As already mentioned, you probably configure it once in the beginning and then rarely enter the web gui. If someone wants to document instructions how to upgrade it manually, is that something that can be put on the Community Squeeze web site or do you prefer that it's placed on a third party site ? Just a thought, if you want to avoid people to use CS name for their own images you should probably make sure that's clearly specified in the license. If it's defined in the license that changes can't be redistributed as custom images under CS name, people tend to avoid it because they don't want to risk legal action. It also makes it a lot clearer what you are allowed and not allowed to do as a third party. The same also applies to the usage of the repository. I'm guessing your reasoning in both cases is that you want to avoid the risk that people using third party images ask you for support ? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
I just downloaded the latest player and I'm running it on one of the older original RPis. I have connected the HDMI output to my receiver which can accept up to 24-bit/192kHz. I've enabled the HDMI audio output, rebooted, and changed the Squeezelite Output settings so they are -o sysdefault:CARD=ALSA (using the picoreplayer menu). I can play standard 16-bit/44.1kHz files now but any high bit rate files do not play, in fact with the web access the files plays but nothing is heard. I've read that others are able to output 24-bit/96kHz files without a problem so what might I be doing wrong? If other people want to make it an issue, they can go complain elsewhere or write their own. Bigger picture People are now using the CSOS F19 image in ways I never envisaged. People who have absolutely zero interest in running a Wandboard as a music player. People who are quite happy to piggy-back on the work of others without giving anything back, other than grief. People who are asking for functionality to be added that has nothing at all to do with a music player (That would be of zero benefit to those of us that do want to use it as a music player.) When told that I'm not going to do that, I then get asked to provide a java/tomcat/struts tutorial, if I expect them to do it themselves I lost the plot yesterday, and was rather rude to someone. I'm expecting that person to try and cause trouble for me. (Quite how, I'm not sure, but that's what they told me they are going to do! LOL) We'll see what happens. If someone dares to take the CSOS image, pre-packages the Oracle JVM and supplies that with it, that is for them to deal with any potential consequences, not me. They have been warned that a), they had better remove the CS name from everything to do with that image and that b), *their* image had better not be pointing at our repo for updates. Hi, I'm new in this forum and tried to read a lot, but maybe I missed it and my questions have already been answered. I'm running LSM on my QNAP and use a Raspberry Pi with Squeezelight. Actually with the onboard audio, but I already ordered a HiFiBerry. The Pi is running headless and I control it with the iphone. I was wondering whether it would be possible to use a cheap LCD with composite video as a display for Squeezelight with Jivelight, just to shown e.g. "now playing". If I never hear another word about the web-gui, that would be a good thing. The reason we don't ship a "high performance" JVM with CSOS, is that I can't, not that I don't know better. That I personally as an individual, accept the Oracle Binary Code License and don't use the OpenJDK Zoom JVM, yes, might seem a little two-faced, do as I say, rather than do as I do, but anyone can download and use it, by creating an Oracle account and accepting the BCL agreement. Java is interpreted. Yes, it is all about the JIT. Java isn't alone there. (Triode, not directed at you, but it's relevant...) jivelite runs acceptably under LuaJIT. If one was to try running that without a JIT, my expectation is that it would be orders of magnitude slower. The problem here, if there is one, on not providing the best out-of-the-box experience, is that LuaJIT is open source, the Oracle JIT is "free", as in free to use if you accept the binary license, but it is not open source, or freely re-distributable. If anyone wants to suggest I am guilty of anything, it's not that I want to hold back, that there is some dastardly plan to provide a pay-ware version of CSOS at some point in the future, and have reasons to differentiate that from a "free" version... One, if I wasn't already working on stuff that I consider to be of greater importance, I'd document how to switch out the OpenJDK. (It's no secret. For anyone who doesn't need hand-holding with the exact commands to type, extract the tar file and set JAVA_HOME in "/etc/sysconfig/tomcat".) Two, if I am guilty of anything, it's that my initial testing of a tomcat based version of the web-gui was done on what I thought to be comparable hardware, an Atom processor. Roughly comparable in terms of hardware horse-power, but not comparable in terms of the optimisation provided by the system JVM. That there is a whole bunch of tomcat logging that could be disabled, yes, two-faced again, I do disable it for my own use, but from a distribution perspective, to be able to provide any support, I need to be able to say to someone with a problem, what does the log file(s) say? If there isn't anything in a blank log file, how do I provide support? This isn't a simple case of adding "-l debug" on the cmd line and telling someone to restart a binary. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS F19 Release 1
Just to add to what Pascal has said :- The currently available option (Wandboard with CSOS) can act as a Touch replacement but you will need either an external USB Sound Interface or HDMI to SPDIF Adaptor to obtain coaxial 192/24 support. If you want a visual display then a HDMI TV or monitor offers a very similar (but larger - up to the screen size) replication of the Touch display (via the incorporated Jivelite software). Hand held IR remote control can also be had by using a readily available FLIRC adaptor. The future Community Squeeze Player (CSP), which we hope is to be available in the coming months, will incorporate a high quality DAC and SPDIF output via BNC which will do 192/24 (and possibly higher), along with all currently available functions. I've already retired my Touch and replaced it (and my old music server) with the Wandboard / UBS DAC and am very happy with it. Obviously DBD::SQLite seems to make the trouble. So I tried to install that from cpan. Still the same issue. Did anyone succeed with this on FreeBSD 9.1 before? madsinzurich's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=62305 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100710 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Michael, I built SDL from scratch as well, but I configured it with ./configure --disable-video-x11, which along with commenting out line 94 of ./SDL-1.2.15/src/video/quartz/SDL_QuartzVideo.h, as hinted already in this thread Thanks, I'll give that a try! -- Michael ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
@steen what I was asking about was not the backup, but the restore. I saved all my settings in 1.08 and could easily restore them in 1.08 by copying the mydata.tgz file in. This did not work on 1.10 since the mydata.tgz was not visible on a Windows computer. I managed to get it working on a Linux Computer, but when I restored my settings nothing worked anymore. The setttings appeared correct in the SSH view, but players did not start and some menu options started giving me errors. For now I simply started from scratch and reentered all my settings by hand. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS F19 Release 1
Thanks everyone for this great project. Just some questions to verify. This project can be used as a great Touch replacement eventually right (being a client for LMS and able to handle at least up to 24/192 PCM via coax, like the Touch with EDO)? Am I correct that the SPDIF coax output is/will be BNC and not RCA? Thanks again! Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Once I correct the bug, it worked fine, my DAC requires it for upsampling SACD flacs, I've been using a custom build of squeezelite I built a few months back (until I upgraded), and your version appears to work fine. No idea about bash, I'd have to have a look, you could always rewrite it in ncurses which might be nicer to use. But a web interface will be handy, make sure you stick in support for viewing/enabling debugging info from squeezelite/dmesg/syslog etc. as that'd be very helpful for people with issues. sbp wrote: > Thanks will be corrected - Have you tried using upsample, and what is > your experience with that on the raspnberry, is it OK? > > Yes, I'm aware of this, but I simply don't know how to make the screen > update in order to show the new content of the config.cfg file using a > bash script. Cheers for all the hard work..! Yes, I'm aware of this, but I simply don't know how to make the screen update in order to show the new content of the config.cfg file using a bash script. This has been changed in the new web-based menu-GUI. However, if you know, then please inform me, and it can be included in the bash script.
