[Bug 106912] Fiesty-Fawn intermittantly locks up when exiting Enemy-Territoryi
Public bug reported: I've notice a few problems while running Enemy-Territory. Screen darkens when screen saver time is up. I must recalibrate in the system setting of the game. I select the recalibration Button and set the brightness to the same setting and then apply. This fixes the problem for the same amount of time as the first amount of time it took to happen. Most of the time I just set the screen saver to the max 2hrs. and play until i get tired of playing or the screen darkens and then I quit plying. Hopefully I remember to reset the screen saver. Exit splash doesn't go away even though it is ran as a full screen program. It shows as a program window and the mouse will move but clicking on anything does nothing (including Force Quit). I have to hit the reset button on the front of my computer and reboot. Re: [Bug 103209] Re: not sure
I am not sure what program died. I had maybe 10 application windows open (at least). I had been going through the KDE and gnome menus just launching applications just to see what they did. I was also exploring available applications through aptitude search and I was installing applications that looked interesting. Then I noticed the icon that indicated that a crash had occurred. After clicking on the crashed icon, I discovered that their had actually been several crashes. At one of the prompts I entered my email information thinking I might be able to see what had crashed. I went back through several of the applications to see if I could recreate a crash. The only thing I found was in the KDE control panel, in the administration group, the application that says it will create some sort of image index crashes each time I select the option. The error tells me to install a "gift" application. I followed the link and I downloaded the latest gift source code. So far the code will not compile without errors. I have not spent much time yet trying to correct the errors. I am not sure whether the crash information was a result of the KDE control panel problem or something else. I would like to better understand the Ubuntu software support process. I have 20+ years experience in the computer field. Doing everything from programming to hardware and software support. I have even managed several projects that had 20+ developers involved. However, the way Linux and other large open source projects control project scope and code quality within a dispersed group of volunteers is amazing. Anyway sorry for the long winded response. [Bug 103629] Re: [apport] ubiquity crashed with AttributeError in on_next_clicked()
Colin: Thanks Evan: Thanks for responding. I wasnt trying to upgrade or reinstall, I was trying to do a fresh install on /dev/hdb in a machine with a working install on /dev/hda without using the LiveCD as the LiveCD kernel had a bug in it which would not boot on my hardware. I would roughly explain this as a "clone" install, install the base system on /dev/hdb and then use the list of packages reported by dpkg from /dev/hda and then apt-get install them on /dev/hdb. (loose references to devices may be confusing ). I will have to check that /dev/hda hasnt found service else where but leave this bug as needs info and I will endeavour to report back. -- [apport] ubiquity crashed with AttributeError in on_next_clicked() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 96084] Re: boot - /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
Guido Scalise: you need to get a newer kernel seing as you are using the LiveCD you need to get a new LiveCD :( or you could try disabling the JMicron controller from BIOS and sticking with the intel SATA ports see bug 84964 (havent tried myself) although you would need a SATA CD/DVD drive to boot the LiveCD from. [Bug 221499] Re: RTL8111/8168B does not work in Hardy
So let me get this right. The bug is in the Hardy Kernel and the fix is to use a new kernel from an unstable release? May be we should change it from "LTS" to "LTS except RTL8111/8168 users". I am sorry if I sound ironic but I was waiting for Hardy LTS so that I could settle on one version for a year or two and not keep updating. I appreciate the need for the SRU procedures but when the fix involves the replacement of the broken part (i.e. the kernel) is it really going to happen in LTS. -- RTL8111/8168B does not work in Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 251408] [NEW] please fully configure trackpoints on installation
Public bug reported: After a fresh install (Kubuntu Hardy 8.04.1) the trackpoint of my thinkpad is never configured correctly. Correctly meaning the middle mouse button of the trackpoint can not be used for scrolling. On the page http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_configure_the_TrackPoint it is described how to do this by adding a few lines in xorg.conf: Option "EmulateWheel" "on" Option "EmulateWheelButton""2" Option "YAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "XAxisMapping" "6 7" Since it seems like the trackpoint is recognised anyway during installation, it should not be such an act to do this automaticly. Additionaly it would be great if the press-to-select-functionality (also describe on the page) would be also enabled. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- please fully configure trackpoints on installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251408 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 245928] [NEW] users and groups applet does not work as expected
Public bug reported: I am trying to add ftp users to my system with the 'users and groups' applet and it is not working correctly. When I try to add unpriveleged users, i want all of them to have the same home dir '/home/fileserver'. The applet refuses to let me do this. It says home dir already exists. Also, when i try to select a shell of '/bin/false' the pulldown is empty. I checked the /etc/shells and /bin/false is there. Why is the list not populated with the data from /etc/shells? Why is the users and groups applet so broken? I guess I will have to use command line until this is fixed. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- users and groups applet does not work as expected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 174403] Re: 7.10 /usr/lib/cups/backend/hal failed
I'm having similar problems. Printer: Brother HL-5150D OS: Fresh install of kubuntu 7.10 from the "alternative" disc (text install method) - as downloaded 2008-02-09. I'm getting various problems - they seem to be permission related. The problem goes away when I do the following: # cd dev # chmod 777 usb* usb/* I can now print. I was unable to add the printer until I did this. As soon as I reboot, the problem returns. The problem must be with hal/dbus setting the permissions wrong, and I'm sure I can fix it with a bit more effort. [Bug 236422] [NEW] sansa mp3 players not mounted when plugged in
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 8.04 does not mount 2 of our sansa mp3 players when they are plugged in. After plugging them in, absolutely nothing happens. [Bug 222793] Re: Can't connect to 2wire HomePortal 1000SW wireless network with WEP enabled
I have been wondering if this problem has something to do with the wireless driver module. My current module (with Hardy) is "b43.ko" but I recall that it used to be "bcm43xx.ko" - could it be that this change lead to the problem? I really don't know much about these things, but I did try unsuccessfully to revert my driver back to the old one. I used rmmod and insmod and the module loaded, but the wifi led did NOT turn on, so I was unable to test this hypothesis. I'm curious though, if: (a) anybody else is using b43.ko? (b) anybody has an idea about how to make bcm43xx work again? In case you are like me circa a few days ago, and don't know how to check if you are using b43, you can type "lsmod | grep b43" in a terminal - if nothing shows up, you're not. -- Can't connect to 2wire HomePortal 1000SW wireless network with WEP enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also have a Presario 2700 Laptop and have been trying to get the sound to output from my laptop speakers for weeks. Re: [Bug 254740] Re: 512000 in Decimal, convert to hex is wrong
For me this is reproducible every time I have tried. It is a bit annoying. It is like the calculator removes the trailing 0's in hex mode.. Using the scientific calculator mode, I entered 512000 in decimal, then switched the result to Hex. I got 7D, instead of the correct result 7D000. Interesting, if I enter 512001, then it shows 7D001 as the result. I can try it on another system to see if I get the same problem there. Perhaps there is something wrong with my version, and I should try to reinstall.. Aanjhan Ranganathan wrote: > Thanks for helping us make Ubuntu better.
