[Bug 1772610] [NEW] Adding back alx WoL feature

2018-05-22 Thread AceLan Kao
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The WoL feature is a must to pass Energy Star 6.1 and above,
the power consumption will be measured during S3 with WoL is enabled.

[Test case]
Verified pass on new Dell machines without the wake up issue.

[Regression potential]
No regression.
We disable this feature by default, so the driver behavior will be the same.
We'll leave this feature disabled by default before we can fix the
unintentional wake up issue.

[Bug 1772624] [NEW] Broadcom BCM4356 wifi chipset firmware is not working

2018-05-22 Thread Jean-Pierre Thomasset
Public bug reported:

Hello,

After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 I got an issue with the wifi chipset
(Broadcom BCM4356) not initializing properly.

Here is the error I got when loading the driver brcmfmac:

```
```

As seen here https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/668329, I
reverted to the previous linux-firmware version and then the wifi
chipset is working:

[Bug 1772038] Re: ubuntu/xubuntu 18.04 kernel crash during install.

2018-05-22 Thread Brian McConkey
Here is another observation, when I run virtualbox on 17.10, and then
create a guest OS with 18.04 it runs fine, no kernel crashes. Thus this
evidence seems to point to the fact that 18.04 is not playing nicely
with the HP BIOS, but 17.10 does play nicely. 18.04 seems to have no
problems with the virtual BIOS provided by VirtualBox.

[Bug 1772617] [NEW] fix inverted boolean flag in arch_add_memory, reverts back to original behaviour

2018-05-22 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

== SRU Justification, ARTFUL ==

Bug fix #1761104 incorrectly inverted the flag in the call to arch_add_memory,
it should be true instead of false.
== Fix ==

Fix partial backport from bug #1747069, remove can_online_high_movable
and fix the incorrectly set boolean argument to arch_add_memory().
NVIDIA are reported that this is was incorrectly flipped in the last SRU
to fix their driver support on powerpc.

== Testing ==

run ADT memory hotplug test, should not regress this. Without the fix,
the nvidia driver on powerpc will not work. With the fix it loads and
works.

== Regression Potential ==

This fixes a regression in the original fix and hence the regression
potential is the same as the previously SRU'd bug fix for #1747069,
namely:

"Reverting this commit does remove some functionality, however this does
not regress the kernel compared to previous releases and having a
working reliable memory hotplug is the preferred option. This fix does
touch some memory hotplug, so there is a risk that this may break this
functionality that is not covered by the kernel regression testing."

Yes, you mentioned it and it is why I suggested to add the extra rules... but I
may be wrong as I'm no udev expert :'(
Have you checked in your user settings if your account has "Use scanners"
checked under "User privileges"? If not, maybe you'd have to give it a try to
see if it solves the problem.

Thanks for the answer!

When and why it was dropped, while drivers still have GLES1 calls inside
binary? Mesa's libGL.so still does have them.

Proprietary drivers also don't drop GLES1 support, GLES1 functionality
persists in latest NVidia driver.

[Bug 1772632] [NEW] Backport packages for 16.04.5 HWE stack

2018-05-22 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

*** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.4 ***

A minor update, only xserver sync, some driver updates plus a newer
Mesa.

Mesa needs llvm-toolchain-6.0 and libclc, libdrm, updates.

[Test case]

upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

[Regression potential]

libdrm:
Slim to none, changes from 2.4.83 to 2.4.91
- amdgpu: new pci-ids, bugfixes, tests
- intel: new pci-ids
- drm: leak fixes, manpage updates
- exynos, etnaviv, freedreno, android: fixes, new stuff

wayland-protocols:
None, just adds a few protocol definitions (xml files)

llvm-toolchain-6.0:
None, a new package

libclc:
I'd say none, very little has changed, added support for llvm-6 is the main
reason for this slightly newer snapshot

xorg-server:
Slim, it's an upstream bugfix release, changes from 1.19.5 to 1.19.6+git
include:
- security fixes
- backported bugfixes to glamor, modesetting driver, xwayland etc

mesa:
New major release plus a few bugfix updates after that. Regressions at this
point are less likely. Upstream is tested by Intel CI system for instance. And
we're already testing it via a ppa on OEM systems for 16.04.5. Tracking bug for
the bugfix release (bionic) is bug 1772607

[Bug 1770082] Re: systemd-networkd not renaming devices on boot

2018-05-22 Thread Stefan Beckers privat
I was struggling with this for quite some time and played around using
netplan.io and not using it. I figured out that you need to run "update-
initramfs -u" to make settings persist reboots in
"/etc/systemd/network/" when not using netplan.io.

But netplan.io saves the configuration in "/run/systemd/network/". Here
the update of initramfs does not make any difference and on boot the
network set-up fails to rename the interfaces as configured with all
consequences for the system.

To me it appears that "update-initramfs" needs to include the generated
configuration from netplan.io to get the network configuration correct
on reboot.

The following workaround does the job for me after every configuration
change in netplan.io:

1. netplan apply
2. rm /etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-*.link
3. cp /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-*.link /etc/systemd/network/
4. update-initramfs -u

Now the generated link files are found by update-initrd. Never the less
there should be a consistent solution.

I reinstalled Bionic to a fresh/clean state (for unrelated reasons) and
can't reproduce the freezing with the current kernel. A bit mysterious.

[Bug 1772637] [NEW] Yoga 720 touchscreen multitouch

2018-05-22 Thread Pitrack
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I asked a question here

no one seems to answer... So I try here

I can't make multitouch work with my yoga 720 convertible. At least not
as expected. The touchscreen work, some gestures work but touchscreen is
not able to handle multiple touch event unless I disable Gesture
parameter.

I work with ubuntu 18.04 / Xorg / xinput. Prior to this version I was
working with 17.10 / wayland. On 17.10 in order to make multitouch
support more than 2 fingers at once I had to disable gnome gestures.
Unfortunately, this is not working on ubuntu 18.04.

So I found a parameter for my touchscreen called Gesture (Gesture -
Turns on/off multi-touch gesture events (default is on).)

By disabling this parameter for my touchscreen, multitouch is working as
expected. But no more ... Gestures !

I think both should work together

[Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-05-22 Thread Adrian H
I had working proprietary drivers for my GTX 1080 Ti and then I upgraded
from 17.10 to 18.04. Everything worked well, gdm login screen appears,
but AFTER entering username and password and hitting ENTER, I only get a
black screen.

For me #123 solved the problem, thanks for the detailed description.

Just wanted to add that when booting in recovery mode, the timing issue
also did not appear and I was able to login.

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

...

Besides, in spite the fact the workaround worked for me (able to scan), there
are still some issues:
a. the scanner is very slow to detect (at least one minute, against a few
seconds under Ubuntu 16.04)
b. my scanner is sheet fed, but gets identified as a flatbed scanner, which
results in some options being grayed out in "Image Scan!" (iscan)

I'll try as, Jean, to replace the libsane-epkowa.so.1 by the one
provided with the Epkowa package to see if it solved those issues as
well.

[Bug 1772038] Re: ubuntu/xubuntu 18.04 kernel crash during install.

2018-05-22 Thread Brian McConkey
I have 2 of these computers, the 2nd computer has 8GB of memory and 1TB
HDD, same video card, but this second computer has a WiFi card
installed. I've tried several of the DVD's that I burned and I get the
same results the only difference is the time stamps shown on the screen
is different. On this second computer the crash happens quicker (ie the
timestamps are lower).

I'm currently downloading the 18.10 kernel and I'll report when I know
more about this daily build kernel.

Problem is not with mdadm at all, that configured fine.

The problem is with init.d script proserver, which is missing LSB
headers and thus cannot be ordered due to a circular dependency.

I do not know what proserver, is. But please either fix it by adding LSB
headers, or remove/disable it for the upgrade.

These are older machines and boot with a BIOS. If I get free time, I'll
remove the graphics card and see what happens, but I agree with
jsailsbury I think it will still crash.

[Bug 1772557] Re: FREETYPE_PROPERTIES environment variable is not respected

2018-05-22 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Confirmed. This is related to how gnome-terminal starts up, via dbus /
systemd --user. Even if you type "gnome-terminal" in let's say an xterm,
it just notifies systemd to fire up the server. During this step,
environment variables get lost.

As a workaround, you could manually start up the server, followed by the
client (with a tiny pause in between, if doing from a script), as
described at https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Terminal/Debugging (without the
gdb part).

Here's my wrapper script I often use while debugging:

#!/bin/bash
/usr/lib/gnome-terminal/gnome-terminal-server --app-id a.b$$ &
sleep 0.2
/usr/bin/gnome-terminal --app-id a.b$$ "$@"

Plenty of other env variables that somehow affect the behavior (e.g.
GTK_THEME) aren't forwarded either. So it's probably not feasible to
start whitelisting and somehow proxying them to the server one by one.

I guess other apps that use dbus/systemd to start up are also affected.
xfce4-terminal follows a more standard pattern.

I'm not sure what the right solution would be, it looks to me that this
overall design has this limitation, or at least I'm not aware of the
proper approach (maybe configure systemd??). Alas I'm not aware with the
rationale and details of this design.

[Bug 1772636] [NEW] panel shows "VPN off" when VPN is in fact running

2018-05-22 Thread Merlijn Sebrechts
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 18.04, the VPN toggles in the dash show that all VPN's are
off, even though it's on.

Attached are two screenshots from the same moment: the panel incorrectly
shows no VPN, but Gnome Settings correctly shows that one VPN is
running.

[Bug 1772646] [NEW] grisbi categories mismatch between two OS (Ubuntu/Windows 10)

2018-05-22 Thread Autiwa
Public bug reported:

For a few years now, I use Grisbi on Ubuntu.

lately, I tried to use Grisbi on Windows 10, using the same Grisbi file.

I noticed that the categories for each expenses were not matching the
categories I originally chose on Ubuntu. I then think that categories
are stored as indexes in the datafile, and if for one reason or another,
the same index doesn't design the same category on both OS, then the
problem occurs.

On way to solve this would be to hardcode the categories in the
datafile, or make sure that a unique identifier is created for one given
category, no matter the user/PC/OS grisbi sees.

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2018-05-22 Thread Jean COLIN
Had problem with EPSON perfection 3170 photo = GT9400UF

searched for long

to display what dll are used,
use command shell export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=128
then use command shell xsane
discovered that

[dll] load: searching backend `epkowa' in
`/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/sane:/usr/lib/sane'
[dll] load: trying to load `/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/sane/libsane-epkowa.so.1'
[dll] load: dlopen()ing `/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/sane/libsane-epkowa.so.1'
[dll] init: initializing backend `epkowa'
[dll] init: backend `epkowa' is version 1.0.213

the file /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/sane/libsane-epkowa.so.1 (273k) is
different from the file included in the driver downloaded from epsion
(142k)

the file downloaded from epsion was installed at /usr/lib/sane/

copied this file from /usr/lib/sane/ to /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/sane/
(renamed file 273k for safety)

now
[dll] init: backend `epkowa' is version 1.0.208

and working (for me) - probable regression between version 1.0.208 and
version 1.0.213

[Bug 1772538] Re: Can't start arm64 VM due to apparmor error.

2018-05-22 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
We have a few changes, but none of these is "the" issue.
- Cpu features
- cpu model
- emulator without redirect

But I found that your nvram line is wrong:
  /usr/share/AAVMF/AAVMF_VARS.fd
With that you want it to change the systems default template, you should
instead use
  /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/nvram/b1_VARS.fd
With an individual guest name.

This misconfiguration is the problem that breaks it:
  error: internal error: cannot load AppArmor profile
'libvirt-1f776433-dc84-43ac-9e60-b8e571ae22ff'

If anything the message is sort of misleading, but that is another issue
(see bug 1767934 for that).

For this bug here it is just misconfiguration, switching to my
suggestion above avoids the issue and make it work.

Note: The apparmor Deny messages are actually a Red Herring and no more
occurring in later versions.

[Bug 1688575] Re: Segmentation fault on a slave slapd (sync replication with kerberos authentication)

2018-05-22 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  Concurrent SASL authentications could trigger a segfault. This was observed
by the bug reporter during replication from a master to a slave, and can be
reproduced with a test program.

  The fix is applied upstream, see comment #13.

  [Test Case]
  * Create a fresh xenial VM or container and login. Update the apt
repositories:
  sudo apt update

  * Create a local directory and cd into it:
  mkdir test && cd test

  * Download the test attachments from this bug: Makefile, sasltest.c and
testscript:
  wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/1688575/+attachment/5139678/+files/Makefile

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/1688575/+attachment/5139679/+files/sasltest.c

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/1688575/+attachment/5139680/+files/testscript
+
+ * Build with
+   $ apt install libsasl2-dev libldap2-dev
+   $ make

  * Execute the testscript with sudo once. It shall fail at the very end with a
core dump:
  sudo sh ./testscript
  (...)
  sasltest: sasltest.c:70: bind_thread: Assertion `rc == LDAP_SUCCESS' failed.
  Aborted (core dumped)

  * Export this var:
  export LDAPSASL_SECPROPS=none

  * Run the actual test script a few more times to confirm the crasH:
  $ ./sasltest
  rc = -6 (Unknown authentication method)
  sasltest: sasltest.c:70: bind_thread: Assertion `rc == LDAP_SUCCESS' failed.
  rc = -6 (Unknown authentication method)
  sasltest: sasltest.c:70: bind_thread: Assertion `rc == LDAP_SUCCESS' failed.
  rc = -6 (Unknown authentication method)
  sasltest: sasltest.c:70: bind_thread: Assertion `rc == LDAP_SUCCESS' failed.
  Aborted (core dumped)

  * Install the updated packages from proposed

  * Run ./sasltest again. Make sure the LDAPSASL_SECPROPS var is still exported:
  $ echo $LDAPSASL_SECPROPS
  none

  $ ./sasltest
  $

  This time the test completes without crashing.

  [Regression Potential]
  This is SASL authentication, and with kerberos nonetheless (in the case of
the bug reporter). I suspect not many people deploy this due to its complexity.
The ones that have such a setup, however, tend to know what they are doing, so
if they say the problem is fixed for them, I believe it is.

  About this particular change, it's committed upstream and also in
  debian, and @rtandy was kind enough to provide a sample test script that
  exhibits the problem.

  [Other Info]
  Since the fix is applied upstream and in Debian, there shouldn't be
additional surprises here.

  [Original description]

  I have a slapd problem on a freshly installed 16.04 machine:

  slapd[17107]: segfault at 1a ip 7f3c12c79f55 sp 7f3c03c2d080
  error 4 in libsasl2.so.2.0.25[7f3c12c72000+19000]

  I'm using the server as Slave LDAP-Server and sync replication with kerberos
authentication.
  The service either starts and runs successfully or it fails with segmentation
fault or 100% CPU.
  Maybe an useful info, I'm replicating two databases. When I deactivate
syncrepl for one of them (doesn't matter which one) the problem is not occuring.

[Bug 1772629] [NEW] Automatic logout when resuming from suspend on Xubuntu 18.04

2018-05-22 Thread Paulo Marcel Coelho Aragão
Public bug reported:

When my Xubuntu 18.04 laptop resumes from suspend, systemd-logind
automatically logs out of the current session if the laptop has stayed
suspended for more than a couple of hours. If the interval between
suspend and resume is short, it doesn't log out. I still haven't
discovered how long this interval has to be in order to cause the
logout.

I enabled debug on the systemd-logind.service, creating file
_/etc/systemd/system/systemd-logind.service.d/10-debug.conf_:

[Service]
Environment=SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug

which causes systemd-logind to log all D-Bus messages it handles, but
couldn't spot anything that might have caused the logout.

I scanned all systemd journal messages (`journalctl`) before systemd-
logind starts killing the current session, investigated all that looked
suspicious but couldn't find anything that might influence an automatic
logout. Here are some of the messages that striked me as suspicious
(they are not sequential, but pulled from different occasions):

You'll one to install the ppa-purge package and then use it to remove
the ppa and it will also downgrade the packages. 'ppa-purge --help'

sudo apt-get clean, update, upgrade completed without error. Thank you for
your assistance.

BTW, I checked other error messages, and found that the firefox package
file
/usr/share/doc/firefox-locale-en/copyright was correct. I could discern no
reason for that small error.
