[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2009-04-21 Thread Jonathan Thomas
This shouldn't be a problem in more recent versions of Kubuntu. (I know
you are prompted for your password when you try to mount devices in
Dolphin in Kubuntu 8.10 or 9.04.)

[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-06-13 Thread Andrew Lowe
I had this problem with a newer USB thumb drive.
It came up as /dev/sdb1 but the older model comes up as /dev/sdb

My /etc/fstab had an entry for /dev/sdb1 with an invalid mount point (
/dev/sdb1 ext3
nouser,noauto,atime,rw,nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0)

Apon removing this entry everything works fine.
I have no idea how this entry came about to be in my fstab, however removing it
seems to fix the bug.

It also appears that the newer larger? usb thumb drives tend to appear
similar to a hard disk drive (with partitions and all) unlike the older
thumb drives.

I hope this is of some help to all involved, and please do not hesitate
to contact me for more information (I will subscribe to this bug report
too)

[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-06-08 Thread Richard Johnson
In Kubuntu I am asked what I want to do upon plugging in it. My external
500GB USB drive automounts on startup, however I may have added
something in the past, but I do not remember doing this.

Re: [Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-06-01 Thread pepster
I got a friend to install feisty on his laptop and his external hard
drive will not mount automatically as well. He says "Windows is so
much better". This is truly a public relation destroying regression.

[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-06-01 Thread DanWei
I have this (imho it is immanent at all, nor?) bug too - and its very
annoying.

I can not mount internal drives via the "media:/"-kio, which was pre
feisty possible (and really cool).

I also get the same error message, if i want to mount external drives -
but not always. Dont know, on which aspects this is depending...

Error message: "hal-storage-fixed-mount refused uid 1000" (uid 1000 is
of course my user)

now i always have to enter "pmount /dev/..." myself - not very good publicy for
kubuntu, if i show it to someone and have to go to a konsole to just get access
to a USB stick... :/
In my point of view, this bug is a really annoying showstopper.

Looking forward for a fix - should not be hard, as it worked in all other
versions pre feisty.
TIA; Daniel

[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-04-16 Thread Martin Pitt
Right, just as gnome-mount (which re-executes itself through gksu), the
KDE counterpart has to call the dbus function as root to mount fixed
hard disk partitions.

[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-04-16 Thread Hugues Fournier
Concerning fixed hard drives ( previous comment ), this is an
intentional behavior from the maintainer of HAL Martin Pitt, if
PolicyKit is not included (and this is the case in Feisty) :

debian/patches/55_nonpolkit-mount-policy.patch: Implement a policy check
if PolicyKit is not available: Only allow mounting of removable devices
 to non-root users.

+/* root can do everything; only allow handling removable devices
+ * without uid change to non-root users */
+if (!invoked_by_uid || strcmp(invoked_by_uid, "0"))
+if (!privilege || strcmp (privilege,
"hal-storage-removable-mount"))
+permission_denied_privilege (privilege,
invoked_by_uid);

[Bug 98751] Re: feisty beta fails to mount hard drives

2007-04-11 Thread dougwolfe
I have the same problem too. In gnome I cannot mount the hard drives and I
recieve this error:
 Cannot mount volume.
 Error org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy.
 Advanced -> hal-storage-fixed-mount refused uid 1000
The following works fine:
sudo gnome-mount --device /dev/sda2 --mount-point store
But if change it to
 gnome-mount --device /dev/sda2 --mount-point store
then I get the same error as above.
The same problem occurs with usb drives.

I have what seems to be the same problem, after upgrading to Feisty my
external USB hard drive no longer automounts. Attached is the dmesg
output after connecting the drive, everything looks ok. Let me know if
there are any tests I could do to help out on this one.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

access the drive as an attachment to your bug report? Thanks in advance.
