Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau with a clean installed lucid on a hp dx 6050 desktop computer i get a somehow shifted screen: with a resolution of 1024x768 the left part of the display area is missing and gets displayed at the right corner. also the bottom parts is missing, but this doesn't get displayed at the top. instead the first pixel from the top seem to be repeated ~30times. (see photo). making screenshots doesn't show this behaviour. anyway this doesn't seem to be related to a misconfigured monitor because the mouse has it's active point in the vertical middle and horizontal left of the mouse-icon. when running xrandx the screen gets blanked for a short time. this computer contains a: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX - nForce GPU] (rev a3) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.15+git20100219+9b4118d-0ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue May 4 17:05:17 2010 DkmsStatus: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory GdmLog1: Error: command ['gksu', '-D', 'Apport', '--', 'cat', '/var/log/gdm/:0.log.1'] failed with exit code 1: cat: /var/log/gdm/:0.log.1: No such file or directory GdmLog2: Error: command ['gksu', '-D', 'Apport', '--', 'cat', '/var/log/gdm/:0.log.2'] failed with exit code 1: cat: /var/log/gdm/:0.log.2: No such file or directory InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100427.1) Lsusb: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 15d9:0a33 Dexon Mouse Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP dx6050 uT ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root=/dev/mapper/lucid-root ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=de_DE.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau dmi.bios.date: 10/31/2003 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: 786A5 v2.04 dmi.board.name: 0830h dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.chassis.asset.tag: HUB4430KBW dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvr786A5v2.04:bd10/31/2003:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPdx6050uT:pvr:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn0830h:rvr:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct3:cvr: dmi.product.name: HP dx6050 uT dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-21-generic ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- display area shifted, mouse also affected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575227 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447458] Re: [i945GM] X server segfault in xrandr, apport didn't trap it
This bug report has been inactive for quite some time and in the meantime Ubuntu has moved along. I hope the reported problem has been resolved in the current version of Ubuntu. If it has not and there are people willing to follow up with information collecting and testing, it is best to file a new bug report with the latest Ubuntu development version (10.04 still works, but soon 10.10 is better), using the ubuntu- bug command if possible. Feel free to mention the bug number of this bug. We are sorry that we are not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. Occasionally we have to purge old bug reports where no progress has been made, whether it is due to reporter not being able to respond or lack of manpower on the Ubuntu side, in order to keep our list of active bugs current. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.
