[Bug 1446798] Re: ExpressCard type USB3.0 adapter does not function properly

2015-05-07 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Here is the upstream bug report:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97801

Please note that I noticed while testing with upstream kernel, that the
bug manifests itself only on hotplug of the adapter. If I boot with it,
the adapter functions as expected.

[Bug 1335135] Re: PAM KWallet integration not working

2015-04-27 Thread Donatas Glodenis
It also affects Kubuntu Vivid. However, there is a twist to it, which
might be true of other affected systems as well.

I do have to enter kdewallet password after I log in through SDDM - pam-
kwallet does not work in that case. But if, before I log in through
SDDM, I login through one of the virtual consoles into the text mode
(hit Ctrl+Alt+F1 and enter my credentials), and login through SDDM
afterwards, I do not have to enter kdewallet password - pam-kwallet
works in that case.

Now, I noticed about the original reporter, that he uses encrypted home
directory (EcryptfsInUse: Yes). I do use it as well. I created a user
without encrypted home directory, and for that user pam-kwallet works as
expected.

So my guess is that the bug is related somehow to the fact that the home
directory is encrypted. May it be that pam-kwallet tries to communicate
the password to kwallet _before_ the home directory is mounted, and
therefore - fails?

I see there are people on other distributions testing the same
hypothesis: https://www.redhat.com/archives/pam-
list/2014-October/msg0.html

By the way, even if I have the pam-kwallet working on the unencrypted
home dir, I still have the zombie kwalletd process.

[Bug 1446798] Re: ExpressCard type USB3.0 adapter does not function properly

2015-04-25 Thread Donatas Glodenis
~jsalisbury , I need your input before I proceed sending bug report to
kernel. Once I started reporting the bug I noticed, that on the new
kernel the problem is even worse: the expressCard is recognized (I see
output in dmesg), but once I attach the external drive to it nothing is
reported in dmesg, it is not reported in lsusb, etc.

So, I would say, either the problem is different using the upstream
kernel (regression got even worse), or the upstream kernel is not
compatible with Ubuntu Vivid enough to see the problem the same way
(now, otherwise the system seems to be behaving just fine, everything is
working with the new kernel...)

What do you think?

Well, I could perhaps do the steps describet in source [0], but I am
just a hobbyist Linux user and - at a loss determining, which kernel
mailing list I should send the information to. Any ideas?

[Bug 1446798] Re: ExpressCard type USB3.0 adapter does not function properly

2015-04-22 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Installed the suggested upstream kernel, and the bug also affects it. So
I marked the bug with the tag bug-exists-upstream.

Also tried to install the latest Utopic kernel to test with it. Test
failed: the Utopic kernel did not recognize not only the usb drive
attached through the expressCard adapter, it did not recognize the drive
when attached to normal USB2 port.

[Bug 1443321] [NEW] Sharing a folder in Kubuntu asks for kpackagekit, which is long not available

2015-04-13 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

When attempting to share a folder in Kubuntu Vivid freshly installed,
the system attempts to find executable kpackagekit in order to install
samba, and upon not finding it displays the corresponding error message.

The function to initiate install of missing dependencies directly from
Share tab of Folder settings used is working in Kubuntu 14.04.

A further issue is, that, even once I install samba using other means,
the sharing of folders does not work in case I share it only with
specific users (I did not test if it works if I make it public). If I
share a folder and specify that it is shared only for my user, I cannot
access the shared folder from network. To fix this situation I have to
create a samba user corresponding to my user by running in command line

sudo smbpasswd -a username

Then it starts working.

It should be trivial to fix this last issue, and this would mean a huge
usability improvement for Kubuntu.

[Bug 1440151] [NEW] Cannot get past sddm login screen in Kubuntu Vivid

2015-04-03 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

Couple days ago I installed Kubuntu Vivid on Lenovo Thinkpad x220 tablet
(amd64 version from daily iso). Encrypted home directory, SSD type
drive.

Today I could not enter my Plasma desktop. The sddm display manager gets
stuck after I fill in the password and press Enter. Sometimes the mouse
pointer disappears, and sometimes it turns into a black X symbol. It
hangs like this till I kill it (sudo service sddm restart)

I can login to tt1-6 allright.

I tried installing slim and lxdm managers, but they do the same - get
stuck after filling the password (mouse pointer disappears). I also
tried reinstalling sddm (it updated two times in the repositories even
today, so I updated to the new verisons, to no avail).

I have no clue how to troubleshoot this problem. Please tell me. If it
is done sooner than sunday, I will try to gather whatever information I
can from the system. Otherwise I will have to reinstall Kubuntu (perhaps
14.10 version) as I do need that machine to function.

There are other reports of this happening:

[Bug 451108] Re: Asus Wireless button not updating WLED

2012-10-21 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Same problem still exists on Asus A8F in Precise.

Here are the reference bug reports upstream, both of which are closed
without fixing.

It appears that there is no way to control the wireless led apart from
acpi scripts in some models of Asus laptops.

So please do fix the acpi scripts, so they control the toggle.

[Bug 912106] [NEW] PolicyKit KDE dialog, asking for password, should preselect the current user

2012-01-04 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

This is a wish, so please forward it to the appropriate place if needed.

PolicyKit KDE dialog, when asking for password, presents an empty user
field even if the current user has the sudo privileges – I think it
should preselect the current user and not ask for this extra step (in
absolutely most cases it is an extra step). I do not know if it is
possible to detect the users with appropriate privileges at runtime
without a practical trial, but if it is, and the current user does not
have those privileges, leaving the field empty would be normal in that
case.

For example, it is not clear from the above posts what the problem is
exactly, for it has variously been described before. Does the second

[Bug 882932] Re: libreoffice-kde causes libreoffice to crash during bibliography finalization

2011-10-28 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Hi, to the best of my knowledge, I do run a completely up-to-date
oneiric system. All packages are fully updated.

my /etc/apt/sources.list file is pasted here:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/721450

Output of
sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade informs me that my system is
up to date.

Also I tested the first two packages reported above as having outdated
debug symbol and I cannot find anything wrong:

dg@bala:~/Dokumentai$ LC_ALL=en apt-cache policy libtiff4
libtiff4:
  Installed: 3.9.5-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.9.5-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.9.5-1ubuntu1 0
990 http://lt.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
dg@bala:~/Dokumentai$ LC_ALL=en apt-cache policy libavahi-common3
libavahi-common3:
  Installed: 0.6.30-4ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.6.30-4ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.6.30-4ubuntu1 0
990 http://lt.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

So I did not continue with the other packages.

it is the second time I am submitting this bug report. I will probably
not do it the third time, because:

1. It is time consuming
2. I see no real reason for it's marking invalid. I have attached a java crash
report, that was not evaluated.

This bug is reproducible, and so it is possible that someone else can
submit a crash report (maybe that is easier with a freshly installed
system, which mine is not). This bug has been randomly reported on the
internet elsewhere. There is even a workaround for it.

So my suggestion would be:

1. Reopen it
2. mark it as incomplete or whatever – it is possible that someone else can
produce a valid backtrace, or maybe even a developer in charge of this bug can
reproduce it with a valid backtrace.

I think you should not ask the users for the hardly possible.

[Bug 881264] [NEW] libreoffice-kde causes libreoffice to crash and bibus to freeze during bibliography finalization

2011-10-25 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

I am using Kubuntu Oneiric, up to date.

This is a bug, it is perfectly reproducible. Libreoffice crashes and
leaves a java crash trace (attached), bibus freezes... It happens both
with bibus from Natty (since Oneiric version has a dependency issue,
this is the first I tried), bibus from oneiric (installed using dpkg -i
--force-depends), and the debian package from the bibus website. When I
removed libreoffice-kde, finalization started to work.

I would gladly report this upstream, just I do not know which upstream?
libreoffice? Java? Bibus? Python?

When started from the command line, Bibus shows this trace:

[Bug 881264] Re: libreoffice-kde causes libreoffice to crash and bibus to freeze during bibliography finalization

2011-10-25 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I did another test that might be relevant:

I ran Libreoffice with gnome environment:

OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome oowriter

So I did not see the kde integration. However, when selecting
OpenOffice.org Finalize in Bibus it starts finalization, proceeds a
little further than before and then freezes. Libreoffice does not crash,
but the finalized document is not produced...

Not sure what to make of this. Does this mean that the very presence of
package libreoffice-kde makes finalization not work?

I did yet another test, running libreoffice and bibus from fluxbox

The results are the same as described in the above test, when running

So, it does seem that installation of libreoffice-kde prevents bibus and
libreoffice from finalizing bibliographies.

[Bug 862964] Re: With desktop effects enabled, kwin window decorations are badly distorted (Oneiric, Video card: Radeon 9200, driver radeon)

2011-10-14 Thread Donatas Glodenis
In my case the actual bug seems to be the failing support for my video
card by the new raster qt graphics subsystem, which becomes default in
kde 4.7. The upstream bug report for this is here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=282882

See if running this command via Alt-F2 helps:

kwin --graphicssystem native --replace

to go back to distorted window decorations, do this:

kwin --graphicssystem raster --replace

(just do not run these in Konsole; for some reason, when you close the
Konsole window afterwards, the kwin will be gone as well :)

A workaround, which makes kwin use native graphicssystem as a default,
is described in the upstream bug report as well. But it is not a
permanent one, you would have to reapply the fix every time kwin is
updated. So, anyone willing to read it and present a permanent
alternative, working on Kubuntu?

[Bug 862964] [NEW] With desktop effects enabled, kwin window decorations are badly distorted (Oneiric, Video card: Radeon 9200, driver radeon)

2011-09-29 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

The distortions of window decorations are visible when desktop effects
are enabled, even if every single desktop effect is turned off via
SystemSettings.

The distortions disappear if I disable desktop effects. If I change
windows decoration type, the distortions remain, so it is not the oxygen

[Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)

2011-09-21 Thread Donatas Glodenis
To upgrade to kernel from Maverick, go to Konsole, and do:

wget
http://ubuntu.linux-bg.org/ubuntu//pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-2.6.35-30-generic_2.6.35-30.54_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.35-30-generic_2.6.35-30.54_i386.deb

Then reboot and choose the older kernel.

You can also upgrade to a kernel from oneiric. You will have to find it
in packages.ubuntu.com, download it, install it and then download and
install the missing dependencies also from oneiric. I have tried it, it
works, but I found it simpler to use the older kernel just when I want
to watch movies through my tv screen.

Is there an easy way to roll back to 10.04 without a fresh install? Or
can you upgrade the kernel without completely installing Oneiric?

2011-09-21 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I should have written To DOWNGRADE to kernel from Maverick or rather,
to INSTALL a kernel from Maverick, actually, since it is rather
downgrade than upgrade, and not a real downgrade either, unless you
remove the natty kernel afterwards.

[Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)

2011-09-14 Thread Donatas Glodenis
There was another kernel update (2.6.38-11-generic), but the flicker
problem did not go away. Well, Oneiric is coming soon... Although it
sucks you have to stick to workarounds for 6 months, at least we do have
a few workarounds in case of this bug.

[Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)

2011-07-24 Thread Donatas Glodenis
as mentioned in comment #41 the kernel upgrade partially fixed the
problem. As for my computer (specs described in a duplicate Bug #782887)
all seems to be fine except that the tv-screen (not the laptop screen)
flickers every 10 seconds exactly. I tried running xrandr without any
arguments and it seems that the flicker I get every 10 seconds is the
same as the one I get when running xrandr. Must be related to some
system-run xrandr probe?

Is there a way to disable the system probes?

[Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)

2011-07-01 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I installed a kernel from Oneiric on my Natty system, and the s-video is
working as well.

the installed kernel: 3.0-2-generic

I think this completely proves that the problem is in the Natty kernel
and not in xserver-xorg-video-intel package. Please change the package
that this bug is filed against...

I have also reinstalled the last kernel from maverick-updates in my i686

s-video output without any problems.

Should the bug be reassigned to kernel?

[Bug 451108] Re: Asus Wireless button not updating WLED

2011-05-16 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Same problem still exists on Asus A8F in Natty. I still have to fix/add
the scripts

/etc/acpi/events/asus-wireless
==
event=hotkey (ATKD|HOTK) 005d
 action=/etc/acpi/asus-wireless.sh
==

/etc/acpi/asus-wireless.sh
==
#!/bin/sh
# Find and toggle wireless devices on Asus laptops

test -f /usr/share/acpi-support/state-funcs || exit 0

. /usr/share/acpi-support/state-funcs

toggleAllWirelessStates;

# Update the Asus LED to reflect the new status of the wireless
! isAnyWirelessPoweredOn;
setLEDAsusWireless $?
==

and even add the section to file
/usr/share/acpi-support/state-funcs
at the very end of it:

==
# Pass '1' to light LED and '0' to dark LED – added back in by donatas
setLEDAsusWireless()
{
action=`test $1 -ne 0  echo 1 || echo 0`

# (Older) asus-acpi module
test -w /proc/acpi/asus/wled echo -n $action /proc/acpi/asus/wled

# (Newer) asus-laptop module
test -w /sys/devices/platform/asus_laptop/wlan echo -n $action
/sys/devices/platform/asus_laptop/wlan
}
==

which was previously present in this file (in Karmic perhaps) but
removed since.

[Bug 782887] [NEW] tv-out does not work after upgrade to natty

2011-05-14 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

TV-out stopped working after upgrade to Natty. I suspect xserver-xorg-
video-intel driver.

After plugging in the S-Video cable to computer and tv I see it is
enabled by running

dg@bala:~$ xrandr

this is not a hardware problem. Also it used to be working in Maverick

[Bug 782031] [NEW] The fourth plural form is missing from Lithuanian localizations

2011-05-13 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-kde-lt-base

KDE Lithuanian translation has 4 plural forms instead of the 3 usually
used when localizing OSS projects. So the plural header of each *.po
file looks like this:

Plural-Forms: nplurals=4; plural=(n==1 ? 0 : n%10==1  n%100!=11 ? 1 : n
%10=2  (n%10010 || n%100=20) ? 2 : 3);\n

But the actual plural forms are cut to three, leaving out the fourth
form:

msgid 1 action
msgid_plural %1 actions
msgstr[0] 1 veiksmas
msgstr[1] %1 veiksmas
msgstr[2] %1 veiksmai

The missing string is:

msgstr[3] %1 veiksmų

This example is taken form
/usr/share/locale-langpack/lt/LC_MESSAGES/krunner.mo
file of the package version
language-pack-kde-lt-base-11.04+20110421

but the problem is common to all translations in that package (of course
it goes back to source package).

I think this is a regression from the times of Lucid, it was solved
then, and the problem was, that Launchpad translation system assumed a
language in Launchpad has the same number of plural forms for all
packages/projects.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.04

While the expected behaviour is for the interface to show correct
strings of plural forms, the actual behaviour is that the fourth form is
substituted by the first, thus, for example, in the countdown before
shutdown we get:

Atsijungiama po 1 sekundės. (should be 30 sekundžių).
Atsijungiama po 29 sekundžių (correct)
. (correct)
Atsijungiama po 21 sekundės (correct)
Atsijungiama po 1 sekundės (should be 20 sekundžių)

Atsijungiama po 9 sekundžių (correct)

[Bug 782031] Re: The fourth plural form is missing from Lithuanian localizations

2011-05-13 Thread Donatas Glodenis
A workaround for this problem would be installing kde-l10n-lt package
perhaps – I have just updated to kde 4.6.3 from kubuntu ppa, and the
problem went away, because this package from ppa was automatically
installed.

I just checked and the package kde-l10n-lt (4:4.6.2-0ubuntu1) from
natty main repositories does not have the above mentioned problem.

[Bug 667704] Re: Servicemenu installation fails

2011-01-28 Thread Donatas Glodenis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 706900 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/706900

I think the other bug, bug #706900, should be marked as duplicate of
this bug, if at all.

bug #706900 says that the fix is simple – install ruby. But in case of
this bug, this is not the case, since ruby does not solve all the
problems, as the description of the bug suggests and as Sam Rog says
above (#2).

Perhaps this one shoud be redescribed as a problem when ruby IS
installed, while the other one – as a simple dependency on a package in
a different repository problem.

[Bug 530264] Re: Can't find bluetooth headset in the sound devices list

2010-11-20 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I think I have the same issue, though I am not sure...

Both Blueman-applet and kde's bluedevil successfully pair the headset
and the computer. They both initially connect (it is more difficult to
do that the second any next time, untill you reboot). And ONCE I did get
the bluetooth headset working, but I cannot replicate that (and that
successful instance was with packages from pulseaudio-dev ppa, so lets
forget it).

So, the bluetooth headset does not apper in kmix lists of devices

I will be happy to provide any other input I am told to. For now please
find the attached pulseaudio log and the following info:

[Bug 530264] Re: Can't find bluetooth headset in the sound devices list

2010-11-20 Thread Donatas Glodenis
By the way, I have tried the instructions supplied here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothHeadset

and it failed at the step 11. Those modules were already loaded before I
started the process. So the error was as described above at #9

The step 12 also failed:

aplay -D btheadset -f s16_le /usr/share/sounds/k3b_error1.wav
ALSA lib audio/pcm_bluetooth.c:1607:(audioservice_expect) BT_GET_CAPABILITIES
failed : Input/output error(5)
aplay: main:654: audio open error: Input/output error

By the way, I believe those instructions are outdated, I should not be
creating the ~/.asoundrc file for my bluetooth headset to work in
Maverick, or should I?

[Bug 667704] [NEW] Servicemenu installation fails

2010-10-28 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin

Installation of Service Menus via Dolphin settings fails. There are
several reasons:

1. For the installation to work, a dependency, ruby, must be installed,
or so I heard. And it is not installed by default (it is only in
suggests list of apt), though it is in the main repository (maybe
libkde4-ruby is also required, it is in the universe though). Therefore
the servicemenus get downloaded to ~/.kde/share/apps/servicemenu-
download/ but they even fail to uncompress.

2. Even with ruby installed, the servicemenus do get uncompressed but
the message indicator reports that „service menu installation failed“,
and nothing appears in ~/.kde/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/. An
exception: installation works if it is only a plain text file
servicemenu that is downloaded from kde-apps.org.

Now if you go to the uncompressed servicemenu package folder, for example,
~/.kde/share/apps/servicemenu-download/124416-DropboxServiceMenu-0.14.6.tar.gz-dir/DropboxServiceMenu-0.14.6/
and run
./install-it.sh

it installs nicely.

Tested on: Kubuntu Lucid and Maverick
KDE: 4.5.1 (on two different machines, one with Lucid and upgraded to Maverick,
one with fresh Maverick install)

Re: [Bug 565294] Re: Plural translations are broken for Lithuanian language

2010-04-27 Thread Donatas Glodenis
2010/4/27 Gintautas Miliauskas gintau...@miliauskas.lt:
A preliminary analysis of all modules on l10n.gnome.org shows 619
strings with plurals. We might be able to upgrade them to the new
plurals gradually over time, but I think it's a bit too much work for a
 single strong push.

I wonder if there is a possibility to filter out all the strings with
plural forms into separate files, then quickly distribute the files to
multiple translators, then merge back the translations – it could be a
very quick operation. I would contribute.

We did that with KDE when we needed to switch from using „byla“ to
„failas“. But that was filtering based on keyword, which is possible
thanks to translate-toolkit. Does anybody know if such filtering is
possible based on the presence of plural forms?

Re: [Bug 565294] Re: Plural translations are broken for Lithuanian language

2010-04-23 Thread Donatas Glodenis
2010/4/23 Rimas Kudelis r...@akl.lt:
 2010.04.23 00:35, Andrius Štikonas rašė:
Данило, now it is of course too late but should KDE Lithuanian team move
the really singular form to the msgstr[3]  for KDE S.C. 4.5? It should
be possible to write a script that does this.

Shouldn't we discuss the possibility to move to 4 plurals in all
projects first? I think if we agreed on that, it would probably make
more sense to list them in correct order (1, 2, 10, 21).

 Rimas

I would agree – it is of course an OT matter for this particular bug
report, but it has to be done first.

Would Andrius raise the issue in komp...@konf.lt? I will second the
suggestion.

And Rimas, could you count how many strings would be affected in, for
example, Firefox, or Gnome? these numbers would be nice to have at the
beginning of the discussion.

It was not a very big transition for KDE, one person did it, actually,
and KDE must be as big as Gnome, Firefox and OpenOffice.org taken
together :)

Re: [Bug 565294] Re: Plural translations are broken for Lithuanian language

2010-04-19 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I see that getting rid of launchpad integration is problematic.
However, as I have mentioned, it is more than just us who may want to
bypass Launchpad. I will communicate with the Kubuntu team about the
issue that is being disclosed here.

2010/4/18 Jonathan Thomas echidna...@kubuntu.org:
I should add, though, that .desktop translation templates shouldn't be
blocked, if the decision is to not use Launchpad translations. Since the
desktop translations get stripped from the packages (where upstream
distributes them), the langpacks are the only source of translations.

Does it often happen that .desktop files contain plural forms? I should
check...

[Bug 565294] Re: Plural translations are broken for Lithuanian language

2010-04-18 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I would vote for Rimas' suggestion b) – not to import Lithuanian KDE
translations to Launchpad at all.

It is also consistent with the Kubuntu developers' position on the
temporary suspension of the usage of Launchpad:

The project Timelord articulates this position:

„For the reasons mentioned above, the Project Timelord team has deemed that in
Kubuntu's current state, using the Launchpad Translations system is
counter-productive
to achieving the goal of a localized, human KDE experience. During the Kubuntu
9.10
development cycle, a concentrated, cooperative effort between Kubuntu and
Launchpad
developers occurred to try to improve KDE translations in Kubuntu. Great
improvements
were made to this point, and while we appreciate the time and effort the Ubuntu
Translations team has taken to improve the current situation for Kubuntu, we
must face
the facts that given current developer and translator resources that Kubuntu is
unable to
use this translation architecture in a productive manner.“ (see
http://www.kubuntu.org/news/timelord for details).

Also we should perhaps raise the question about changing the number of
plural forms with other developers and translators in Lithuania to
perpahs switch to 4 forms... Would it be possible to achieve, what do
you think?

[Bug 311258] Re: Few Zeroconf Service Types Work in Dolphin

2009-01-12 Thread Donatas Glodenis
This bug affects me too. I have three services declared in
/etc/avahi/services/ in three computers on my local network and I get
only the ssh services through the konqueror/dolphin zeroconf:/ kioslave.

Here is the output of mdns-scan:

s...@bala:~$ mdns-scan

+ Samba shares on bala._smb._tcp.local

+ fish:/ prisijungimas į meldas._fish._tcp.local
+ meldas [00:15:af:a7:52:62]._workstation._tcp.local
Browsing ... \

When I enter plain zeroconf:/ into the browser, I get a folder
Nutolęs diskas (fish) (which means Remote disk (fish)

when I open it, I see a list of three entries remote terminal on
Hostname - weird, I expected remote disks here !

and the browser address bar changes to:
zeroconf:/_ssh._tcp

But when I click on one of tose icons, I can get connected to a remote
server through the fish protocol. So the zeroconf does not display most
of the service types, and in part reports wrongly those it does detect.

I am using kde 4.1.3 on Kubuntu Intrepid.

There is a thread about this problem on forums.kde.org:

[Bug 303470] Re: Recording no longer works in Intrepid for Asus A8Jm (ICH7 snd_hda_intel)

2009-01-08 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I finally did get the microphone to work in my Asus A8F by installing
the current development snapshot of alsa (post 1.0.18a thing - the
current stable 1.0.18a version did not do the trick).

To install the current (2008-01-08) snapshot I used a script posted in
this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=962695

I lost all sound once after the upgrade of alsa, but generally it seems
to work ok. Good luck anyone trying it.

[Bug 303470] Re: Recording no longer works in Intrepid for Asus A8Jm (ICH7 snd_hda_intel)

2009-01-06 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Same (perhaps) problem on Asus A8F with the same Analog Devices AD1986A
chip. when run with the current kernel (Ubuntu 8.10, kernel
2.6.27-9-generic) there is no external mic option in kmix or alsamixer
although there is one when run with an older kernel (2.6.24-21-generic).
Neither internal nor external mic works in skype. It used to work in
previous versions of ubuntu.

I am running Kubuntu by the way.

I am interested in seeing this bug resolved, so I could provide any
tests needed to get more info about this problem. Just tell me.

[Bug 186451] Re: No menu icon

2008-11-16 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I am not sure if it is the same problem, but on Ubuntu 8.10 the KDE4
rkward package (version 0.5.0b-2) menu entry does not have an icon on
the KDE 4 desktop.

The problem seems to be this: the appropriate icons are misplaced either
by design (it would be an upstream problem then) or during compiliation
on Ubuntu.

The appropriate icons are installed to:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/l10n/hicolor/rkward.png
(the same for other icon sizes: 64x64 and others)
while they should go to
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/rkward.png
If you move the icons to the right place, they appear in the menu.

Also the there are two other icons missing in the UI:
One for „dataset“
and one for „script file“

I guess the problem with those icons is, that they are generic KDE icons
and not those installed with rkward (in KDE3 they look like source.png
and spreadsheet.png, though I may be wrong too), and when installed on
KDE4 they are not found somehow.

[Bug 294610] Re: [intrepid]rkward 0.5.0b-2 in Intrepid Ibex starts but doesn't work. No icons no starting page

2008-11-16 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I had the same problem, and it just disappeared yesterday, perhaps after
the latest kde updates and reinstall of rkward... do not know why. But
here is my try to explain:

If you compile rkward from source using the command sequence
cmake .
make
make install

Rkward gets installed in /usr/local/ and all the menu items and start page are
visible.
However, if I try to install it to /usr by following the install instructions
and build it with
cmake . -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$KDEDIR
I get it installed in / instead, however weird it might sound. And I get the
problems described here: missing menu items and no start page

so I did
echo $KDEDIR
and got an empty string

then I rebuild rkward with
cmake . -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr
and everything was fine again.

So I can simulate the problem, but it does not help me to explain, why
did the problem suddenly go away.

[Bug 156109] Re: Lithuanian translation of Guidance includes hyeroglypha

2008-11-14 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Not that I can see - so perhaps this bug should be closed for now. Also
I cannot find the formerly present *guidance*.po file in either
Lithuanian or Russian sources of language-pack-kde-*-base packages;

The System settings module, where it was visible - utility to manage
displays - is, I guess, replaced by krandr. Another place - the user
configuration module - is not available at all.

It was, however, present in 8.04 version, despite the fact that I have
previously uploaded the proper file to the launchpad repository.

hibernate/suspend works fine with intel driver (this eliminates the need

I have previously uploaded a correct version of guidance.po file to

[Bug 156109] Lithuanian translation of Guidance includes hyeroglypha

2007-10-23 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-kde-lt-base

Because of an upstream problem Lithuanian translation of kde-guidance in
Kubuntu Gutsy includes lots of hyeroglypha instead of Lithuanian
translations. This basically makes many modules of systemsettings
unusable.

The upstream problem has been reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-guidance/+bug/133315

Lithuanian language pack needs to be regenerated. I have already
uploaded the proper translation of guidance to launchpad.

[Bug 74570] Re: Command mount produces a list of partitions with wrong numbers

2007-07-22 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I do not see that the problem has been solved - all I mentioned above
was, that I made a mistake, which has little to do with the problem.
Unless you mean it was really solved, but then it would be good to get
some information about the solution before closing the bug report.

[Bug 110416] Re: Sound card no longer works after Feisty install

I have an asus a8f laptop and after upgrade to feisty I lost my sound as
well. It still works with the kernel that came with edgy (byt webcam
does not, so I cannot make it default...)

I see kmix now has more options for sound control than it had in edgy...

I am attaching a file with most of the output from

Could provide more info should this be needed, just write a request in a

[Bug 77780] Re: language-pack-kde-lt-base includes some fuzzy translation strings marked as OK

2007-02-11 Thread Donatas Glodenis
After the recent upgrade of the package the problem is back! How come, I
have corrected the problem in the launchpad, and expected the upgrade to
fix this for everybody (I have recompiled the package to fix the problem
for myself before).

However, now I see that the problem simply reappeared in the launchpad

[Bug 63435] Re: problem with acpi suspend/hibernate (edgy beta1)

2007-02-03 Thread Donatas Glodenis
So I could not reproduce the recover from hibernate problem when an usb
disk is plugged in. But it happened once without any peripherals plugged
in, so it might not be connected to usb devices after all.

The computer recovered, asked for my password, and immediately after I
saw my desktop I saw black screen again and the computer wįas turned off
in a few seconds. After that I turned it on and it recovered from
hibernation again, nicely this time.

I attach a file with the outputs you specified. Hope that helps.

[Bug 30207] Re: media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly

2007-01-21 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Yes, and more: the Edgy's patched version, which, upon clicking the
Storage media displays /media instead of media:/ , does not contain a
clickable floppy icon at all. So the user is left clueless as to when he
is to click it. And obviously, the floppy drive does not detect an
inserted media as it is with USB drive...

If you write in media:/ , you do get the floppy icon, but clicking on it
produces as little as before.

[Bug 61850] Re: Kexi cannot access PostgreSQL databases anymore

2007-01-19 Thread Donatas Glodenis
The above mentioned Kexi page gives a false reason for the problem. The
Kexi packages in the official repository, version 1:1.5.2-0ubuntu2.1
REPLACES the kexi-postgresql-driver package, so it is not an issue of
them being in different repositories.

I can confirm the problem on my computer running Edgy as well.

[Bug 63435] Re: problem with acpi suspend/hibernate (edgy beta1)

2007-01-18 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Now, with Edgy, I use power manager (the defaul program) and not
kpowersave, and I do not have that problem any more - my laptop does
hibernation and suspend quite successfully.

However, I have noticed that if I have a bluetooth usb stick inserted
(and maybe a simple usb memory stick as well), I get strange effects:
after resuming from hibernate the computer in about half a minute
suddenly shuts down. What logs I should attach to help you find what the
problem is?

I can do other testing things as well if someone tells me what to do.
Would the logs you referred to above be still useful?

Another thing on Edgy: after upgrade to Edgy the hibernate did not work,
only the suspend. Later I noticed, that the problem was, that the
upgrade corrupted my swap partition (it was no longer displayed as swap)
and so there was nowhere to hibernate. This also happened on my home
computer, so it must be a problem.

[Bug 77780] language-pack-kde-lt-base includes some fuzzy translation strings marked as OK

2007-01-03 Thread Donatas Glodenis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-kde-lt-base

Package in Edgy includes three files that have been generated with some
fuzzy strings marked as ok strings.

One of those files

language-pack-kde-lt-base: usr/share/locale-
langpack/lt/LC_MESSAGES/korganizer.mo

makes Kmail menu Message look strange:

Message
 Copy to
 #-#-#-#-# kmail.po (kmail) #-#-#-#-# Move to #-#-#-#-# kopete.po (kopete)
 #-#-#-#-# Move to

while it should be simply Move to displayed

I will attach a screenshot with a lithuanian strings displayed.

The other files are konversation.mo and libkcal.mo:
=
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/locale-langpack/lt/LC_MESSAGES$ grep #-#-# *
Binary file konversation.mo matches
Binary file korganizer.mo matches
Binary file libkcal.mo matches
=

I have corrected the files on Rosetta today (imported upstream versions
of korganizer.po and libkcal.po and a corrected version of
konversation.po) so THE PACKAGE NEEDS TO BE SIMPLY REGENERATED FROM
SOURCES.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

The problem comes from the Rosetta version of korganizer.po and other
files for edgy, the upstream files from KDE branch stable ( except for
konversation which is not there, and I have not checked its upstream) do
not contain the problem. I am not sure who made the mistake - though it
might be that it is not the translators mistake, but some other problem
on Rosetta.

Interestingly, if I move the file korganizer.mo, the menu entry in Kmail
gets displayed correctly, and - in Lithuanian! So the program does take
the string from somewhere else.

I have no clue where from the correct string comes. I don't have the package
kde-i18n-lt installed, I only have
language-pack-lt-base and language-pack-lt (and the last one does not have file
korganizer.mo in it).

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebluetooth

If I enter bluetooth:/ in the Konqueror address bar, I usually get just
the localhost device. there might be tens of bluetooth mobile phones
around, including mine, but bluetooth:/ does not report this.

It does that, however, if I preceed bluetooth:/ with a command on the

hotkey ATKD 005d 0001

but the wireless does not go up actually - I can no longer detect
networks

The keys that produce no keycode:

* Bluetooth key (I dont have internal bluetooth, though)
* Splendid key (S on top of a monitor picture, on windows it provides different
profiles of brightness/contrast, some special asus thing). Maybe it could be
used for something as well?
* Media player key (a music sign in a square window), which could lounch a
media player.

Output about my laptop:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name

[Bug 63435] Re: problem with acpi suspend/hibernate (edgy beta1)

2006-10-06 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I have a problem of suspend/hibernate not working on asus laptop. Below
I include copies of some correspondence with powersave people.

Klaptop did work with suspend/hibernate untill I installed 915resolution
package. From then on it also fails to work.

If I could be of any help to further investigate the problem, please let
me know.

Hi, maybe I could help you with testing kpowersave, and you help me with
my laptop problem? :)

I just bought an ASUS A8F laptop (see full config below), installed
Kubuntu dapper, and I have problems with suspend and hibernate using the
kpowersave version 0.6.0.

Klaptopdaemon did not have problems with suspend/resume untill I
installed 915resolution package. Now it does well with hybernate, but
recovering from suspend just halts the computer. It does not manage the
power profiles at all :)

Anyway, I like kpowersave much better. But kpowersave:

On suspend: I get a strange stripped screen upon recovering from
suspend, cannot switch to any console, I exit just by forced shut down.

On hibernate: I loose my 1280x800 resolution (provided by 915resolution
package; I get the stretched 1074x764 resolution) and also the session
(get a kdm login screen).

So, maybe you could tell me what debugging info should I send you to
improve support of my type of laptop, and maybe you have suggestions on
how to change the scripts so that they start to function properly? e.g.,
the 915 resolution might have something to do with it (see
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=151222page=10 ).

 Hi,

Sorry for the lag. Your problems with KPowersave are problems with
powersave - the daemon which handle all the suspend/standby actions which
 are triggered by KPowersave.

I added the powersave users mailinglist to CC, where you get more support
for your problem with powersave. You can subscribe to the list under:
 http://forge.novell.com/mailman/listinfo/powersave-users

 Cheers,

 Danny

Try using s2ram and follow the advice on http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram

Yes, you need to patch the videobios after resume and before switching
 to the X console.

Powersave is prepared to do this for you, but only if there is a config
file /etc/sysconfig/videobios with a variable VIDEOBIOS_PATCH=yes and an
init script /etc/init.d/boot.videobios which calls 855resolution or
915resolution. Take a look into the 855resolution-rpm for openSUSE or send
a patch to integrate ubuntu's solution for 915resolution into
 /usr/lib/powersave/scripts/prepare_suspend_to_disk

BTW: there are also examples in contrib/video_bios_{suspend,resume} on how
to do this as a custom event script.
