2011-03-09 Thread mrkschan

CloudConfig.setup_user_keys is now hard-coded to persist keys to
user/.ssh/authorized_keys. The location of authorized_keys should

[Bug 731878] [NEW] amavis force-reload crashes amavis

2011-03-09 Thread Florian Effenberger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amavisd-new

The command /etc/init.d/amavis force-reload seems to crash amavis. It
works fine in older Ubuntu releases, but in Natty, there seems to be
some timing problem:

==
Mar  9 11:45:50 myhost amavis[8166]: starting.  /usr/sbin/amavisd-new at
myhost.alkernetz amavisd-new-2.6.4 (20090625), Unicode aware, LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
Mar  9 11:45:50 myhost amavis[8166]: Perl version   5.010001
Mar  9 11:45:50 myhost amavis[8170]: (!)Net::Server: 2011/03/09-11:45:50 Can't
connect to TCP port 10024 on 127.0.0.1 [Die Adresse wird bereits verwendet]\n
at line 88 in file /usr/share/perl5/Net/Server/Proto/TCP.pm

The message means Address already in use. It seems as if amavis does
not shut down properly before restarting, then the socket cannot be
used, and then the old instance dies.

[Bug 731879] [NEW] libpam-ldap depends on ldap-auth-client

2011-03-09 Thread Bolesław Tokarski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-ldap

Installation of libpam-ldap adds loads of trash to the system.

Dependency on ldap-auth-config pulls also ldap-auth-client. As I can see
ldap-auth-config is used for configuration of PAM in some old-way (it
overwrites /etc/pam.d/common-*) and not actually using the libpam-
runtime's pam-auth-update to manage pam.d files.

Meanwhile libpam-ldap also depends on libpam-runtime! So in one package
we depend on the old and the new config way, while in fact the
postinstall script uses the new one and the user would have to run the
old one manually. Why do this at all? And why depend on ldap-auth-
client. Perhaps if somebody was interested in this, it could be
Suggested?

[Bug 731976] [NEW] Can't access Windows 7 computer via SAMBA

2011-03-09 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Hello,

I have 4 computers in my home (mine is not included), being 2 of them
Windows 7 Ultimate and 1 of them Windows XP Professional and the other
one a Windows 7 Home Premium...

PROBLEM:

I can access with my LINUX (Ubuntu 10.10 and Kubuntu 10.10) via SAMBA
the 3 computers in my home, but the other one (that is Windows 7
Ultimate) I can't, and I don't know why... The message that shows when I
try to access this PC is: Cannot connect to the pc CONCE-CPU.

IMPORTANT:

I also have a Windows 7 Ultimate in my PC (I do a DUAL-BOOT with Windows
7 and Linux Ubuntu) that can access this computer and all of the others
as well... So, the problem is not in the remote PC and not in my
machine, it's a LINUX specific problem...

DETAILS:

My LINUX: Linux kernel 2.6.35-27-generic-pae; Ubuntu/Kubuntu 10.10 ;
using most up-to-date  SAMBA ;

The Problematic Remote PC: Windows 7 Ultimate; Up-to-date (without SP1
of Windows 7); with AVAST (FREE - WITHOUT FIREWALL) and built-in Windows
FIREWALL ENABLED;

PS: I have a Windows XP Professional at home that also have AVAST and
this SAMBA problem don't happen with it...

PS²: I can ping the problematic remote PC (with Windows 7 Ultimate) with
my LINUX and the result of this pinging shows that the computer can
receive and send back my request without problems...

Thanks for your attention,

André M.

  DETAILS:

  My LINUX: Linux kernel 2.6.35-27-generic-pae; Ubuntu/Kubuntu 10.10 ;
  using most up-to-date  SAMBA ;

  The Problematic Remote PC: Windows 7 Ultimate; Up-to-date (without SP1
  of Windows 7); with AVAST (FREE - WITHOUT FIREWALL) and built-in Windows
  FIREWALL ENABLED;

+
--
+
  PS: I have a Windows XP Professional at home that also have AVAST and
  this SAMBA problem don't happen with it...

  PS²: I can ping the problematic remote PC (with Windows 7 Ultimate) with
- my LINUX and the result of this pinging shows that the computer can
- receive and send back my request without problems...
+ my LINUX if I use the IP of this problematic remote PC with the command
+ ping IP-OF-THE-REMOTE-PC (if I use the host name - that is CONCE-CPU -
+ instead of the IP, it don't answer to the ping because it shows the
+ error message ping: unknown host conce-cpu - the command syntax used
+ was ping CONCE-CPU)...

  Thanks for your attention,

  André M.

did...

Please consider -- as Connected to a Windows PC

My Windows 7 Ultimate -- Problematic Remote Windows 7 Ultimate PC
(hostname: CONCE-CPU): Could be done via \\hostname , but I could not
see the remote PC in my Workgroup (which can indicate a problem in this
PC network connection or not)...

My Linux Ubuntu and Kubuntu 10.10 -- Problematic Remote Windows 7
Ultimate PC (hostname: CONCE-CPU): Could not be done... I could see the
PC in my Workgroup with LINUX... I also could ping this pc with the
command ping IP-OF-THE-REMOTE-PC... I could not ping the same remote
pc with the command ping HOSTNAME because the error message ping:
unknown host conce-cpu raised...

My Virtualized Windows XP under my LINUX native OS (VirtualBox PUEL
technology) -- Problematic Remote Windows 7 Ultimate PC (hostname:
CONCE-CPU): Could not be done... I could see the remote PC in my
Workgroup.. .I could see the PC in my Workgroup... I also could ping

[Bug 732082] [NEW] Eucalyptus admin tools should not be shipped in eucalyptus-common package

2011-03-09 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

Currently, the eucalyptus admin tools (clc/tools/src) are shipped in the
eucalyptus-common package. This should not be the case given that these
tools can be run from any machine outside the Eucalyptus CLC or any
other node within the eucalyptus cluster.

These, however, should be shipped in their own package to allow users to
install them without having to install eucalyptus-common.

[Bug 231060] Re: packages dnsmasq and libvirt-bin conflict with each other

2011-03-09 Thread rowez
On 10.04

Netstat give me no listen on port 53 for dnsmasq after the reboot.

Installing with apt-get libvirt-bin dnsmasq dnsmasq-base give me no
error's. But no virbr0!

So setting up virbr0 with the command virsh net-define default.xml en
virsh net-autostart default is ok. But net-start default in de virsh is
not possible!

It say's: in virsh internal error exited with non-zero status 2 and
signal 0, failed to bind listening socket for

netstat: dnsmasq is listen on 0.0.0.0:53

With uncomment bind-interfaces in /etc/dnsmasq.conf and restart dnsmasq
:

netstat -nap | grep dnsmasq:

The 192.168.122.1, 127.0.0.1, 169.254.169.254, 10.0.0.51 are connect on
port 53 for tcp and udp. 0.0.0.0:67 for udp.

In virsh now net-start default without error's.

sudo virsh net-list: default active yes

add user eucalyptus in /etc/group

su eucalyptus -c virsh net-list works now.

[Bug 677764] Re: vsftpd postinstall checks for user/group starting with ftp

2011-03-09 Thread C de-Avillez
tested the SRU: installation completes without error with 'ftpfoo' and
'ftpbar' defined as users (and respective groups).

Marking verification-done.

[Bug 615810] Re: nagios3-common and nagios3-core : grep: /etc/nagios3/cgi.cfg: No such file or directory

The error seems to be cosmetic, as the service would still start (I have
not checked in depth, though). Still, the fix is trivial and really
ought to be SRU'ed at some point, IMHO.

[Bug 732306] [NEW] php escapeshellarg removes £ incorrectly

escapeshellarg unexpectedly removes £ symbols from input strings.

I was going to report this as a bug to php, but I can't reproduce this bug

Additionally there is discrepancy between the command-line runner and the

Thanks for taking the time to submit this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

This bug looks to be related to bugs 510497 and 471975.

If you've not yet made any changes to your resolvconf configuration,
then the easiest solution might be to do:

dpkg -r resolvonf
apt-get -f install
apt-get install resolvconf

Can you tell us if you installed bind9 and resolvconf in the same
command, that is

apt-get install bind9 resolvconf

as opposed to installing them separately?

It looks like the ssh package file is corrupt. Could you show the
result of

df -h

to check for a full disk? If disks are not full, then you can force the
file to be re-fetched (hopefully correctly) by doing

sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/openssh*

It goes a bit deeper though.. there is a workaround for lucid's php:

string(1) C
string(26) !+_£@#;`|*?~^()[]{}$\,
string(28) '!+_£@#;`|*?~^()[]{}$\,'
string(1) '

?php
var_dump(setlocale(LC_CTYPE, NULL));
setlocale(LC_CTYPE, en_US.UTF-8);
// test script
$before = '!+_£@#;`|*?~^()[]{}$\,';

var_dump($before);

$escaped = escapeshellarg($before);

var_dump($escaped);

for ($i=0; $i  10; $i++)
{
 var_dump($escaped[$i]);
}

?

This shows that the language was C (because I was in a minimal chroot
probably). I installed langauge-pack-en and then this script started
showing the pound symbol properly. So the real issue is making sure your
locale is set to UTF-8. This is the exact suggestion of the first
comment on http://us3.php.net/escapeshellarg

Given all of this, I think this isn't a bug that we're going to fix or
even can.. users need to be explicit about their locale if they expect
characters specific to that locale to work.

Marking as Won't Fix.

EC2 Migrate EBS AMI tool, call for volunteers

2011-03-09 Thread Ahmed Kamal

Hi everyone,

A while back I had sent an email asking for people interested in working
on a python tool to help migrate ebs AMIs across ec2 regions. Since then
the project has progressed a bit:

- Project page is now: https://launchpad.net/ec2-migrate-ebs-ami
- Project is now able to launch two utility instances in the two
specified regions, and mount the source volume in the source instance
- What remains is attaching a destination volume, and sync'ing over
contents. More details can be found on the blueprint:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/cloud-server-n-ec2-migrate-region

Development pace has now slowed down significantly, as such I am
renewing the call. This is a great way to start getting involved with
cloud development, and to join the Ubuntu Cloud and server communities!
joining in is easy, you don't even have to know lots of python to
start hacking! The steps are very well defined, and I am happy to help
with all steps along the way. If you are thinking about it, go ahead and
get in touch with me right now (kim0 on irc, kim0 AT ubuntu.com) or join
today's irc meeting (6pm-UTC #ubuntu-cloud
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuCloudMeeting)

Thanks

Re: run our business's mail server (W2003-DOMINO) as a KVM

2011-03-09 Thread Serge E. Hallyn
Quoting jurgen.depic...@let.be (jurgen.depic...@let.be):
 Hi all,

 I posted a small question on #ubuntu-server: I noticed that ubuntu 10.04.2
 LTS has quite old libvirt versions (libvir 0.7.5) which lacks many
 functions, like managedsave or snapshotting. What's the recommended way
 to get the latest versions there?

What exactly is your goal? If you just want some data snapshotted,
I would think the safest way would be to put that data on a separate
LVM partition on the host, passed in as a virtio device, and use
LVM snapshots to back up the data.

Good book recommendations ?

2011-03-09 Thread Mark van Harmelen
Hi everyone

We are getting more serious about our random collection of servers, all
running ubuntu server 10.04+, and want to buy some books that we can use to
build our knowledge and skills.

Particularly we are interested in topics like automated deployment,
configuration management, and automated backup and recovery. Nagios is also
lurking in the backs of our minds.

Does anyone have any recommendations for us please?

Thanks
Mark

virt-manager including a feature in lucid

2011-03-09 Thread Nikolai K. Bochev
Hello list ,

I am not sure if this can be done in an easy way, but upstream virt-manager
just added the ability to manually specify the network interface to which the
virtual machine should be attached. This is necessary because the only proper
way for now is by using netcf when working on a remote machine. Since i doubt
ubuntu will have it ported and working anytime soon, i was wondering if the
feature can be backported to the current lucid version of virt-manager.

The commit is right here :
http://hg.fedorahosted.org/hg/virt-manager/rev/a48333f1439d

Related talk here:

Hi fellow Zentyal users and Ubuntu Community,

ebox-ca 2.0.4-0ubuntu1
ebox-network 2.0.9-0ubuntu1
ebox-firewall 2.0.2-0ubuntu1
ebox-dns 2.0.2-0ubuntu1

To install Zentyal on Natty just run:

sudo apt-get install ebox ebox-network (... all the desired modules)

With these packaging efforts we want to confirm our commitment to the
Ubuntu community, give non LTS releases users the chance to still use
Zentyal on their servers and keep the software updated during the
way from Lucid LTS to the next LTS release.

We would like to remind you that the Zentyal official releases are always
based on the latest Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support, 5 years) release,
currently Ubuntu Lucid and these releases include the full set of available
modules.

Thanks to the Zentyal community and the Ubuntu community for providing
such friendly and warm environment where to develop this project, we
are waiting for your feedback and we are open to all kinds of contributions!
Simply give us a shout through the Zentyal Forum at: http://forum.zentyal.org/

Re: Good book recommendations ?

2011-03-09 Thread Dan Sheffner
Mark,

I would recommend The official Ubuntu server book:
http://www.amazon.com/Official-Ubuntu-Server-Book-2nd/dp/0137081332/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1299693203sr=8-1

Deployments I created a wiki page that completely automates an install from
start to finish for lucid:
https://www.frackingtubes.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_preseed.cfg_installs_off_PXE_Boot
The book also talks about this.

automated backup and recovery is also explained allot in the book.

I don't specifically use Nagios but buying a book specifically on it
will defiantly give you more than you ever wanted to know:
http://www.amazon.com/Nagios-Network-Monitoring-Wolfgang-Barth/dp/1593270704

I use http://zabbix.org but I'm probably in the minority here. I hear allot
of people use Nagios. Zabbix does everything I need for monitoring.

For configuration management allot of people are using puppet
chef. Neither of which I have used but are on my list to learn.

If you know specifically at what book you want to buy I would just ask on
this email thread. I have spent a small fortune on tech books over the
years.

You seem to need sysadmin stuff. That's not in any of the Ubuntu books I
know (or have written, authored a couple myself). What you need is Pro
Linux System Administration, written by James Turnbull and others, ISBN
978-1-4302-1912-5
