Software with more intelligence

2017-02-12 Thread A. Mani
Input : Number of PDFs + few annotations/images

Desired Output: Annotated PDFs with image placed without overlap on
printed characters

This can be done with xournal manually, but is much harder to manage
with imagemagick + scripts

I want a software that can be trained for such purposes.

Thanks and Best

[Bug 1602414] [NEW] nvidia-304 304.131-0ubuntu0.14.04.1: nvidia-304 kernel module failed to build (Attempting to setup Ubuntu on a Asus P5be Mobo & Geforce 7300gs)

2016-07-12 Thread mani
Public bug reported:

Hi.

Attempting to setup Ubuntu 14.04 lts on a 6gb/Asus P5be Mobo & Geforce
7300gs.

I've tried some PPA's like xorg-edgers seems to freeze on wallpaper
towards unity desktop loading. It seems to get to login ok, it's the
driver issue which is causing chaos.

I've got to the desktop in 640x480! Using:

Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.6, 128 bits)

I'm out of ideas now. I'll enquire on the forum.

Regards,

Mani.

Re: [Bug 1448102] Re: Kubuntu 15.04: plasmashell crashes

2015-09-10 Thread A. Mani
It is about permissions and the theme.
If you are sticking to breeze and
change permissions recursively in ~/.config and ~/.cache
then

kbuildsycoca5 && kquitapp plasmashell && kstart plasmashell

should fix everything

But you would not get the panel if you are using oxygen.

Best

[Bug 1453257] [NEW] Klines and Other KDE Games do not start in Kubuntu-15.04

2015-05-08 Thread A. Mani
Public bug reported:

Latest Kubuntu 15.04 with plasma 5.3
x86-64

Package: Klines

KDEInit could not launch 'klines':

Could not open library '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkdeinit5_klines'.

Cannot load library /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkdeinit5_klines:

object file: No such file or directory)
__

Problem persists even after downgrading Klines from 4.15.04 to 4.14.12.3

Remark: Problem existed in Plasma 5.2 also.

Problem seems to be a X86-64 Specific Packaging Error

doing because it did not have some of the data(shell handlers) it needed
 to function.

[Bug 953342] Re: Add support for Qt Designer UI files

2014-12-04 Thread Sandro Mani
Shouldn't the result of getXMLstring be passed to entity_decode first?
Something along the attached patch. Perhaps I'm not doing this as was
planned (basically I'm running a regex-replace on the generate ui_XXX.h
files to replace QApplication::translate calls with gettext ones, see
[1]), but without entity_decode, the msgids of strings containing html
markup does not match what is actually in the ui_XXX.h files, plus
having all html-escaped characters in the po files is somewhat unplesant
for translators.

[Bug 1031063] Re: internal error no supported architecture for os type 'hvm'

2014-02-25 Thread Somnath Mani
Ran in to the same issue with Ubuntu-12.04. I am trying to set up nova compute
in a VM. I wanted to use libvit_type=qemu but i kept getting the error hvm not
supported.
Just when I was about to give up and try to reboot my host with nested
virtualization capability, I realized that I was adding
libvirt_type=qemu in /etc/nova/nova.conf while I should really be adding it in
/etc/nov/nova-compute.conf

Doing that resolved my issue! I can now launch a nested VM using qemu.
Hope this helps someone :-)

libvirt_type=qemu in /etc/nova/nova.conf while I should really be adding it in
/etc/nov/nova-compute.conf

Doing that resolved my issue! I can now launch a nested VM using qemu.
Hope this helps someone :-)

[Bug 1176429] Re: fglrx-updates 2:9.000-0ubuntu0.3: fglrx-updates kernel module failed to build

2013-05-05 Thread Mani Sabri
It happend after I installed linux-image-generic-lts-raring and after that
linux-headers-3.5.0-28-generic which tried to compile the fglrx .
I had no such a problem with linux-image-generic-lts-quantal and kernel 3.5
headers are installed and everything was compiled ok. (and I'm using it now) I
thought it will be the same for raring . (also having lts in their name had a
great role in thinking they should work)

2013-01-11 Thread Mani Sabri
The changes applied to AddFact, categories and tag_str in old patches does not
work either.
You can't apply the patches because the hamster.py is changed.
I applied them manually and traceback is gone but the activity does not appear
in hamster either.

 Title:
rhythmbox freezing when trying to play an audio CD

Status in The Rhythmbox Music Management Application:
  New
Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I am using Rhythmbox 0.11.2 from Ubuntu gutsy.
Whenever I try to open a CD from one of my drives (a DVD reader and a DVD
writer) from within rhythmbox, the player freezes and I have to terminate
it. I can play correctly every CD i want from Sound Juicer. I also tried
with and without the 'random', but it does not change.
The apport report should include data from the freeze, as I selected the
send a bug report immediately before freezing rhythmbox. However, I will
attach the last lines of the 'rhythmbox -d' log (where there is reference
 to /media/hdc/).

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. insert an audio CD
  2. open Rhythmbox
  3. try to make rhythmbox play the cd by clicking twice on a cd track or
 on the cd name

  What happens:
  nothing, rhytmbox freezes

What should happen: rhythmbox should play the cd correctly

Especially when detecting/accessing scanners over the network, the

[Bug 686592] [NEW] Tooltips/menus often not visibile until mouse moved over where they should appear

2010-12-07 Thread Sandro Mani
Public bug reported:

It happens quite often that tooltips / menus are not displayed until the cursor
is moved over the area where they should appear.
Following observations:
- This does not appear to be a bug in a specific driver, can reproduce it with
xorg-intel, xorg-ati and fglrx
- This does not appear to be a bug in either compiz, nor mesa: under gnome, it
is most easily reproducable with compiz enabled, but for instance on KDE the
problem is easier to reproduce without any compositing manager running at all.
- This is a regression compared to xorg-1.8 (or generally ubuntu 10.04).

A typical example video is attaced.

Re: [ubuntu-in] Fwd: [Linux-discussion] The dangers of Open Core and Canonical's admission

2010-10-19 Thread A. Mani
in politics rather than technology (even though Matt
Asay stated in the Slashdot interview that he has little use of
politics of FOSS).

Leading developers like Aaron Seigo of KDE project (who's active and
continued contributions are beyond question) has refused to sign the
Canonical Agreement
http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2010/09/copyright-assignments-gone-wild-or-why.html

The question then is why was Aaron asked to sign it in the first
place? Aaron works on the upstream KDE project. And the last time I
checked, the list of software /projects listed on
http://www.canonical.com/contributors didn't include KDE or Kubuntu. I
would be happy if someone could point me what I happen to be missing
here.

So, the argument its Canonical ONLY doesn't seem to hold much water.
Aaron's post clearly identifies the points that are not quite going
right for the Agreement.

In conclusion: The reaction to my post and tweets convinces me that
that Shuttleworth may have hit the nail on the head when he spoke
about tribalism (http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/439),
unfortunately for Shuttleworth (who doesn't really have a history of
apologizing for his public mistakes / mis-steps), Aaron correctly say
that one has to lie in the bed on has made
(http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2010/07/having-made-our-beds-we-now-lie-in-them.html).
It is a very balanced post, I suggest that people read and understand
it instead of fanatical knee-jerk reactions.

As always, having been using Ubuntu from 5.x series, its a great
product, just like MacOSX is a great non-FOSS product. I would just
love Canonical to correct its act. Thats all.

Re: [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2010-05-22 Thread Sandro Mani
In karmic it should be no problem:
  - Uninstall any nvidia packages installed from the ubuntu repos
  - Download the beta driver and make it executable (chmod +x
/path/to/NVIDIA-Linux-(x86|x86_64)-256.25.run)
  - Switch to a virtual terminal (i.e. ctrl+alt+f2), login
  - Stop X: sudo service gdm stop
  - Check you've installed the build-essential package: sudo apt-get
install build-essential
  - Install the driver: sudo /path/to/NVIDIA-Linux-(x86|x86_64)-256.25.run
  - Reboot

For lucid users it is more complicated, for example see
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-install-nvidia-drivers-manually-on-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-lynx.html

(haven't tested myself).

Re: [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2010-05-22 Thread Sandro Mani
Actually since the issue has been reported to the nvidia devs only about
a month ago I'd say they have been really quick. Anyhow, for lucid users
which don't want to fiddle around too much it may be more convenient to
look if the updated driver appears in the proprietary-video-improvements
PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~albertomilone/+archive/proprietary-video-improvements)
some time soon instead of installing manually (though I have no idea if
and when it will appear).

Status in X.Org X server: Confirmed
Status in “vino” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released
Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released
Status in “vino” package in Fedora: Unknown

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: compiz

When using the nvidia-restricted or some ATI drivers and compiz desktop
effects the vnc server will not refresh the screen. This is being caused by
the xserver not getting damaged by the nvidia-restricted drivers (see
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/353126/comments/245for
details). Linked bugs confirm this is not an issue on intel chipsets or
 nv driver.

 Steps to reproduce:
 Enable desktop-effects (default) with nvidia-restricted, virtualBox's
display or some ATI driver like RV610
 Enable remote desktop
 Connect with VNC

 Results:
You see a screen snapshot of your desktop but if you click a menu item
there are no updates to the screen.
 Notes:
If you close and restart the vnc session, you get an updated snapshot but
 still no refreshes.

 Workarounds:
Use the -noxdamage argument with vncviewer. This is really inefficient and
bandwidth hungry since the whole screen refreshes.
Kill compiz and use a different wm (metacity).

[Tested with nvidia] Run compiz with the --use-root-window option, eg:
 compiz --replace --use-root-window

This bug has been confirmed by many others with linked reports. Might be an
issue with xorg since there is a report of ATI drivers with similar issues
 in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328559 .
