Unfortunately, the brightness of the laptop display is _not_ affected. I just upgraded to intrepid yesterday. The slider bar does now appear when the brightness buttons are pressed, and the screen brightens and darkens as expected. I have the same problem on my Toshiba Tecra M9. It works fine with the nv driver. I too have the same problem.
