Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013. [Bug 582849] Re: Multiple capture in same card are not used
It seems like both mine and JOORIS's sound hardware supports recording from both hda channels simultaneously, but AFAIK pulseaudio does not support what you would like to do at the moment. I'm not 100% sure though. At least there is no combine module to turn two sources into one four-channel source. As for the controller and codec Daniel is talking about, that's two pieces of physical hardware (e g your codec is called "Realtek ALC888"), not to be confused with the codecs used in audio files. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Triaged ** Description changed: + The user wants to be able to do multichannel recording with pulseaudio. Re: [Bug 582849] Re: Multiple capture in same card are not used
It currently isn't feasible to depend on any underlying hardware having this support. You need it in both the hda controller and codec (aka routing). In the future, passing the raw stream to the hw will be supported in pulse. -- Multiple capture in same card are not used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 582849] Re: Multiple capture in same card are not used
For #2 : yes i can do that directly to alsa, but the main audio server in ubuntu isn't pulseaudio ? and it can be interesting to record a song for one application and another song to other application, or if the application is capable, record two song at the same time for one application. For #3 : Why codec at the controller point of view ? or codec like vorbis ? for the first, if alsa show 2 control that's god isn't it ? for the second, i don't view the match ?!? for all, sorry for the late, i was busy ^^ -- Multiple capture in same card are not used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Daniel: That is true. From the controller point of view, do you know how to look it up whether this is supported or not? Re: [Bug 582849] Re: Multiple capture in same card are not used
Note that not all hardware supports this feature (both the controller and the codec need to support it). [Bug 582849] Re: Multiple capture in same card are not used
In fact, I have hardware somewhat similar to yours (Realtek ALC888, motherboard GA-MA770T-UD3P), so I decided to give it a try here. I can successfully record two channels simultaneously: I first set up alsamixer to have one capture be the mic and the other line-in, and levels at 0 dB. I then opened two terminal windows and ran the following two commands in parallell: arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav -D plughw:0,0 foobar0.wav arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav -D plughw:0,2 foobar2.wav ...and both line and mic were recorded appropriately. Can you confirm that the same applies to you? The pulseaudio layer, however, does not support that out of the box. (I guess this could be a design decision, to try to make things as simple as possible...)
