Wel, I have tried to fill the report bug upstream but it turned out to be impossible for the last period as their webpages are not reachable for me - it keeps loading several minutes and then displays an error message that the connection has been interrupted. [Bug 802660] Re: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G
Ah, you're right. I can finally hear the subwoofer now using speaker- test :) thanks. But as you said, it is still not recognized as 5.1 in the system sound manager. To be honest, I am quite confused whether it is a problem of ALSA or Pulseaudio as I do not know exactly what does each of them actually do. I think ALSA provides drivers to a program interface which is Pulseaudio, or? Shouldn't this bug be filled also against Pulseaudio? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802660 Title: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/802660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 802660] Re: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G
i guess it's alsa-driver (kernel driver) problem, because it doesn't know that acer aspire 8943g has a 5.1 on-board speakers, that's why they are not working properly systemwide. so we have to wait untill alsa adds support for 8943g, because they have support for 4 acer aspire **30g models, but no one with **43g -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802660 Title: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/802660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 802660] Re: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G
affects not only ubuntu natty, also oneiric and archlinux. tried every single model name listed in HD-Intel-Models.txt (Section ALC662/663/272) — but no success, some models gave me Center and LFE in alsa mixer, but they didn't worked in alsamixer. [Bug 802660] Re: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G
Thanks for your response, artemeas. I have read the whole Archlinux thread that you have linked and heard the front center speaker for the first time with the speaker-test -D default -c6 -twav command that you have posted there :o) However, the subwoofer still doesn't emit any sound as it was muted or something. I don't know why is doesn't work for me as it does for you. Maybe it is caused by another packages' versions or it simply works in Archlinux and in Ubuntu not? Regarding the models, I have done exactly the same trying every single one. With the same result, only, in my case, I haven't tried alsamixer - I did it only for the default model. As it doesn't seem to be anyhow useful, reporting bugs on distributions' bug trackers, it is probably the right time to report this issue upstream as it was advised in the Archlinux thred. Could you please report it in the ALSA bug tracker as it seems to me that you have much more experience and have done deeper testing than me?
[Bug 802660] Re: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G
if you're using pulseaudio then create a file: ~/.pulse/daemon.conf with this content: enable-lfe-remixing = yes default-sample-rate = 48000 default-sample-channels = 6 default-channel-map = front-left, front-right, center, rear-left, rear-right, lfe then restart and you should get center and lfe (subwoofer) in speaker- test -c6 -twav but I have no idea how to make it appear as 5.1 profile in system settings, and in alsamixer as standalone CENTER, and LFE channels, I have only FRONT, and SURROUND. but the code I posted above should work for center and lfe in speaker-test, but I don't know how to make it system-wide applied, tried lot's of .asoundrc configs but nothing except speaker-test worked on all 6 channels -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802660 Title: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/802660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 802660] Re: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G
Well, adding that into the file ~/.pulse/daemon.conf (that in fact didn't exist before) made pulseaudio something irresponsible or what. The system volume control shows speaker with --- and is not able to launch sound settings saying Waiting for response from the sound system. I also tried speaker-test and only the front left and front right worked with this configuration, other speakers were muted. It also printed an error message at the beginning of the output: E: daemon-conf.c: [/home/lukaschmela/.pulse//daemon.conf:4] Neplatná mapa kanálů front-left, front-right, center, rear-left, rear-right, lfe. (Invalid channel map) ..I can play audio files but again only stereo and I am not able to set the volume so I will delete the file and go back to the 4.0 meantime. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802660 Title: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/802660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

delete spaces between channel names, my fault: enable-lfe-remixing = yes default-sample-rate = 48000 default-sample-channels = 6 default-channel-map = front-left,front-right,center,rear-left,rear-right,lfe create in ~ a file named .asoundrc (with . at the beginning) inside this file add this: pcm.pulse { type pulse } ctl.pulse { type pulse } pcm.!default { type pulse } ctl.!default { type pulse } restart, speaker-test should work, it works on my arch, should also work on ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802660 Title: ALC670 5.1 surround not recognized properly on Acer Aspire 8943G To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/802660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
