[Bug 1313546] [NEW] keyboard shortcuts not working
Public bug reported: Hi all, since the release upgrade to 14.04 amd64 I have some problems with keyboard, I think the problem is xorg or gnome-shell related, I'll try to explain it. The laptop is a Asus N56VZ, if I press any of the fn keys (except the laptop screen on-off) they don't work anymore, no response from the os. But If I go in settings - keyboard - shortcuts, I find the fn buttons properly configured and, If I try to reconfigure the keyboard backlight fn button, for example, the system recognize it, as any other fn button. So the system recognize the fn buttons, but they don't work inside gnome-shell session. Another strange think is the CTRL+ALT+T button, that doesn't work anymore, but in keyboard shortcuts is correctly recognized and configured. [Bug 1173107] Re: Asus N56VZ fn Keys.
Hi, I resolved everything. The problem for me was the dist-upgrade only. The kernel 3.8.0-19 amd64 works perfectly on a fresh install. I reinstalled it when I found a very strange think: nvidia didn't work well with optimus, intel hd 4000 was unstable, and many strange things. So I tried reinstalling everything from a fresh install and began an odissey: I think the problem was efi not really cleaned, so after the first fresh install the system booted from 3.8.0 kernel but when i was in the system, typing uname -a, showed me 3.5.0-17 (the 12.10 kernel that was installed before do-release-upgrade). So I deleted and format / partition, removed everything from /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu, reset windows efi (I had a backup of clean winzoz 7 install because I have dual boot) and performed a new fresh install. Now everything works fine, all keys working except fn+f2 (wireless switch), but I extremely better than before. The very strange think was the behaviour of the first fresh install, never seen a system completely crazy, I installed a kernel and found another, I think the problem was the efi. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173107 Title: Asus N56VZ fn Keys. [Bug 1173107] Re: Asus N56VZ fn Keys.
I have just discovered an interesting thing: If I set in /etc/default/grub acpi_osi='' the volume keys doesn't work anymore, but fn+f8 works perfectly (monitor config changes shifts from dual monitor extended, cloned monitor and single laptop monitor) while fn+f7 works in both mode. In this moment I unset that option, is the better solution at the moment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173107 Title: Asus N56VZ fn Keys. apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected raring ** Description changed: I have just finishing executed do-release-upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04 amd64 on my notebook asus n56vz. After the upgraded works only the fn+f1 (suspend), fn+f5,f6 (brighness), fn+f10,f11,f12 (volume) and nothing else more. doing lsmod I find asus_wmi correctly loaded. + --- + ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: alfredo2563 F pulseaudio + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=d03440a5-6014-4b16-bd94-82a413bbfb53 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-04-02 (23 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) + MachineType: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. [Bug 1088146] Re: Asus n56vz battery state is wrong or battery not charging at all.
Hi, I am running the same bios (.216) with an n56vz-p4364 laptop. I have the same battery red blinking problem, the fans goes to max, and I never tried the usb connection power charging. But adding acpi_osi=Linux doesn't resolve anything, I resolve powering off, removing and re-adding battery. But some after time the problem come back again. I have dual boot, and I have the same problem on my winzoz 7 pro x64 (downgraded), as my ubuntu 12.10 amd64, so I think is a bios problem. [Bug 810107] Re: package linux-image-2.6.38-10-generic 2.6.38-10.46 failed to install/upgrade: run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/nvidia-common exited with return code 10
I found a Solution: the problem is related to nvidia-current package. the package install lib inside /usr/lib but when kernel postinst (any kernel) searches the nvidia libs inside /usr/lib32 I think /usr/lib and /usr/lib32 is the same thing if you have a 32bit kernel. So I created a symbolic link: ln -s /usr/lib/nvidia-current/vdpau /usr/lib32/nvdia-current and now it compiles everything well. Thank you anyway. [Bug 773764] Re: frontend crashed with SIGSEGV in Perl_sv_clean_objs()
Hi, I found the same bug... the problem is related to perl Preparing to replace perl 5.10.1-17ubuntu4 (using .../perl_5.10.1-17ubuntu4.1_i386.deb) ... the last version broke debconf package and cause segmentation fault to debconf package binaries (i tried dpkg-reconfigure, debconf) and then I misconfigured other packages. After downgrading to 5.10.1-17ubuntu4 It works well again. I upgraded to natty from maverick on i386 - pae kernel some days ago.
