Re: [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend/hibernate
I thought it was clear from above that it's NOT an Nvidia issue but rather a Compiz problem. Let's not mix things here. If there was a problem with Nvidia, Gnome-Shell, Kwin and all the rest would have the same corruption problem. [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend/hibernate
@Cory: I know. What I don't know is how come they dismiss this bug as "Invalid". So, it's not exactly "Nvidia specific". It's rather Nvidia+Unity, which affects Unity desktop. If Unity developers won't implement a workaround, then at least someone should coordinate with Nvidia to fix the problem. And it is a very serious problem, mind you. I mean, we're talking about an OS that offers Nvidia proprietary drivers (when detected), which when activated breaks the sleep/hibernation. [Bug 838050] Re: Launcher has tile backgrounds that wash out many icons
@John: This is more than an "Opinion" and it certainly needs re- consideration of default settings. As it is, the backlight just obscures the icons. [Bug 782524] Re: Suggestion for a new Unity Menu Concept
I don't know if there is any work being done to address/implement the idea here but I must say, I really really like it. I think the click-to-gain-focus is not an issue if the menu is shown on hover for only active windows. That is, if there is an inactive maximized (unmaximized) window at the back, and you want to click on the title bar to put the focus on that window, the menu should not show on hover or first click. It should show only after the window gains focus. Of course, if the user made it so that focus follows mouse, then it would obey that. Also, I've been thinking about the length of menu for some programs, as this is a real potential issue even for the current design for low-res screens and some applications. What can be done is to show as many of the menu items as possible, and stack the rest in a final drawer item that looks like a pointer or an arrow; just like how Windows or KDE handles system indicators. This must be done dynamically (so I'm not sure how difficult the implementation would be) so that if the user changes window size, or font size, or screen resolution, all should be handled seamlessly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782524 Title: Suggestion for a new Unity Menu Concept To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/782524/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 759724] [NEW] Suggestion for "Workspace Switcher", "Applications", "Files & Folders" and "Trash" icons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity I've been using Unity since Alpha 1 and it occurred to me that I'm not at all using the "Applications" and "Files & Folders" icons in the Launcher, I doubt I'm the only one. This is partly because the same functionality is available in the Dash but mostly because those icons are too far to the bottom. For me, currently, they just sit there occupying space in Launcher. The "Workspace Switcher" location is also too far to the bottom and you happen to "look for it", rather than just point and click. Another argument for hiding the switcher button by default is that most users (while not me) do not use workspaces at all and its existence by default would put many novice users off. In summary, the problem for me is because "Workspace Switcher", "Applications", "Files & Folders" icons are ordered after the favorites and at the end, they do not have a fixed position, something that would help to just point and click, rather than looking for them. The "Trash" icon is another story. I never used it, end of story. I know it's there because it's been there in Gnome 2.x, which many people has been using but this is a new Shell for God's sake. Why keep something just for the memory of it? It just takes space in the Launcher. So I suggest that 1) Hide all those icons by default and make them optional in CCSM, and 2-a) Make them movable in the Launcher, or 2-b) Leave the "Trash" position at the bottom but move the other icons to the top, right under the BFB. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/759724 Title: Suggestion for "Workspace Switcher", "Applications", "Files & Folders" and "Trash" icons -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OK, I just updated to 3.8.4 and window placement seems to be fixed. That is the CCSM plugin "Place Windows" can now successfully open windows to fixed workspaces, something that had stopped working after 3.8.2, IDK why. However, the "Window Rules" plugin is still broken. It is a plugin that is not enabled by default and when you try to enable it 1) Compiz/Unity crashes, 2) the set rules do not work. I'm trying to use the "Sticky" rule. It is very easily reproducible for me: Just click enable check button for the "Window Rules" plugin and watch it crash. [Bug 731790] Re: Multiple quick clicks on launcher icon with multiple windows completely crashes Unity
Jean-Baptiste, thank you for looking into this. I can confirm that I experienced both cases 1 and 3 as you put in comment #7. I had case 1 with Evince, Libreoffice, Nautilus, and Gedit, and it seems like it doesn't matter what the application is. I had case 3 with Evince, Libreoffice and Mathematica. Till your post I hadn't thought they were related. But both cases are triggered by clicks on the Launcher icons, and clicks don't have to be too many or too quick. I can easily say that both cases become more probable as the Unity session uptime gets longer. I had reported another bug where long uptimes causes the Launcher not to hide or dodge. Might be related if there is some kind of degradation in Launcher (or Compiz?) as time goes (I'm not a developer, but I'm sure you can put this vague sentence into context). I'm not sure what you mean by case 2. When it happens, window decorations are still there but the top panel and Launcher are gone? Paul, your suggestion for a workaround does not work. I mean unity (or compiz) does not start, the command (unity --replace) terminates with segmentation fault and exits.
