Is this the first time you are trying Ubuntu? If not, did any previous versions work properly? Check if you have the proper drivers in xorg.conf for your motherboard on board graphics card (http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2model=377l1=3l2=14l3=149l4=0). I have used 6.06 since its release on the same system and if i remember correctly there was an issue with the live CD last time too and i had used alternate CD. But since than dapper had worked without any problem. As regards the current situation with freeze-up/crashes and corrupted graphicswell since there was no solution on the horizon and since i saw no hope of a fix i decided to go by my hunch and i have just finished clean re-installation of gutsy using alternate CD(ubuntu7.10-alternate-amd64) And now i am trying it out and uptil now no freeze-up and no graphics corruption!!!hurray,,,happy days are back again!. i have not installed flash or java plug-in uptill now(which i suspect could have done something last time). I am going to be alert as to when the trouble starts this time(if it starts at all). i am keeping my fingers crossed. nanbudh - Save all your chat conversations. From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of nan budh Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2007 6:54 PM To: Ubuntu India Local Community Subject: [ubuntu-in] Gutsy problems on Athlon Guys please help me. suggest me what to do. i installed gutsy on athon 64 2800+. its freezing/ crashing/ becoming totally unresponsive at least half of the times i start it up. Often it happen when there is are two programs running like firefox and pidgeon or synaptic. Second problem is that the desktop menu bar gets discoloured in rectangular patches. colours ranges from gray to bright blue. at times the patch 'bleeds' down to the open firefox window. I am not sure but i have a feeling that if i do clean install from alternative Cd maybe it will get resolved. any thoughts welcome. nanbudh ps: during installtion i forgot to make one of my disk partitions as the home directory. please tell me how can i do it now. Please tell us more about the model of your machine. What motherboard?? Or brand name etc. What graphics drivers are you using? I hope I've understood your partition question correctly. I think you already have a partition and you want to change your home directory to point to that partition. If that's the case then check out this post. http://ubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/01/29/move-home-to-its-own-partition/ Manu -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
