[Bug 246322] Re: nis package must provide DHCP client scripts
You're missing the point with laptops and so on: these are use cases that are already supported and can be broken by a poor DHCP implementation. This is especially the case if your preferred implementation with overwriting the configuration file were done - the user configuration would be unconditionally deleted if they connected to the wrong network. Adding a DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE note doesn't really address the problem: it's not really compliant with policy (users should be able to do static configuration) and means that it becomes impossible to set any configuration which is not offered over DHCP. You should do something like have the DHCP configuration go in a separate file and source that from the main configuration file. -- nis package must provide DHCP client scripts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dhcp3 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 312648] [NEW] package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba I tried to set up shared folders through the Xubuntu UI (System Shared Folders). I was prompted to install NFS and/or SMB, so I chose both. A dependency problem with NFS was identified and it was left unconfigured. I decided I didn't need NFS so uninstalled both nfs-common and nfs- kernel-server through Synaptic. [Bug 102921] Re: Moving the mouse cursor over the gnome-system-monitor temporarily causes network and disk usage to become zero
What I don't understand is how it can say something like 50% network in use. If I'm on a 100MBps lan does that mean I am moving 50MBps. No, certainly not. It could be an issue of scaling the graph. Maybe when you mouse over the applet it looks back at what your capacity and usage is and makes the graph of that. So we would likely see near zero percent. Otherwise maybe it looks at peak traffic information and scales from there, 50% of peak network usage. I think my main question is how does it know how tall to make the graph of network usage given that I never have even approached 100% of my network's capacity. -- Moving the mouse cursor over the gnome-system-monitor temporarily causes network and disk usage to become zero https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/102921 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Plus nm-applet really shouldn't segfault because it can't find the binary. [Bug 312399] [NEW] dns packets malformed
Public bug reported: I have seen this problem repeatedly. It seems to be a problem with Ubuntu 8.10, particularly the X64 version. Most commonly seems to affect wireless connections using a local server for DHCP and DNS lookup. Symptom: Although NetworkManager has properly configured the wireless interface, and correctly set up /etc/resolv.conf with the address of the router, DNS lookup just fails. ping etc works, but only if you use the IP address (ie, google.com=72.14.205.100) Manually adding your ISPs nameserver to /etc/resolv.conf seems to fix the problem (as far as getting you onto the internet) but it would appear that this is in fact masking the underlying problem. Using 'host google.com' as an example, this is the result of the dns lookup request: sudo tcpdump -i wlan0 -X -vvv -n -l -s 256 port 53 tcpdump: listening on wlan0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 256 bytes 12:04:33.836997 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 0, offset 0, flags [DF], proto UDP (17), length 56) 192.168.0.3.43626 192.168.0.1.53: [udp sum ok] 40938+ A? google.com. Juste a side note, although the issue has been fixed... It has been considered that Ubuntero sounded Spanish. [Bug 238259] Re: Building amd64 module for virtualbox-ose fails.
SHORT ANSWER: apt-get install virtualbox-ose-source linux-headers-$(uname -r) BUILD_TARGET_ARCH=amd64 m-a -k /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r) build virtualbox-ose dpkg -i /usr/src/virtualbox-ose-modules-$(uname -r)_*_amd64.deb LONG ANSWER: the problem, at least for virtualbox-ose-source 1.5.6-dfsg-6ubuntu1 in hardy, is that debian/rules (lines 38-48) does not set ARCH correctly (ie ARCH set to i386 instead of x86_64). see attached patch for possible fix. on all my amd64 machines (two running debian etch and one running ubuntu hardy; linux 2.6.22, 2.6.26, and 2.6.24 respectively) uname -m returns x86_64. so line 40 (grep 86) evaluates to true and ARCH is set to i386. neither of the two remaining tests (lines 43 46) are true because module-assistant sets KVERS to 2.6.24-22-generic which doesn't contain the architecture as a substring (ie 86 or amd64). so the binary-modules rule calls the module's Makefile with ARCH=i386. in the module's Makefile, on lines 18-40, if BUILD_TARGET_ARCH is not already set, then ARCH (and uname -m if ARCH is not set, but not applicable in our case) is used to set BUILD_TARGET_ARCH. since ARCH=i386 is passed to the Makefile by debian/rules, the Makefile sets the BUILD_TARGET_ARCH to x86. this eventually defines RT_ARCH_X86 in the Makefile which causes 32-bit i386 assembly to be compiled with SUPDRVShared.c (unsuccessfully with 64-bit amd64 assembler) which causes the error and halts the build. because in the Makefile BUILD_TARGET_ARCH is tested before ARCH and debian/rules does not set BUILD_TARGET_ARCH, but ARCH, my hack is to define BUILD_TARGET_ARCH (as amd64) when calling module-assistant. but the more proper solution is to have debian/rules properly recognize the arch from uname -m. ** Attachment added: patch for debian/rules to set ARCH=x86_64 based on uname -m returning x86_64 http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20810484/debian-rules.patch -- Building amd64 module for virtualbox-ose fails. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238259 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. P.S. writing a forum-like post doesn't get you any bonus points, in fact it makes the work of the fellows who have to triage your report a lot more difficult. ** Changed in: amarok (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Summary changed: - I just got a Dell mini 9 and installed Amarok like an idiot and i think it crashed my system. [Bug 311860] Re: Auto-hibernate due to inactivity results in a resumed session with hanged gnome-power-manager preventing the system from entering hibernate again
WORKAROUND: This issue doesn't arise if the system uses uswsusp rather than the kernel's method of hibernation. So, the fix is to force gnome-power- management to use s2disk rather than the kernel method. This is fairly simple to do: Download the attached script hal-system-power-hibernate-linux sudo apt-get install uswsusp sudo s2disk##Test to see if s2disk works. CAUTION: make sure data is saved for this test! sudo mv /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-hibernate-linux /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-hibernate-linux.backup sudo cp hal-system-* /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/ sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/* Now, gnome-power-manager should use s2disk to hibernate fixing my reported issue. Note: I found these instructions from http://blog.paulbetts.org/index.php/2007/02/11/fixing-software-suspend- hibernate-with-uswsusp-in-ubuntu-feisty-and-edgy/#comment-17671. The only change I made was to modify the script to reflect the location of the s2disk binary in Ubuntu 8.10. ** Attachment added: hal-system-power-hibernate-linux http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20810875/hal-system-power-hibernate-linux -- Auto-hibernate due to inactivity results in a resumed session with hanged gnome-power-manager preventing the system from entering hibernate again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
