[ovirt-users] Ip spoofing
Hi, I have setup Ovirt with glusterfs...I have some concern about the network part 1. Is there any way to restrict the Guest VM...so that it can be assign with single ip address...and in anyhow the user can not manipulate the IP address from inside the VM (that means user can not change the ip address inside the VM). Thanks, Punit ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users
Re: [ovirt-users] can't attach storage domain to data center
Hi, You can also use the below method on every gluster node :- For Group-virt (optimize for virt store) 1. Create the file name /var/lib/glusterd/groups/virt 2. And paste all the contents from this location to this file :- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gluster/glusterfs/master/extras/group-virt.example 3. service glusterd restart 4. service vdsmd restart -- quick-read=off read-ahead=off io-cache=off stat-prefetch=off eager-lock=enable remote-dio=enable quorum-type=auto server-quorum-type=server -- Thanks, Punit Dambiwal On Mon, Jun 23, 2014 at 4:35 PM, Itamar Heim ih...@redhat.com wrote: On 06/22/2014 06:38 PM, Tiemen Ruiten wrote: On 06/21/14 16:57, Tiemen Ruiten wrote: On 06/21/14 16:37, Tiemen Ruiten wrote: Hello, I've been struggling to set up an Ovirt cluster and am now bumping into this problem: When I try to create a new (Gluster) storage domain, it fails to attach to the data center. Re: [ovirt-users] Ip spoofing
Hi Den, Thanks for the updates...but still the user can spoof the another ip address by manually edit the ifcfg-eth0:0 file Like if i assign the 10.0.0.5 ip address to one VM through cloud-int...once the VM bootup user can login to VM and create another virtual ethernet device and add another ip address 10.0.0.6 to this VM I want in anyhow the user can not spoof the ip addresseither they can edit but the new ip address can not boot up(should not active)... I am afraid that oVirt does not let you do that out-of-the-box. By default, the vdsm-no-mac-spoofing filter is applied to vNICs, which indeed allows IP spoofing. This behavior can be changed by writing a vdsm hook that changes the default filterref to filterref filter='clean-traffic' parameter name='CTRL_IP_LEARNING' value='dhcp'/ /filterref If your VM is assigned with its address not via dhcp, life is more complicated, since the hook needs to have access to this address before boot. I would love to assist you in writing such a hook; please take the vmfex_dev hook as a reference. To read more about vdsm hooks, please see http://www.ovirt.org/Vdsm_Hooks . I've posted a hook like that to http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/29093/1 Maybe you can try it out, by placing http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/29093/1/vdsm_hooks/noipspoof/noipspoof.py on your /usr/libexec/vdsm/hooks/before_device_create on each of your hosts, and setting a custom property named noipspoof to a list of valid IP addresses. Please report if it does what it should. It would obviously be nicer if we integrate this with cloud-init, so that each VM would have its list of valid addresses defined once. Care to open an RFE? I don't know any hook that does this, it should be relatively simple, though. Maybe someone else can assist, CC'ing Dan: Do you know of a hook that manipulates the emulated CPU model? Within the Vdsm code tree, only faqemu does that (and it only drops, causing qemu to do its best). You can build on top of faqemu to set to your favorite guest cpu. However, I think that Engine was once capable of setting a specific cpuType - is it still possible without hacking its DB, Arik? I'm not sure what do you actually mean hide what from whom? the guest sees particular CPU, there's nothing like Virtual xyz, it either sees flags matching e.g. Nehalem or not. You can select different CPU at the cluster level if you wish, and that's what the guest will see, regardless what your host has faqemu is changing the configured CPU type to fully emulated CPU…I don't think you meant that... I guess he refers to the cpu_model mentioned here: http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/config-reference/content/list-of-compute-config-options.html yes, that's what we have at cluster level and there is an RFE for per-VM level But I still do not see the benefit of faking a certain cpu model. there is no faking, it is always real for the guest. so yes, you can make it look(and actually perform) less capable so you can migrate across heterogenous hosts; or make it less capable just if you wish so, but that's it. Your gluster storage is still fine, but ovirt can’t talk to it because 10.10.10.2 isn’t there. If the SPM goes down, it the other hypervisor hosts will elect a new one (under control of the ovirt engine). Same scenarios if storage compute are on the same server, you still need a vip address for the storage portion to serve as the mount point so it’s not dependent on any one server. -Darrell On Jul 3, 2014, at 1:14 AM, Punit Dambiwal hypu...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, I have some HA related concern about glusterfs with Ovirt...let say i have 4 storage node with gluster bricks as below :- 1. 10.10.10.1 to 10.10.10.4 with 2 bricks each and i have distributed replicated architecture... 2. The node always sees the VM's NIC by it's ovirt MAC, even if user changes it from inside VM. Now the solution was ebtables (bridge tables). There are 2 possibilities to create such signatures: 1, Expose SignString via rest api, or this means its a gap we need to close in any case to allow moving the portals to work over the REST API? 2, implement this signing mechanism from scratch (for that the signing machine would have to posses private key for signing ovirt-websocket-proxy tickets, which I don't like). I failed to interpret 'mount point' here. If you are talking about 'gluster' volume server , the VM behaviour depends on the gluster configuration which indirectly depend on the quorum configuration and volume configuration. If there is an error from underlying storage ( here gluster volume) VM can pause , however latest versions of ovirt support auto resume. If you are using local data center the VM migration can't happen. You have to configure a storage domain which can be accessed from your Ovirt Cluster Hosts . Hi Sven, It's Ok...but still the drawback is if i have 100GB template and use clone instead of thinnow if i want to create 10 VM with this template...it will copy 1TB data...and the provisioning will take long time ?? Is there any other work around to make this copy partial or the ovirt just copy the actual used data at the time VM deployment instead of the whole virtual disk Otherwise it's very hard to use Ovirt as public cloud...because if every time it copy the whole template...and simultaneous more then 10 process running for the VM deployment all the process will stuck.. Another way i got is create the VM with 1GB virtual template and expand the disk size after deployment...but the problem here is disk will expand...but it will not done any changes in the existing partition table..that means after expand disk you need to manual login in to server and make the changes with the help of fdisk and lvm commands... But if I restore the VM with First Snapshot...VM will restore successfully but it destroy the other 2 snapshosts ( Second S napshot Third S napshot )..that means both the other snapshots will be disappear Please let me know is this the limitation of Ovirt or it's any setting problem... this is how snapshots works, third is based on second which based on first, each snapshot contains only the diff from its base, so if you want to go and change the base, all snapshots that based on it are not valid anymore. It is possible to move a Linux system between disks while it's running. The limitation is that you cannot alter *partitions* on a disk that has *partitions* in use. To do this your root filesystem must be on an LVM, this often means that you have to have a separate boot filesystem (this is not, however, essential, it just makes things easier) At Thursday, 28-08-2014 on 16:49 Shahar Havivi wrote: On 28.08.14 11:05, Punit Dambiwal wrote: Hi All, Please help me to solve this problem...or suggest me any workaround ?? With hostusb some more host-dev virtualization could be added. Top of my list is: - SR-IOV - NPV - VFIO These things could be handled on cluster level - hypervisors need to have the same hardware configuration anyway. Also, I think its time to add official support for OpenVswitch? Are you looking for a specific functionality that is available via OpenVswitch (=OVS)? also we have the Neutron integration where we use OVS. I think its sufficient to say OVS is a 'real' modern switch while plain ol' linux bridge is not (so much any more). Of curse, maybe implementing other things like macvtap and / or SR-IOV achieves just the same thing (at least for me, as I then mange vlans/trunks and QoS, Spanning Tree ect. on my switches). I know you can point on OpenStack integration because you get those features for 'free' (see Ceph). But what about users like me who do not wish / can / should implement the whole OpenStack but rather want to run 'plain' oVirt? that's why we added in 3.5 a standalone, pre-configured, neutron virtual appliance so you won't need all of openstack? Witch is certainly nice to have. But this is not the point. IMHO storage and networking are core functions for a virtualization platform. And such a platform will need to reflect the the progress made in general and in particular by the hypervisor monitor (libvirt). I am no developer and can hardly estimate the coding effort and do not want you to redo already working things. But at least in case of Ceph there is the API from libvirt, this is true for all the other things I mentioned, in my naive view they are all variations of the hostusb hook. Certainly I can deploy OVS myself and manage it from CLI, witch is what I do now. Could you share how you set it up, i.e., how you map networks to ovs and everything that you configure? Depending on the size, making a vdsm configurator for it would not be that difficult (and the fine tunning could come with hooks). Hello Antoni, I see this was very misleading, sorry. With the phrase 'witch is what I do now' I literally meant 'right now' witch is not (yet) oVirt/vdsm but plain libvirt / virsh / virt-manager. Since libvirt supports OVS directly; I just use virtualport type='openvswitch'/ in my network xml; then define VLANs and QoS with ovs-vsctl cli. So I am used to OVS management and the flexibility it offers. I was also trying to mangle things in oVirt - but I could not get OVS to work with oVirt managed bridges and gave up (since I cannot use such 'hacks' in production environments, company and my own policy). Thanks! PS: I hope I made myself clear in my last mails, OVS is not the 'killer' feature witch decides whatever I deploy oVirt or not. Linux bridge and libvirt network QoS are well tested. But I will surely miss some things later on I cannot do directly. What I do with it and what I use it currently for - please refer to my mail to Livnat. But in the end, I would very much like to do this via one integrated GUI, this is why I deploy oVirt (witch I see as a open source counterpart to EXi. Esp. the concept of one engine for management - but not critical for running my VMs.) Please allow me a 'heretic' question, will oVirt make itself obsoleted in the future because all of the core functionality is moved to an external provider? Is it better for my use case (small/medium business and not in the telco sector) to deploy OpenStack in the first place and not to use oVirt at all? ATM OpenStack seems to me like the literal sledgehammer to crack a nut. Thanks, http://www.dict.cc/englisch-deutsch/to+take+a+sledgehammer+to+crack+a+nut.html I think this might not be a desirable way to add / modernize features as it creates a huge overhead (at least in my use case, medium business. I did this once for Glance 'just' to get a way to more easily handle import / export of image files, now I need to implement Neutron 'just' to get OVS?). Don't get me wrong - OpenStack integration is a wonderful thing witch leaves room for expansion - later on.
