
the install size is also not really 257.5 KB, as it is also going to
install a huge runtime. The reason why we're listing installed size is
to give an idea of how much disk space is going to be used anyways.

Proposed resolutions
1. Separate out application and runtimes in the display
a. Download Size = 200 KB, 900 MB runtime
b. Installed Size = 257.5 KB, 900 MB runtime
2. Have both items include the runtime
a. Download Size = 918.1 MB
b. Installed Size = 918.2 MB
3. Have both a total and a breakdown
a. Download Size = 918.1 MB ( 200KB application, 900 MB runtime)
b. Installed Size = 918.2 MB ( 257.5 KB application, 900 MB runtime)
4. Separate out the runtimes as a dependency or something like that
a. Download Size = 200 KB
b. Installed Size = 257.2 KB
This option is confusing as it would not give a good indicator of how long
the download would be. But maybe there is a better way overall to handle
dependencies like this in software center, so I just threw this in as an option

I am experiencing the same issue with a clean minimal install of Ubuntu

It seems the suspend mode defaults to s2idle which is causing the

Re: [Bug 1852575] Re: Kernels 5.022 or higher booting issues

2019-11-28 Thread Martin Dimitrov
Dear Sir / Madam,

Apologies for the inconvenience. I was unable to boot into kernel 5.3.0-23
till yesterday, when I received an update concerning this kernel.
Currently, I can boot into this kernel. Hence, the only minor problem I
have is rare flickering of the display, which I had ever since I was using
Linux Mint, though the instances
of the display flickering tend to reduce with the newer versions of the
Kernel. Everything else seems to work fine.

In that case, should I do something, or leave the things as they are?

Kind regards,
Martin

[Bug 1848211] Re: [SRU] valgrind fails to use debug symbols from glib/gtk

2019-11-28 Thread Balint Reczey
Valgrind is typically used with binaries from the same Ubuntu release or
locally built ones.

Since dwz was enabled by default for Debhelper compat level 12 in 19.04
I suggest not backporting the fix to 18.04. Since the issue was not
reported against 19.04 and 19.04 goes EOL soon I suggest not backporting
the fix to Disco either.

[Bug 1848211] Re: valgrind fails to use debug symbols from glib/gtk

The problematic debug symbol files triggering the valgrind issue.

.gnu_debuglink should not be present in
73a7789b7bf820c8546a35c13938e61fac4de0.debug.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * With dwz the .gnu_debuglink section may appear duplicated in the
+ debug file referenced originally in the .gnu_debuglink section. In that
+ case Valgrind fails to load the debug symbols.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * In Ubuntu releases earlier than 19.10 use gio from a package rebuilt with
dwz.
+ * Observe no relevant error when running gio with valgrind:
+$ valgrind /usr/bin/gio ~
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The fix is very simple, just ignoring the second .gnu_debuglink
+ found. There are no likely regressions.
+
+ [Original Bug Text]
+
The debug symbols from libglib2.0-0-dbgsym and libgtk-3-0-dbgsym don't
get properly picked up by valgrind in eoan for some reason. The symbols
  correctly work under gdb.

There is an warning printed from valgrind
'debuginfo section duplicates a section in the main ELF file'

Laney tried to rebuild without dh_dwz and it makes the warning go away and
the symbol work.
Downgrading valgrind to the disco version doesn't fix the issue.

** Summary changed:

- valgrind fails to use debug symbols from glib/gtk

This DKMS package carries its own fq.h/fq_impl.h/skbuff.h, and yet it
shares net/core/..., so there are interface mismatches and should
probably be addressed in the DKMS package instead if we want to keep
that stable backport.

[Bug 1854357] Re: Mounted drives' icons overlap on desktop

2019-11-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1063487 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063487

The nautilus code to handle the desktop has been removed in 18.10, the
bug can be different or a variant, the outcome is the same, the bug is
deprecated by the fact the feature has been removed.

In 18.10 a new component handle the desktop which does not have this
issue (though it has other limitation)

The issue while annoying is mostly cosmectic/easy to work around so I
don't expect it to rank high enough in our priority list to see a fix
being worked on for 18.04 at this point

[Bug 1852435] Re: Boots fine with 5.3.0-19, doesn't boot any more with 5.3.0-22

2019-11-28 Thread Arkanon
Hi, Thadeu.

I have the same problem described in
 and
apparently in this topic. I could only initialize my LUbuntu 19.10 with
the "nomodeset" parameter and then only the main monitor worked. My
integrated video chipset is the Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 (rev
06).

I installed the packages you indicated and now everything seems to work
:)

The same problem occurs with LUbuntu 18.04.3 and his kernel 5.3 package.
Do you think I can use the same packages in it?

2019-11-28 Thread Gustav Ekner
I can confirm this bug on a different printer; Brother MFC-L2720DW. It
runs over the network, and without any drivers or any special setup. No
matter if I choose long or short edge, it will print as if I selected
short edge. This worked in 19.04, so it seems the issue has been
introduced in 19.10.

[Bug 1854371] [NEW] Input lag with Razer Naga Trinity mouse

2019-11-28 Thread Foulques
Public bug reported:

When pressing multiple keys on my keyboard (Roccat isku FX) and pressing
repetitively the buttons on the "numpad" (side buttons) of my mouse (Razer Naga
Trinity) at the same time, the system freeze while doing this. All become
normal again when I stop doing this.
While freezing, I can see the Xorg process going up to 60/70% of the CPU.

Not sure if it is a Xorg or driver related problem, or anything else.

The traces are a bit hocus to me, I really don't have a clue whats going
on there but I guess it might help you make sense of whats going on
here.

[Bug 1854156] Re: [8086:24f3] intel Corporation Wireless 8260 regression of 4.4.0-170-generic proposed kernel

2019-11-28 Thread You-Sheng Yang
* This oem DKMS package was made from v5.1-rc1, and booting with a v5.1-rc1
kernel is immune,
* The net/flow_dissector patch (commit 55667441c84f) was backported from
v5.4-rc6, and booting with v5.4 also just works,
* And backport commit 55667441c84f directly to v5.1-rc1 doesn't hang, either.
